Jim Jordan 20 votes shy

Well that's a shame[Edited on October 17, 2023 at 2:20 PM. Reason : -]
10/17/2023 2:20:11 PM
^^ I think that was best-case. Insider speculations I'd read ranged from less than 10, up to a max of maybe 20, depending on whom you asked.
10/17/2023 6:08:29 PM
Give it to Patrick McHenry and let's move on. Jim Jordan would be a disaster.
10/17/2023 7:15:16 PM
I'm down to be Speaker
10/17/2023 10:05:48 PM
No maga assholes please so Jimmy Jo is out

Always love the ROFL Copter!
10/18/2023 9:33:28 PM
^^^^ from what I’ve read, there is a block who opposes him who plans to have one or two more defect on every vote.I’m not quite sure why that way instead of just all voting against him to start with
10/18/2023 10:46:47 PM
A flair for the dramatic.
10/18/2023 10:49:43 PM
^^To make him look worse and worse each vote?
10/18/2023 11:21:38 PM
Sure, obviously. But it seems like making him look like a hopeless, futile effort immediately would be better, given the time pressure building to get things sorted out.
10/19/2023 12:10:36 AM
^that assumes that they’re rational politicians
10/19/2023 12:22:04 AM
I guess that bipartisanship is a non-starter for the current House GOP.https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2023/10/19/congress/empower-mchenry-dead-00122543

Trump said “nope”, because Emmer hasn’t been completely limitless in his support for him, and a couple dozen MAGAs grabbed his pocket like little bitches.I’m gonna laugh my ass off when the mainstream-ish Republicans accept that stupid MAGAs will never accept anything except a coup for one of their own, and they all say “you’re not gonna wag the dog. fuck this and fuck all of you for fucking up the only thing the party had going. Again.”“Yo Hakeem, you wanna help us castrate some douchebag MAGAs?”
10/24/2023 5:23:12 PM
Are the balls Trump?
10/24/2023 7:01:45 PM
^^We can only hope for that level of self-awareness. But I'll be honest, I don't see it.
10/24/2023 7:55:01 PM
I think enough of them are self aware. It’s just a matter of the political calculus. What are they more scared of? Continuing paralysis in the House? Being held hostage by a minority of douchebag MAGAs? Benign punished in the general election for all of this?…Or primaries and being cast as a RINO by Trump, and probably some bad blood generated among fellow party members who are not even full-fledge MAGA cultists.
10/24/2023 9:23:35 PM
Don't forget the death threats! They'll give the gavel back to McCarthy before any bipartisan/power-sharing/coalitional choice.
10/24/2023 10:00:30 PM
Or, they will elect election-denier Mike Johnson.
10/25/2023 1:55:31 PM
10/25/2023 2:27:18 PM
I feel like Christian Nationalist is an accurate term to describe Mike Johnson.
10/25/2023 3:33:25 PM
^^
10/25/2023 5:30:26 PM
Republicans could've had it all. with some sound and professional messaging, they could've won the culture war. but they're fucking dolts
10/25/2023 5:36:56 PM
They had a chance to strike a heavy blow to the MAGA cult, too, but instead they enabled them and aggravated the problem that they and the country continue to suffer from.
10/26/2023 10:53:08 AM
They owned the libs, though, so there’s that.
10/26/2023 3:38:45 PM
the funny thing is that they... didn'tthey could've
10/26/2023 4:49:42 PM
A tweet:
10/27/2023 2:59:49 PM
Is that really how electing a leader works? If you vote for them you necessarily endorse every policy position they've ever had?
10/27/2023 3:22:14 PM
how has the end of Roe v. Wade been for republicans in the elections held since the ruling?
10/27/2023 3:33:38 PM
^^mea culpa, I saw that this morning and assumed it meant 10/26 but it was posted on 10/26, figured there first act was voting on some resolution. Guess your interpretation of referencing the speaker election makes way more sense.
10/27/2023 4:00:34 PM
No problem. I think if that kind of vote happened, we'd hesr about it on more than just Twitter / X. There was no good leader candidate among the Republican ranks, and certainly no one who could have been elected who wouldn't have had some historically unpalatable policy positions as viewed by Democrats, but we need to pretend we have a functional government.

11/2/2023 1:27:14 AM
^ seems like democrats basically kept him in. We’ll see if they hold another vote when the reports come back
11/3/2023 11:49:09 PM
I think most people want that guy gone...votes to keep him were mostly votes for adhering to process, not for Santos himself.[Edited on November 4, 2023 at 8:18 PM. Reason : ]
