Where has that been? Maybe now that he sees he has no chance to win he finally feels he has nothing to lose. Maybe still slightly annoyed about having almost been killed.

Checked r/conservative and there’s actually people starting to push back against the trumpists. Very few people relatively speaking supporting trump openly there even

The evidence in the indictments is basically impossible to ignore unless you’re deep into the cult

That said trump still dominating primary polling and first NYT biden/trump 24 poll shows a dead heat. Gop still deep in Trump land.

thankfully, it’s gonna be harder than they hoped, thanks to their attacks on bodily autonomy

part of it also probably has to do with republicans being old
but yeah, even with that, still pretty significant

It really does surprise me that we're that far gone that him and Feinstein haven't resigned yet.
Their governors can just appoint another person of their party.

Gotta have some dignity. the senate can clap for you and whatever as you walk out, it's done

I don’t see this working out for the gop under any scenario

If we get to the end of the CR and the gov shuts down people will be pissed

If moderate gop works with Dems to pass funding, Magas will melt

I might be missing something but I don’t see any way for them to win

^No, not really. McCarthy was rather to the right, but there are more central/moderate Republicans who could take the gavel. Trump wouldn't even want to be speaker.

The question is, who'd want to?

Scalise is already in leadership, I think he has a good chance.

the problem isn't who is Speaker. The problem is that it won't matter who is Speaker.

No Speaker can bridge this fundamentally untenable gap.

Trump has dropped hints he wants to be speaker. The maga nuts in Congress seem to be solidifying the idea he should be speaker.

They’re playing into the hands of democrats by showing the world how big of clowns they are.

Trump won't want to be speaker. There is a reason he isn't attending the debates and all.
The dude is battling several legal cases and is running for president too, even if he wanted to, he couldn't. It's common sense. He drops hints about everything, that's just his style.

Trump being speaker is just a headline for MAGA hats to laugh over and people to cry over online for a few days.

If he does become speaker, I will have to wear the dunce cap in this thread though, so there's that.

This, however, is true. The republicans had one thing on the democrats in the culture wars, that they were supposed to be more normal/traditional, and now they look foolish.

I think trump would want to be speaker. It lets him be the center of attention again which is his entire strategy to get elected. Doesn’t matter if he has court cases because trump has never cared about doing any actual
Work. And it lets him create chaos which is also advances his goals of destroying American government.

(this is an excellent setup for someone to reply: "No. He's real." as a cool atheist moment or "No. He's worse." as a cool... democrat moment.)

Jim Jordan is a real piece of work, but I will say he's seemingly more intelligent than McCarthy who is obviously very, very stupid. Are Democrats supposed to be rooting for Steve Scalise since he's less MAGA and more likely to try and actually govern? I can't say I'm surprised that McCarthy is gone, but one would think that Republicans would have at least attempted to see a few moves ahead of this self-own.

Of course they have...but very few over the last decade or so.

Anyway, Scalise has dropped out. I guess he either did the math and saw that he didn't have the votes and wasn't going to get them, or he said "Why in the hell would I try this hard to land one of the shittiest jobs in the world?"

So that raises the question, is it Speaker Jim Jordan by default? Seems like he'd have a hard time getting the votes, too. This might turn into a dramatically larger shitshow that it already is.

hell even Jim Jordan is trying to push people towards Scalise for the last day or two]

I'm gonna laugh if after all of this and what's to come, it ends up being McCarthy again. I'm gonna laugh even harder if things get so dire that a centrist unity candidate gets it, after making a bunch of concessions to Dems, in exchange for a large chunk of their votes.

Aside from just flat of refusing to govern or do their fucking jobs in an effort to make DC appear even more dysfunctional and toxic, what is the upside to this tactic? Are they going to stall and stall and stall and let the Democrats allow Hakeem Jeffries be the "fall guy" when the government shutdown actually takes place?

I know this is so absurd and ridiculous that it seems comical on its face, but given all the BS in Israel this is a really, really bad look from an international perspective.
