Anyone here run one of the .40 cal Glocks with a 9mm conversion barrel? I've got a Lone Wolf 40-9 barrel in a G23 that consistently pulls high right. Before you accuse me of shot anticipation, I'm dead nuts on with the stock barrel in place. Of course, I'm still quite human and only an average shot so I need to run some tests off a bench at some point to eliminate me, but the variable is pretty significant and the fact that I'm going high and right with a lighter caliber seems to defy the implication that my anticipation is causing the error.Thoughts?

nothing wrong with 7mm-08why not spend a little extra and get a quality bolt gun? go cheap and you'll soon forget how much money you saved, but you'll be reminded of the low quality every time you use it. at least that's how it goes for me. cheap guns almost always let me down.i'm not saying good rifles always break the bank or that cheap rifles are always junk, but $500-700 will buy you a rifle that will fill your freezer for the rest of your life and you'll be proud to pass it on to your posterity.[Edited on January 29, 2012 at 11:07 PM. ^^ Well, the "cheap" part was kind of a bonus. I'd like a simple break-action single-shot to hunt deer with, not to mention that by nature they are fairly compact and light. I figure it would be plenty accurate for hunting use (1-1.5 MOA, I'd guess?). They really do look crappy, though, and you're right, for not much more money you can get a pretty good bolt gun. Also, I am going out on a limb and guessing that the Handi-Rifle's trigger totally sucks, and by the time you had it worked to be as good as a stock Remington or Savage trigger, you could have just bought the Remington or Savage.

Went and shot pistols this weekend to figure out my first pistol purchase.I shoot sporting clays with my shotgun collection but never had a pistol before. After shooting over 10 guns I think the front runner is a kimber 45.However, I can't decide on barrel length as they only had the 5.25" for rent.Primary Planned Use - Home Defense and Range ShootingSecondary if it limited impact to above - CCThe shotgun is the current home defense mechanism but with a child on the way my wife doesn't want it loaded. My idea of compromise is a loaded pistol in a quick release safe by my bed.Any thoughts and advice for all the above would be appreciated.
1/30/2012 10:25:02 PM
i'd put a shotgun out of reach of the kid. i subscribe to the idea that the only purpose of a handgun is to get you to your long gun.
1/30/2012 10:28:38 PM
I'm a big fan of the Ruger Model 1, but being left handed makes me biased towards single shot actions over bolt guns.
1/30/2012 11:10:29 PM
^^^ I shoot a nice 1911 myself, but if I were buying strictly for self-defense, I would buy a SIG. If I didn't care about concealing it, I would specifically go for a P226 model. I had one before and sold it to buy my 1911.The 1911 is a kickass range run, especially if you have match components and a well-gunsmithed trigger (1911 trigger is the best in the business). However, a SIG is a whole lot more idiot proof, super reliable, and holds twice as many rounds.^ Yeah, the #1 is sweet, but holy shit they're expensive. For that price, I'd be looking at something else...maybe a Weatherby or something cool like that.

^^^^you can get a wall mount with lock for a shotgun. Mossberg sells one. I like handguns in keypad lock boxes.

^^^ hey Hiro, how do you like the Glock 27? looking at picking one up in the next few weeks. I carry a lcp now but looking for something with some more stopping power and was debating between a G27 and XDm40 compact
1/31/2012 10:33:14 PM
G27 is a little snappy, but still controlable. It is much easier to shoot, IMO, than a pocket pistol as they have real sights and a more proper grip. I strongly prefer the Glock to XD. I have shot them, and just don't care for them compared to the Glock. One major turn off for me is the grip safety, and the fact that the mag won't eject if the grip safety isn't depresses. Another gun to look at in the category would be the M&P subcompact. Decent trigger, same size, and a better feeling grip (to most people).
2/1/2012 1:15:21 AM
hey amac884, how are the new S&W MnP AR15s? They any good? I was thinking about getting one to add to my AR collection.
2/1/2012 5:06:15 AM
^^ What he said Great little gun. I'm not the best shooter in the world, but I can shoot around a 4" group at 25 yards standing. Gun is a helluva lot more accurate than I will ever be. Ergonomics, availability of parts (both oem and aftermarket), and the simplicity of the gun make it a great little shooter. 180gr loads aren't as snappy as 155 and 165 gr. Having shot an LCP, you'll find this much easier to shoot in comparison. Overall firepower is awesome. Tough competition finding another pistol that can do what this can do when you look at the entire package.I'm glad to say my Glock 27 is my first pistol. Gen 3 > Gen 4 IMO. I do not care for the new stippling on the frame and other than ambi mag. release, nothing else has changed between the two generations AFAIK. Check them both out. Just know that a lot of people have complained about their hand hurting due to the new texture on the grip after prolonged shooting... After about 250-300 rounds, my hand was getting sore on a 4th gen G23 (compact .40). Shooting gloves help. YMMV.Oh. An XD 9mm was the first pistol I ever shot. I liked it a lot and considered getting one for myself. After shooting a Glock, well, I think you know the rest. [Edited on February 1, 2012 at 8:04 AM. Reason : .]

thats about what ive heard from most people, went to the range tonight after hours with a bunch of people from work and shot a G23 (their G27 broke, said it was the ejector but i don't think they take care of their guns), i liked the way it shot, basically a G27 with an extended magazine. There is a gun show in CLT feb 18th, if i can find a gen 3 ill most likely pick it up, along with a large purchase from Georgia arms

since ive started handloading 45-70 im starting to question the bigger is better mentality.usually watching videos like this just makes me angry.sure ive loaded some crazy stuff but its just a novelty; its not like im ever going to alaska or africa. i have to wear gloves shooting some of the stuff cause the checkering took part of my palm with it once.it can be more fun to download a cartridge to plink with; i understand some of the recent popularity in cowboy action shooting in this regard.i wont rule out reaming my chamber to 45-90 or 45-120 in the future though, just for added flexibility.(sure)

Seaking of compact pistols, any opinions on the Ruger LC9 9(mm that came out relatively recently? I'm inclined to go for 9mm so I can just have one variety of ammo, and some of what I've read seems to be generally favorable..but I think that is when its compared to other compact 9mm
2/3/2012 11:02:34 AM

is anyone interested in putting together a large order from http://www.hi-techammo.com ?if you buy four 8 lb. containers of powder (you can mix and match) then you only have to pay shipping, they cover the hazmat. they have WC844 pulldown, which is the same as H335, for $85 per 8 lb jug. they have some other pulldown powders too. they also have good prices on primers and they cover the hazmat if you buy 30k.
2/5/2012 8:05:27 PM
^^ I hear ya, I actually ordered the 30mm by mistake but figured I would just hold onto it instead of going through the return process. Mainly because it will give me a reason to build something to use it for Mount is as solid as they come though. I will probably use my other one when I finally get around to building an sbr.

my 22-250 wears a leupold with a 30mm tube, but i only got it because it's the "long range" version with the side focus, which is the shit. i can quickly bring a groundhog in focus whether he pops out close or waaaay out there.
