Senez, what kind of camera do you use? That lighthouse looks super sharp... what lense did you have on?d7, awesome on the lens! I think that's the next kind I want!

I got ambrosia1231 that Tokina 11-16 lens before our trip; she's loved having it. She's gotten quite a few shots she's said she's wanted to get, but never could before. Hopefully she'll go through the pictures and put some up

I'm using the rebel XTi and I think the 17-85 in that shot. I've never been all that pleased with that particular lens, though.

Shot a borrowed IR-converted 30D the other day at the beach as well...Not quite what I was expecting, but we didn't exactly pick the best time to use it. And I'm not quite familiar with the post-processing of IR stuff to get it quite right.

love the theatre with the tiles on the floor. very nice.
8/11/2009 7:47:12 PM
Am I the only person who wants to go salvage the hardwoods out of that theater? They would look sweet in my house.

Re-processed one of the IR images and got closer to what I think is the "point" of IR photos. I guess, I have no idea. I don't plan to do too much IR anyway.
8/13/2009 8:43:49 AM
that looks a lot closer to the IR images i've seen. nice shot.

i'm going to guess just to see how close i am. looks wide, so i'm going to guess Ronny used his 11-16 at 11mm. so he probably used f/2.8 with 1600 ISO judging by the grain. i have no clue as to shutter speed, but i'll guess about 1/40th or 1/50th of a second.

oh dag! i was pretty close. i didn't even think to check flickr. not too shabby though
8/14/2009 8:10:01 PM
haha Pimpin, when I said that I meant I wasn't planning on going to the rides and take motion shots, so no tripod. Goober.I wish I had 1600 iso!
8/14/2009 8:48:24 PM
Yeah, Senez and d7 answered for me. It was dark as shit and that light in the driveway was the only one around. I just tried to expose for the lit skin, knowing everything else would be very dark.
8/15/2009 12:12:06 PM
I've got a 40 year old 50mm mf 1.4... I suck pretty bad at picking the appropriate shutter time and then even worse at figuring out where the focus field will be through the view finder that doesn't show ANY of the DOF which makes getting an in focus shot a complete pain in the ass with it... hence the obvious post processing...But I'm hoping the shot speaks more for itself and what I meant to say with it: "xbox 360 tragic flaw"I regularly regret getting a d40 any time I look at lenses...[Edited on August 15, 2009 at 1:59 PM. Reason : original... I have the raw... how can I get the original exposure of the red but raise all else?]
8/15/2009 1:54:11 PM
Is it covered? A red ring will ruin anyone's week. I offer my condolenses.
8/15/2009 5:09:02 PM
I purchased it in august 2006 so it's exactly 3 years old and they extended the red ring of death coverage to 3 years... I called them up and they said they'll cover it.Downside they only give you a shipping label, they don't send out the coffins anymore...what sucks is: I never play it any more, I came home and was going to do one forza 2 race and it came up as the red ring of death...

Corey Rich is one of my favorite photographers--mostly because he gets to take pictures of bad-ass rock climbers doing bad-ass things. Basically my dream job. This Nikon video (taken mostly with the d90) is pretty cool:http://nikon.net/Learn-And-Explore/Photography-Tips/fx50m2eb/1/Aerial-Ballet.html#tab=1I haven't seen the video of the Canon 500d yet, curious how it compares. Anyway, I guess the point of all this was to ask the crowd here what photographers they really dig, who inspires them.BTW, what the climber Caldwell is climbing in these videos is insane. As a climber who can get up a 5.12 here and there the climb Caldwell is putting together doesn't seem humanly possible.[Edited on August 16, 2009 at 1:15 AM. Reason : x]

Yeah, Corey Rich is really badass. I like his stuff and want his job even though I'm afraid of heights.

Just got back from covering AMA superbike at VIR and BMX nationals. I'll have to post up some pics when I don't feel like a melted Jell-O version of the wacky waving inflatable tube man... But here's a funny pic of me out working the track at VIR today.
