Isn't not okay, it's also not Sidney Lowe's fault. Off nights happen.

At one point I thought Sidney was going to jump out and grab the ball from Thompson because he wanted our guys to press and they didn't.

I think he should be fired for not doing it.

What is missed in all of this was that this was a terrible shooting night but this team fought back and didn't have a bunch of stupid turnovers. When you have shooters who are missing and they get wide open shots YOU KEEP SHOOTING. You can't try something else because the other team is collapsing into the lane to keep you from trying something else. State wasn't taking bad shots with the wrong people...

No one is missing that. You keep saying it and we all get it.

Different year, different shooters, same inability to make a shot.

It's not new or novel or different. It's exactly the same as it's been for the past god knows how many years across multiple coaches.

^Just stop. All your point is that you keep shooting wide open shots. We know this. Just because its there doesn't mean it works. Sometimes you need to do something else. Terrell Owens may be open 10 times in a row but if he doesn't catch any pass thrown his way it doesn't mean shit.

^^Oh boy Sidney already complaining about attendance. His team has finished bottom three in the ACC for three years and is just as bad if not worse this year and he talks about the fans? Come on....you need what little support you have Sid. Not a smart move.

In the tourney Hodge's frosh year I know we did... but maybe we saw them on TV?

** And really? Applauding the guys for a loss against Northwestern by double digits? Maybe we really should give them participation ribbons.

reread the article boozie. sid never complained. it sounds like the radio-guys asked him about attendance at the NW game, and he stated "[Fans] are missing out on a group of young men who are proud to be wearing that uniform, care about playing hard and pleasing their fans,". And then went on to praise the fans that were attending.

As usual, you're trying to stir something up that isn't there.

What do you do? If you aren't making outside shots there is no reason to guard the perimeter and you are left with a choked lane which is what we dealt with in the NW game.

Oh gosh, Engin Atsur wasn't on that team!!!1 My entire point is invalidated.

Fine, replace him with Levi Watkins.

It's going to make the transition to Lowe look even dumber if all our players do now is exactly what our players did then (albeit our old players being a ton more successful at it).

I actually agree with your response in that we still just don't have the overwhelming talent. Find me another team that shoots 11% from the 3pt line and wins a game against a similar opponent. It was a bad shooting night these nights happen I am just not that worried about it. I wouldn't expect to win that game on an off night which that obviously was.

Haven't really been on Sid's case but if he starts complaining he is going to lose support.

^^So you are ok with a loss to Northwestern? This is a team we pummeled even in Herb's days.

^noone is ok with where we are at right now, but if you have any expectations for this season whatsoever, you are a dumbass.

We will have less talent than most teams we play against, we will lose a shitton of games, we may win a couple that we shouldn't because this team at least seems to hussle, and maybe, just maybe we might win enough to get us in the NIT. A win against Northwestern this year would have been gravy.

^ Exactly right.
^^ We wouldn't have pummeled this team in herb's day if we had had a bad shooting night (see st johns 04-05).
So far this team is bringing consistent intensity and heart which is more than can be said for the past two years. I am content with that and to wait and see what more talent will bring. Also I bet Wood will prove a lot of you haters wrong this year.

i think people tend to forget that the two best players from that 12-13th ranked recruiting class we had are either not here or have been hurt.

Take away the big 3 scoring + our two best recruits not playing and voila, we are what we thought we were. although I really like what ive seen from javi. need more than javi and smiff to do something though to win

Honestly, I dont know why anyone would expect this team to be undefeated at this point

It doesn't matter who the loss was to - Akron, Auburn, NW - it was bound to happen. If you want to whine about the team having 1 legitimate ACC starter on it, well, you had all summer to do that. Obviously what we should do is fire Lowe today so that in 2 years we'll have none

There is nobody to blame but the head coach for having one good player in year 4.....obviously I knew before the season we would suck but the excuses for Lowe are not really valid.

Lots of misunderstanding about how recruiting works ITT.

The facts:
1) Lowe came in from an NBA team. Meaning he didn't already have recruits he was talking up (think about how Calipari just transformed Kentucky in one year with recruits he'd been talking to for years with Memphis).
2) Recruiting for many of the top players starts when they're very young (some before they're even in high school). Its hard to come in several years after someone else has been talking the kid up and win him over. Thats what makes getting Hickson that much more amazing.
3) He's bringing in at least 3 top 25ish guys next year. You're going to bitch now b/c his only talented players are freshmen?!

^Oh please there are numerous coaches that have started out recruiting a lot better than Lowe.

Bruce Pearl came out of nowhere too from Wisconsin-Milwaukee and has consistently landed top 25 classes. The NBA connection helps Lowe's recruiting more than it hurts. I don't really see how you could argue this when in Lowe's first full recruiting class he landed a 5* McDs AA and 4* Tracy Smith and Javi Gonzalez.

And if these freshmen are so "talented" how come only one is starting and he has done very little? Yes I know Howell has been hurt but these guys have a long way to go before you call them very talented.

bruce pearl is not a good example dude. coming from another school is not the same as coming into the college game with no recruiting contacts at all. just because you come from a small school doesn't mean that you haven't already been at least scouting some of the top players because there's always a chance of them not being able to qualify academically to get in to some of the larger schools that are recruiting them.

it takes about 3-4 years to get close to the same level as your competition in recruiting if you have never done it at all (especially with the elite talent), some kids are contacted as early as their freshman year in high school and there's a few kids that even start getting looks as early as middle school. keeping larry harris on staff was the smartest thing he did early on because it at least gave him someone that's been recruiting some of these kids he might want to get. lowes first recruiting class was an absolute miracle considering he hadn't been able to recruit kids like hickson and smith for the same amount of time as his competition had. i'm very impressed with what he's been able to do in such a short amount of time.

We should hire some guy from Scout.com to be our coach since recruiting is what will win games for us. It's obviously not coaching that wins games, or else you people would be more concerned about having a shitty fucking coach who can't coach out of a paper bag against anyone except the Big South for 4 years now than nabbing some BIG TYMER P T PERS BAYBEE.

I swear, I'm glad I don't read recruiting sites or I'd base my opinions on projections and not results.

Nope sure haven't. The day he was hired I said it was a bad choice.

Has nothing to do with Herb.....all to do with Sidney was and still isn't the right choice.

Although I repeatedly said I will give him next year to see what he does with great talent.

as one of the haters:

good win today.

marquette isnt great, but FSU just barely beat them as well so good sign that we could get a win.

wasnt able to watch the game, so people can correct me or not on the box score analysis.

farnold playing means javi might actually get breaks. my biggest worry is that he and tracy will be playing 40 min's a game during acc season. unfortunately, looks like we still have no way to give tracy a breather.

javi really seems to be showing improved shooting, among other things, over last year.

was davis's play as good as his stat line?

how was our D today, did we shut them down or did they just make mistakes/miss shots?

hmm, well havent seen farnold play yet(this year), but i think i would have more confidence in almost anyone running the pt over mays, so i'm glad we had that option today when javi got hurt.

we shut them down. davis play was better than his stat line but him and smith are the only two players on our team that can rebound. wood is garbage and howell needs more playing time (always comes in, turns it over dribbling 30 ft from the bakset and goes out)

mays is also garbage. horner is shy and degand and javi can get to the basket at will. cj is standard.

it's too early to say wood is garbage. mays is definitely getting there though, as he hasn't shown any real improvement over last season. i know it won't happen, but if we could play every half the way we played the 2nd half today we would be a strong team with a definite ncaa bid.

we're getting there though. i love seeing this kind of second half improvement. i just hope in the future the first half won't be quite so bad.

Where you completely fail in your entire philosophy of NCSU Basketball is that you think we had a choice. Sidney is our coach because nobody else would take the job.
