rain?
8/18/2015 8:05:20 AM
Already is in the northern parts of the area. Also, tropical setup in Atlantic right now that if something forms, might be to watch for here.

8/24/2015 3:59:13 PM
rain passed through town an hour ago. And the roads look like a complete disaster now (according to google map's traffic feature).
8/24/2015 4:08:57 PM
8/24/2015 9:57:26 PM
Traffic was terrible, as expected, while the heavy rain was coming down. Definitely didn't help that people were going 30-35 in the far left lane.

Charlotte is going through the longest sustained downpour not in a Hurricane I think i've ever witnessed. It has been absolutely pouring for a couple hours now...nonstop. And looking at the radar, i dont think its gonna stop for a while.
10/3/2015 2:46:55 AM
^ 5-10 inches. Thats how.

I'm an idiot so I'm leaving for Sunset in an hour. I'll make sure to post just before I decide to drive into flowing water...cause it's not that deep, and I can make it.

Columbia is basically underwater.14 inches of rain in 24 hours.
10/4/2015 4:44:06 PM
I made it down here. It's kinda crazy, but we got power and whatnot.
10/4/2015 6:11:04 PM
So is Charleston. RIP jbrick83. But seriously, Columbia has lost bridges, dams and buildings. I keep getting updates from my family who lives there. I had booked a hotel to visit my Grandmother in Columbia this weekend and canceled Friday morning. Thank goodness. My grandmother said she's never seen anything like it, and she has been around for some epic flooding like Floyd before.
10/4/2015 9:10:03 PM
I have a hotel booked in downtown charleston for next saturday and sunday nights. Wondering if its worth keeping it or if i should just go ahead and call and see if i can get a refund.
10/4/2015 10:35:01 PM
Carolina Beach had some epic flooding today.
10/5/2015 12:34:25 AM
When I see any of the pictures at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3258624/East-coast-storms-leave-22million-Americans-flood-watch-rain-Carolinas-kills-two.html, it makes me wonder, shouldn't the storm drains take the water away?I have not experienced anything like that in the US, so I am asking an honest question. I would have thought the storm drainage systems would be sophisticated enough to evacuated the water pretty quickly, so that it wouldn't build up to such crazy levels in the first place, as can be seen in Charleston below.
10/5/2015 3:44:23 AM
Most storm and sewer infrastructure is old and we need investment, but you still aren't designing for a 200+ year storms event
10/5/2015 7:24:47 AM
So much poop in that water
10/5/2015 10:25:01 AM
10/5/2015 10:52:45 AM
Plus, it's South Carolina. They don't invest in infrastructure.
10/5/2015 11:34:04 AM
And think about where the drainage systems take the water. They take them to the lakes and rivers that are literally overflowing. The lakes are so high the dams are breaking, the rivers are so high the bridges are being washed away. South Carolina and specifically Columbia has never seen rain like this before, why would the drainage system be able to account for something that is unparalleled?
10/5/2015 11:39:52 AM
Barely made it through Columbia yesterday. Had to pull out all the stops to find my way around the I-20 closure while traveling east from Aiken. Downed trees and flooded roads all over the damn place
10/5/2015 12:26:57 PM
btw, meant to post a "whoops " about the shark pic, but I got an OH SHIT! error
10/5/2015 10:55:45 PM
Last night and this morning, the local news had to remind people in eastern NC to stop walking around barefoot in the shit-infested flood waters. Sounds about right.
10/6/2015 9:10:43 AM
Bump for tomorrow.

Pitt County has closed schools early today - wtf. Is it supposed to be that bad...it's just some strong wind and rain right?
2/24/2016 8:45:57 AM
That whole area tends to get slammed when we have a severe weather threat like this one. The last thing you want is a bunch of kids out on buses when there are high winds, hail, and/or tornadoes.I had just gotten off the bus about 10 minutes before an F3 tornado came and ate my hometown when I was 12. Other kids still on the bus had to go get in a ditch.
2/24/2016 8:54:34 AM
Yep. There is absolutely no downside in taking a safe stance and making up the day at the end of the school year.
2/24/2016 9:04:47 AM
2/24/2016 9:06:03 AM
^^Esp when "closing early" doesn't require make-up days. It's the same as a 2hr delay.
2/24/2016 9:18:12 AM
looks like it was shifted east.ah, the map I was looking for]
2/24/2016 9:22:26 AM
70mph+ straight line winds with the ground this saturated? damn, some trees are getting fucked up if that happens[Edited on February 24, 2016 at 9:27 AM. Reason : .]
2/24/2016 9:26:33 AM
We live in an area of Wake county that is prone to high winds even in normal storms. It has already gotten us a new roof and playground for our daughter. I don't think I can make another claim.
2/24/2016 9:41:48 AM
Hunker down, shit about to get real/
2/24/2016 10:39:21 AM
Parents leaving work to pick up kids...other people just plain dipping out because they 'feel uncomfortable' being in the building during the storm. Fuck it, I'm staying. Could be interesting to watch from a 10th story window.
