Love the Osprey picture. I've been trying to get a good bird of prey pictures for a year with no luck. There are a ton of hawks and falcons in my area but taking my camera out is a sure way not to see one.
7/16/2009 8:37:30 PM
Anyone know what kind of camera this is? It was used in the Burberry photo shoot with Emma Watson. Just curious.
7/21/2009 2:24:43 PM
yeah, i do.
7/21/2009 2:25:42 PM

loli was going to say a Hasselblad too.about a $25,000 camera
7/21/2009 2:33:33 PM
That's an expensive fucking camera. I'll have to read up on it and see why it's worth the cost.
7/21/2009 2:33:37 PM
well i've used a Hasselblad film camera, and it was light years beyond anything else i'd ever used with film. haven't even touched a digital Hasselblad though.
7/21/2009 2:35:32 PM
Is that about as high end as you can get in the DSLR world? Or is there better even yet?
7/21/2009 2:38:14 PM
i don't know for a fact, but i doubt there is anything better.http://www.hasselblad.se/products/h-system/h3dii-50.aspxfind a better camera...(not many people even have a need for these)[Edited on July 21, 2009 at 2:42 PM. Reason : k]

7/21/2009 2:41:18 PM
That was the camera I was just reading up on. Sounds awesome.Camera kit is going for $27k on b&h. Businesses can lease it for $1/mo. (Which is awesome)[Edited on July 21, 2009 at 2:45 PM. Reason : le]
7/21/2009 2:44:46 PM
i believe they are almost exclusively used for high end commercial/fashion photography.
7/21/2009 2:47:01 PM
Yeah, from what I'm reading that seems to be what they're geared for. Good thing cause only high end fashion photographers can afford that price tag.

http://dvice.com/archives/2009/07/fujifilm-real-3.php#moreWhy does this camera have two lenses? Simple: Because you do, and Fujifilm's FinePix Real 3D W1 camera aims to take a photo "just as your eyes see it." The camera's 3D system is said to be the only one that can both snap pictures and record video in three dimensions — while never requiring you to wear silly glasses to view them properly. Nice.It captures 3D pics via the two synchronized lenses married to a pair of CCD image sensors, with a proprietary processor "instantaneously" combining the data to create a single 3D image. Impressively, the system includes a 3x zoom, a fairly hard thing to integrate when you consider how precisely aligned the lenses need to be. The two lenses come in handy for 2D shooting, too, letting you capture a close-up and a wide span with the same shot, or getting two identical shots with different color tone. That's all well and good, but how will those 3D pics and videos really look? Hard to say before the Real 3D W1 comes out in September (no price yet), but we're excited to find out. http://dvice.com/galleries/fujifilm3d/fujifilm_3d_03.jpghttp://dvice.com/galleries/fujifilm3d/fujifilm_3d_03.jpg

Sigma 14mm 3.5 a good lens? I know 2.8 is ideal but this lens is going for $150 on ebay.

This might have been asked before but i'm not about to go shuffling through the last 10pages.I've been dying to get a DSLR for the past 4 years and i finally feel like i'm ready to buy one. I'm thinking about buying the T1i and i'm pretty invested in it.Any comments/opinions/words of wisdom you gurus would like to share?
7/23/2009 9:31:00 AM
have you played around with Nikon's D90?im a nikon guy but both are very good cameras Cannon has superior HD video compared with the Nikon but both shoot HD videosome issues with the cannon:
7/23/2009 10:21:01 AM
^Thanks for the postthat article certainly makes the decision a lot harder. hmmm guess i really need to consider what i'm looking for in a camera before i decide.
7/23/2009 10:45:43 AM
^ also, for about the same price new, in the nikon you're getting a camera with a top LCD and two finger-wheels, whereas the T1i has fewer controls and displays.you really really should go get the cameras in your hands before you sink the money. you might find out that too many controls is intimidating and makes the learning curve harder. might be best to buy an older / entry level camera (nikon d40, canon 400d maybe) and plan to use it for a few months to get a feel for things.
7/23/2009 7:40:02 PM
If you're getting a new dSLR don't stress over the bodies, all the intro bodies would probably give you great pictures. You might also make a list of lens you want and compare the prices in both the Nikon vs. Canon catalog. I've had a dSLR for ~2 years and the cost breaks down as:body+kit lens - $450Sigma 10-20mm - $450Canon 70-200mm f/4L - $500Tamron 24-75mm f/2.8 - $350Canon 50mm f/1.8 - $100*2 (I broke one)Total : $1950I'm probably on the light side in terms of spending on optics on this forum but the point is that glass becomes the majority of your expense. My suspicion is Nikon's lenses are slightly more but I've never made an exhaustive comparison. With all this said, if I was beginning again I would seriously look at Pentax.

Critique please. Is the light too harsh? I am using umbrellas with a black back. They are low voltage lights so I put them rather close to the subject but I'm wondering, is it too close? Other advice on anything you see that's awful would be nice too. I know there is sensor dust, good ol clone stamp...[Edited on July 24, 2009 at 3:05 PM. Reason : edit]

someone should tell her not to 'kiwi angle' her head so muchi'm thinking a softer light would ease up on the very noticeable agingthe light is too 'white' rather too much blue in it.plus you took it so it's pretty much garbage from the startshe looks almost orange in the second picture, ps her grill]

keep telling yourself that, eventually you might even delude yourself
7/24/2009 2:58:52 PM
some light coming up from underneath her face would take the shadows from the bags away. See light "C"
7/24/2009 4:55:48 PM
is it illegal to get extreme close up zooms on a cats butthole?
7/24/2009 5:59:21 PM
that is why digital photography was invented. It was too much of a pain to develop your own pictures and you didn't want someone at a photo lab to know how much you like your cats butthole.
7/24/2009 6:31:18 PM
I've tried softening the skin up a little bit. I've never heard of a chin light before. Does it look that bad without it?? Should I pull the lights back or look into getting something to soften the light?I used my 50mm and the fstop was at its lowest with the shutter speed being the fasted, it overexposed if I opened the aperture even just one stop more.
7/24/2009 7:42:47 PM
1. use diffusers to soften the light or tone down the power of the strobes2. remove the stray hair from her forehead, it's distracting3. i might crop a little closer to her head. the square crop looks odd.4. wat?
7/24/2009 8:19:36 PM
I did it in manual and if I opened the aperture a little bit while keeping the shutter speed at its fastest it would slightly overexpose.I'll try aperture mode next time to see what I get.If I use umbrellas how should I diffuse it? Moving it back a lot further? I have the black sheet that is removable, should I remove them so it doesn't reflect as much? Should I shoot through the umbrella? Oh and the strobes have an option of 240v or 120v...[Edited on July 24, 2009 at 8:26 PM. Reason : oye]

Not sure what I can improve on in pp with this one...I did kick the red up a touch and decreased the brightness. It was an overcast day which I assume contributes to the blown-out appearance of the sky.Same deal, just some minor cropping and brightness increase.[Edited on July 24, 2009 at 8:58 PM. Reason : size]
7/24/2009 8:48:20 PM
on the first one, i would:1. try a pano crop to eliminate most of the blown out sky. i'd try and crop right under the horses feet and right above the lighthouse. i think it would work because you have a good lateral distance between the horses and lighthouse. you want the focus of the picture to be on the horses in the foreground rather than on your sky (which is drawing all my attention). plus your horizon splits the picture in half; i'd use the rule of thirds (2/3 foreground, 1/3 sky)2. try using the selection gradient tool (kind of a digital ND filter) and select the foreground, then use the midtone (levels) slider to darken just that part of the photo to boost that up a bit. maybe boost the saturation just a hair in this area as well. i don't know, just a guess.i'd boost the contrast a bit in the second one and burn (darken) the eye sockets in the skull.

Lens Recommendation Requestfor the T1i. New to the DSLR scene but i'm a fast learner. Now let me show you my noobisity and say that i'm looking for a lens that will do cool things and will keep me happy for a long time. what you got?
7/25/2009 9:44:56 AM
^^ those are awesome! i love the colors in the drop in the second shot and how you can see the drop reflected.^ did you end up getting the T1i, or are you just investigating available lenses before making your decision?]
7/25/2009 10:06:13 AM
I ended up buying it. I went downtown last night and took some decent pics after reading the manual once through. now that i know where everything is i just have to practice in fine-tuning, which seems to be the whole name of the game in photography.I'm happy with the kit lens for now, but I know i'm going to be looking for more in the near future so I'm here to look for what you frequent photographers have to say on lenses.
7/25/2009 10:38:38 AM
here are some pics from last nightAnything stand out fundamentally that i need to work on? I'll take all advice.
