what i thought was amusing was WRAL running a whole segment on people that have been wrongly convicted in the news the night of the conviction[Edited on May 6, 2011 at 9:58 AM. Reason : i still don't understand the judge's reaction to the verdict either]
5/6/2011 9:58:12 AM
^^^^^ Wow, if that is actually true and not just someone begging for attention (which I don't see as the case since it's in the anonymous confessions thread), that is really really bad. What's worse is the CPD and Town of Cary are putting out these public statement about how great of a job the CPD did. As a Cary resident I question if I can even trust the cops in my town anymore. Corruption, ineptitude and cover-ups of this magnitude are things you see in movies in places like NYC, not in little ol sweet Cary.^^^^ I've been itching to do the same thing. My daughter has a good friend at school whose mom is a lawyer at the AG's office. I'm sure she has some good scoop on this, I'd like to hear a professional's opinion on the matter. Based on what you said, it sounds like the prosecution convinced Gessner that they had a strong case to present so he was lenient with them as far as trying to give them a fair chance to present damning evidence. I wonder if in hind sight he really regrets some of his I'll allow it's and suppression of testimony, because he just played a major role in costing BC at least 2-3 years of his life.
5/6/2011 10:06:57 AM
Yeah, might as well go ahead and send this one to the Innocence Commission, although I don't know if they do anything with reasonable doubt or only work with proven innocence. Gessner's reaction is confusing but perhaps it may stem from the fact the google map "evidence" was the most damning at the end and he was responsible from preventing the defense expert from refuting it. He bent to the will of the jury to speed up the trial, except he sped up one of the most important aspects of the defense and now someones is convicted of first degree murder. Maybe he was having second thoughts on allowing everything.

5/6/2011 10:09:24 AM
uh yeah...
5/6/2011 10:10:59 AM
I wouldnt care if I lost my job, got blackballed, disbarred, whatever. Something like that would make it impossible for me to sleep at night.
5/6/2011 10:13:48 AM
Yeah how do we get things sent to the Innocence Commission?[Edited on May 6, 2011 at 10:16 AM. Reason : edit]
5/6/2011 10:15:59 AM
It was said that several jury members were crying as the verdict was read. Why?1) they thought not guilty but were swayed in deliberations? 2)they got emotionally wrapped up on NC side (which would show they based verdict on the emotions of it).3)^same but bc side which makes me think ^^ was the case. Also, when has a judge ever done that while reading the verdict.
5/6/2011 10:19:55 AM
Agreed. If I has any kind of info or was in any way remotely close enough to this case to provide the slightest shred of proof that this trial was mishandled, I would get it to the right people at all cost. I was and still am very bothered by the thought of BC sitting in that jail cell for the next 2+ years waiting on an appeal when this trial presented plenty of opportunity to actually prove his guilt or innocence. Instead you have a handful of unethical lawyers covering up for inept police at the expense of this guy's life. Having two young daughters of my own, I can't come close to imagining how painful and heartbreaking it would be to be stuck in prison without a chance to ever see them. I hope he's exonerated in the appeal and manages to sue the TOC and CPD to the tune of millions.
5/6/2011 10:25:56 AM
It's already been said, but I feel the same way: whoever that was saying that in the anon confessions thread needs to grow a pair and do the right thing, EVEN IF it means losing your job and/or something worse.I'd hate to have something like that weighing on my conscience....
5/6/2011 10:57:24 AM
I wonder if he is exonerated will he'll be able to get is kids back? as of now NC Twin sis has custody of both of them and they are in Canada.
5/6/2011 11:00:44 AM
Are both of the kids his or do we know?

5/6/2011 1:19:02 PM
what we need is some extra common sense to hand out to these dumbass jurors. Should've been a mistrial the moment the jurors were all "can you hurry plz, kkthxbbye".

I officially care about this thread. Would be awesome if TWW got this dude out of prison 4 lifeI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
5/6/2011 1:25:22 PM
I was hoping that note meant "we listened to the prosecution ramble incoherently for 3 weeks and after a week or so of the defense we realize this trial is a joke, you've wasted all our time. We don't think he did it. We are ready to vote not guilty so we can get our lives back"
5/6/2011 1:26:29 PM
wasn't it well over 3 weeks for the prosecution?
5/6/2011 1:35:08 PM
they read the note while the court was at ease, so doesn't that mean its not in the record? can they use stuff for an appeal thats not in the record? lawyer input plz
5/6/2011 1:41:45 PM
I just could not sleep well last night, I was so upset. But I just want to say, every time someone in this thread says, it's all due to the women on the jury, or we never should have gave them the vote, etc it kinda pisses me off. Like I know it's true that women on a jury can be like that but I just wanted to say that I'm not. I'm also pretty damn stubborn so if I know there is reasonable doubt, there is no one in this world who could make me change my vote. I just wouldn't budge.
5/6/2011 1:44:51 PM
tww women are not typical women, which is why they are on tww.

Anyone see mention of Judge Gessner saying "Cooper got his shit" or something to that effect while on the phone when he thought his microphone was off? I read it on another message board but can't find any confirmations in the news/blogs/etc.^ racist.]

for the confessor:
5/6/2011 1:55:55 PM
If the jury came back with a not guilty verdict, this could never be made into a Lifetime special. I think the jury had to pick their battles, here.

yo qtmnfred, tell us who the confessor is
