mexico/costa rica will probably bring c squads with no need to win so its actually likely that we are out with a loss.

Yep. A tie probably puts 3 teams at 13 points with 1.5 spots to share. No doubt we need to win.

Honduras/Mexico 18:00

Panama/Costa Rica 19:00

USA/T&T 20:00

I doubt it happens, but we could be sitting good when we kickoff if Mexico and Costa Rica are up big.

I mean..if we lose Tuesday we deserve to miss out.

^exactly. It sucks that it came down to one game but we had plenty of chances to seal it up but we couldn’t get out of our own way.

yep. this is honestly the least dramatic 'it comes down to one game' moment we could have. Sure, it's away. But it's far and away the weakest team in the hex who has barely been able to get on the board with a <1:3 GF:GA ratio. If we lose, and end up with a losing record in the hex, we don't deserve to even sniff the WC.

They might even get to head into the game knowing exactly what result is needed, because there's a very real chance the game is delayed even further due to the swamp-like field conditions.

Dang I knew US wasn't that into soccer since teams sometimes have to play on football fields, but T&T makes their team play on a golf course?? Jeez....

(psst...)

Wonder what the chances are if we are going to lose that Mexico gives up a goal late as a reward for that whole wall thing

4 years ago the U.S. scored late and saved Mexico's chances of making the World Cup in the last match of the Hex.

they kept klinnsman too long and all these players returning to mls was a bad idea.

Pathetic! We would have been in the World Cup if we hadn't given up that late goal at home vs Mexico, or if we had tied Costa Rica at home. We lost too many home games in the hex.

BigSoccer is going to be fun tonight.

I have to laugh at Fox Sports though. They paid all this money...

Gulati is gone from the head of the USSF for sure. There are organizations inside the U.S. Soccer Federation who are not connected to the pro or international game, give nothing but rubber stamp approval to those items, but receive funding subsidized by our World Cup proceeds, and now they're going to be receiving budget cuts. And they have votes in the organization.

Klinsmann was a monorail salesman, always was. He convinced some people of his spiel though, chief among them Gulati. Then when Klinsmann got here he attempted to cover up all his talk and how he wasn't doing any better than Papa Bradley by bringing in guys developed by the German FA because the Germans are better at soccer than we are (or almost anyone else for that matter). Got fired too late, tried to bring in Arena as a Band-Aid, didn't work. What was awesome about the Arena teams of old was the midfield and forwards could get trounced, that back four would hold up and be a fortress. We've not had that fortress for almost all of this decade. And here we are losing to a Trinidad team that entered at 1-8.

You play with fire long enough you are gonna get burned. If we can't beat Trinidad we don't deserve the World Cup.

Atrocious. Unacceptable.

Arena coming back was never the answer for going forward. I sure didn't expect it to go so far backwards though...

Guess I'll give those 'I' letter islands a cheer then - they are bound to show some passion at least

I'm not defending Arena, but with this group of players I don't think any coach was the answer.

He's getting older. He came off the bench last game and we won big. There was no need to break what works. That own goal killed us.

I was actually quite worried about this game. We have a history of playing close games @ T&T. In 1989 we won 1-0, in 2009 we won 1-0. We never seem to go down there and put them away.

on a side note, in case you haven't heard, the Netherlands didn't qualify either.
