3G battery life isn't great but really isn't any worse than any other Android phone would be if it had a comparable size battery. LTE is pretty much abysmal especially if you're using it but that's the case on all of the LTE devices.

opinions on the photon 4g?
7/28/2011 11:06:57 PM
Its basically an atrix, right? Spec wise, its pretty similar to atrix and bionic. Locked down bootloader, iirc. But Motorola's screens are really falling behind. Samsung is leading the way. I'm seriously debating blowing off the bionic and nursing my Droid. I'd die for a galaxy s ii with lte.Either I'm gonna say fuck lte or fuck the screen issue. I've already given up on keyboards. I dont know which i'll decide is the big motivator... Unless the rumor mill produces an ideal phone by christmas... which it could, given the ice cream sandwich release.[Edited on July 29, 2011 at 1:29 AM. Reason : .][Edited on July 29, 2011 at 1:30 AM. Probably because HTC actually put a decent size battery in it. It's still smaller than some of the other dual core devices like the Atrix though.
7/29/2011 1:38:55 PM
my friend got the extended battery for his thunderboltit looks stupid and is now about the size of my 4.3" tomtom GPS (but heavier)i'm happy with 24+ hours of battery
7/29/2011 2:19:18 PM
I don't understand the purpose of the bulky extended batteries. If the phone lasts all day, what else is needed? We all sleep in houses with electricity, why not just plug it in / put it on the cradle when going to sleep each night?
7/29/2011 2:38:33 PM
Because some people use their phone more than just a couple 5 minute phone calls each day and some people travel a lot and use a lot of data, in both instances, it's very atypical that a phone last more than 3-4 hours if the screen is constantly on or if you are constantly on a phone call.I agree though, under normal circumstance it's not needed.[Edited on July 29, 2011 at 2:57 PM. Haven't had any problems with my Thunderbolt. But then I'm not glued to it all day watching Stargate reruns.
7/29/2011 3:06:02 PM
well fuck mesomehow the OTA update got through on my rooted (stock) thunderbolt and now it's in a reboot loop and i get a screen with the android logo and a white triangle with an exclamation point in it i'm sure there's a way around this problem...pulling out the battery will let me turn it back on (but then it reboots after a minute or so)...how do i fix this?
7/29/2011 7:18:15 PM
i've had that triangle exclamation screen come up before but i cant remember what buttons i had to press, i have a droid with a physical keyboard though so i dunno the buttons for your phone, might want to google for your specific model phone, its basically booting into the bootloader, worst case you'll have to factory reset and reconfigure some stuff but the phone isnt bricked, best case you dont lose anything[Edited on July 29, 2011 at 7:30 PM. Reason : do your camera/volume buttons do anything?]
7/29/2011 7:28:39 PM
older but may be relevant. To get into clockwork, you can try to open rom manager and reboot into recovery. If that works, make sure there isn't a PG05IMG.zip on your sd card, power off, hold volume down+power to get into hboot. Hopefully you still have S-Off. There should be an option for Recovery in hboot (may need to select fastboot).http://www.droidforums.net/forum/thunderbolt-tech-support/147167-how-get-rid-ota-forced-reboots-rooted-phone.htmlrooted mr2- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160374

Guess I should've specified that I was referring to stock HTC devices. I had an HTC Diamond Touch and its battery was atrocious, and since then I've always heard that the battery life on HTC devices in general is terrible. I use my phone a lot for internet browsing and general dicking around, and my HTC would last maybe 3-4 hours under my typical use.My Droid 2 lasts a while longer, generally gets to low battery after 9 hours of heavy use. I don't watch netflix or anything on it though
7/29/2011 7:56:48 PM
^^^ that's what i tried first...and the factory reset failed ^^ i googled for 30 minutes and never came across that page it seems to be back up and running...i had to race the reboot to get into ROM manager...i finally got it, but i think i may have been able to just choose "recovery" from the boot manager (holding power + volume down)...clearing the cache partition worked greatthanks for the suggestions, y'all...i suppose i need to find a rooted version of the latest update so these stupid notices quit popping up...it happened TWICE today

I'm sure that people can take what was learned from the Atrix to the photon and unlock the bootloader, or at least 2nd init and bypass the bootloader.

Got my upgrade eligibility (Sprint) reset today, so Im eligible to get a new phone at the new customer price. Have a Evo currently...thinking about upgrading to the Evo 3D, but wondering if I should consider something else, such as the Galaxy SII, or something else...wondering what the general consensus is, if there is one. All Im really concerned about is having better battery life than the Evo, and would like to have a camera as good as what I had (3D isnt that important, obviously).
7/30/2011 4:31:02 PM
i'd take either a photon or a nexus s 4g if i'm on sprint
7/30/2011 4:41:14 PM
I have the Evo3D and love it. Shit just got better with S-OFF and PermRoot. Soon, I'm sure CM7 nightly betas will start surfacing.my 3 hong kong batteries just arrived today as well!
7/30/2011 7:17:48 PM
how'd you get your upgrade eligibility reset?i was thinking of waiting for the nexus prime...
7/31/2011 4:46:18 PM
.......my keyboard on my DROIDX stopped working. Spacebar would close the keyboard and it would take upwards of 10the seconds for a letter to respond after I hit it. Swype was the same....apparently I had taught it too many words because once I cleared the learned word list it was fine
7/31/2011 4:48:50 PM
That's kinda funny. I think ill buy another phone out of contract if the atrix 2 actually is happening. That or if att picks up the next nexus

i had mine reset like 4 days after getting the 3D lol. Asked for it on my Hero line and they reset all my lines

Holy fuck the Hero is slow.

yes. it rules.
8/3/2011 1:21:10 PM
It's not bad, especially when it's FAC, but I don't know that I would waste my incentives on it. The EVO4G is already EOL and those specs are barely better.Does anyone know how to uninstall or reinstall ADW through ADB? I applied the honeycomb theme and I cannot get to settings or anything to uninstall it. ADW keeps force closing on me every 2 seconds.[Edited on August 3, 2011 at 1:32 PM. Reason : ]

I'm stuck on a sprint family plan for 6 more months.. can I just walk into bestbuy and pick up the nexus S via the free upgrade? I'll be staying with sprint after the 6 months are up, just not on the same planI'm gonna try after work, can't hurt right?
8/3/2011 2:18:16 PM
any new word on the bionic release?I guess a better question - is this the phone to get for a while? or do you think something much better is coming soon? It seems that the "best" devices seem to follow a 1-2 year cycle.Got a DX... LOVE the screen size, and don't want to lose that. would like to step into a much better processor. 1 GB of ram would be nice too. And obviously, 4G.[Edited on August 3, 2011 at 2:19 PM. Reason : .]

^^Are you eligible for an upgrade? If so, probably, but possibly not. I know that the Evo4G at BB was free only for new contracts in June. Upgrade price was 100.
8/3/2011 2:24:54 PM
I should be.. contract was signed Feb 2010 and none of the 4 lines have used an upgrade since thenwill post back with results
8/3/2011 2:29:54 PM
Finally got gingerbread on my DX2. No big change besides now I can get the Netflix app That and I like the haptic feedback for text input better. I guess I'll have to see if the battery improves but I am very happy with battery performance anyway so it's no big deal if there is nothing noticeable. [Edited on August 3, 2011 at 2:56 PM. lol @ MSRP.And yeah, same shit as with the Evo4G. They're eating some or all of the commission they receive for signing up a new customer. Wirefly/Amazon Wireless do this some times as well.

just noticed semi recently that using the actual camera physical hotbutton to take pictures instead of the on-screen 'button' gives much better focus (D2G)]

Ti announced that their omap 4 is the preferred processor for ice cream sandiwch. Interesting since motorola is the only one who really uses it. Maybe next nexus is going to be a Motorola device? Hopefully this means the next nexus is Verizon? Some interesting speculation floating around.
