Replacing the lcd would be real simple. My iphone was out in the rain for a while and the only things that broke were the receiver and the light/proximity sensor. At the time I couldn't find anywhere that sold those parts or how to replace them so i was like fuck it and got a new one. However, when i took it apart to see if i could figure out whats wrong, the lcd came out real easy. The digitizer is a bit more complex, but its also doable.

http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Even if you don't buy your parts from here they have excellent repair guides video/pdf illustrated. Their guides cover more or less all apple devices and are free (guides)

^gotcha. Sorry. Yeah i think my proximity sensor was damaged from the water. It would just get stuck on the Apple boot screen. I didn't want to go through the trouble of not having a phone so i just paid the $199 for the replacement.

Here's a link to the LCD that I used:http://www.amazon.com/Apple-iPhone-Original-Display-Screen/dp/B001UJD5AM/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1and the tools (which I'm sure are pretty common) are found in the "Frequently Bought Together" section on that page.

w00tmultitasking is confirmed![Edited on April 8, 2010 at 1:17 PM. Reason : asdf]
4/8/2010 1:05:44 PM
the multitasking looks sweet. also, I saw in app-sms. If there's something like sbsettings, i won't need jailbreaking anymore...
4/8/2010 1:21:33 PM
yeah i doubt theyll go as far as sbsettings or anything but this will def help a lot[Edited on April 8, 2010 at 1:23 PM. Reason : and they did mention in-app messaging and home screen backgrounds]
4/8/2010 1:22:38 PM
So as near as I can tell, the multitasking is essentially the same thing Microsoft is doing with Windows 7 Mobile Phone Gold Standard Platinum Edition?
4/8/2010 1:24:30 PM
So what they've shown looks great for a phone, basically save states + APIs to allow apps to do certain tasks in the background. However, for the iPad, this still doesn't cut it.
4/8/2010 1:33:14 PM
^ It's probably going to have to for a while. With only 256MB RAM and no virtual memory, it's not like they can keep much open in the iPad. At least not until the next iteration comes along. OT: Does anyone besides me feel weird saying things like "only 256MB of RAM"?
4/8/2010 1:35:50 PM
the background audio is nice. The rest is pretty meh. Hubs are still a way better solution than multiple apps.[Edited on April 8, 2010 at 1:36 PM. Reason : n]
4/8/2010 1:36:33 PM
multiple exchange accounts now too
4/8/2010 1:40:25 PM
So far, it just looks like Apple jailbroke the iPhone. The functionality jailbreakers are used to are now official.
4/8/2010 1:41:08 PM
multiple exchange accounts is cool
4/8/2010 1:42:37 PM
^^basically. but it'll probably be done a lot better now. my jailbroken phone was always slow as balls
4/8/2010 1:43:18 PM
4/8/2010 1:43:57 PM
I'd be interested in what they have for mobile device management cause right now its kind of a joke.
4/8/2010 1:46:28 PM
Doesn't mean the sentiment is wrong however. You'll note that the backgrounds demoed in this have been carefully selected so as not to generate the problems Golovko was talking about.

I think his point was that Steve Jobs disagrees with you
4/8/2010 1:53:13 PM
steve jobs never said they were a great idea, only that you were now able to use them if you wanted
4/8/2010 1:54:07 PM
4/8/2010 1:55:02 PM
Oh, I left the rest of my point out in my search for the silly argument about home screen wallpapers ...I am a bit amazed that Steve can make such a big deal about so many of these common sense features, like WALLPAPER, and copy/paste, and background audio streaming ... as if it's something amazing, which their implementation is not. Also, do their presentations remind anyone of anything? The non-stop BIG-ASS numbers are annoying.
4/8/2010 1:56:06 PM
that's just their way of hinting to consumers that 50 million people are cooler than them[Edited on April 8, 2010 at 1:59 PM. Reason : aka go buy one now so you can be cool too]

Well im definitely gonna be waiting to see how winphone 7 turns out. If it sucks i'll probably buy an iphone 5g or whatever next year.
4/8/2010 2:10:15 PM
4/8/2010 2:10:22 PM
Yeah, but if they roll out an iPad with a camera/mic and a few other updates by then, they already have my money.
Hooray! New features we should've had since the very beginning! WOOOOOOOOO!
4/8/2010 2:12:35 PM
^^^ I think he was mostly dodging the question. The question that should have been asked was "How is Apple leaning on AT&T to fix their shitty ass network since they have the privilege of being the exclusive US iPhone provider?"Bad question = Non answer from Apple[Edited on April 8, 2010 at 2:13 PM.
