^^ Yeah, I probably should have explained that. That's what I'm thinking unless I happen to come across a good deal on a non-SA 75b on armslist/gunbroker. Thank you sir.

So while out shopping around for a carry piece, I ended up with a Del-Ton AR-15 from North Raleigh Guns (seriously, I love those guys)16"centerpoint red/greenhogue gripUTC forend/hardware3 steel mags + softcase+moreThing's in pristine condition and has hardly been used. Trigger is crisp as hell, can't wait to go shooting
1/11/2012 3:37:56 PM
Awesome! Let's go shooting!

^^ Thanks a lot. So, basically my options have come down to:(1) Brand new, CZ 75b (SA or not) for $500 + $20 FFL(2) My buddy has one of the old 1996 turkish contract CZ 75b guns. It has some visible wear on the outside but mechanically works great. The only noticeable difference in function/form compared to the new ones are the grips. He wants $400 + $20 FFL.Is it worth the extra 100 bones to get a new gun -- with knowing that one is cosmetically superior, as well as much newer, but they'll both shoot similar? Here's a pic of his:Opinions appreciated! I'm awful at decisions like this.
1/11/2012 6:02:54 PM
How much do you trust your buddy? If you don't think he'd try to screw you then $400 seems ok or a tiny bit on the high side. It doesn't appear to have a lot of wear on the outside. If the internals are in the same shape then it's probably a decent/good buy. Do you know how many rounds have gone through it?Personally I'd save money and get the used one as long as it was mechanically good and didn't have more than a few hundred rounds through it. A couple thousand rounds through it could be ok at that price if he kept really good care of the internals. With a used gun you won't feel so bad when you accidentally drop it and scratch it.BTW, if the new gun has night sights then it'll be a better deal. The half life of tritium is around 12 years. Past 12 years they usually don't glow enough to be useful. If the used one has night sights they shouldn't add any value compared to regular sights.[Edited on January 11, 2012 at 11:18 PM. Reason : ]

^ I trust him quite a bit, well, at least with guns and properly maintaining them. He's a bit of a collector and has around 40-50 in total (including he and his dad's stash). They;re mostly older handguns but I'm not overly concerned.I figure that at $400 shipped if I really dont like the gun, I can turnaround and sell it for about the same price and not lose any skin on the deal. So, it's pretty low risk and I've always wanted a CZ.
1/11/2012 11:42:33 PM
paerabol, how much did that cost you? It looks very nice.

1/12/2012 3:44:32 PM
Damnit. I wanted to know too.
1/12/2012 3:47:38 PM
I'll just put it this way...they had it listed at 850 which from what I understand was a great buy from a dealeralso, I picked up a G32 from Phsdc today and they had a base-model S&W AR15 for around 650...also nice price if anyone is interested
1/12/2012 4:03:44 PM
I recommend all budget ARs from Palmetto State Armory - great products, all mil-spec, cold hammer forged barrels and lowers from FN (which supplies barrels to much of the military) - an FN plant is located right down the road from PSA in Columbia, South Carolina.http://palmettostatearmory.com/You can get a full AR for $650 shipped from them, or have them build you a custom gun
1/12/2012 4:14:48 PM
how hard/expensive is it to build a piston AR 15? I am looking to build a 9mm AR pistol and then a 223 rifle... but I was wondering how much more I was gonna drop on building a piston vs gas rifle. Any good kits out there? is this an over-ambitious goal for a first time assembler?
1/12/2012 5:47:13 PM
Is there something in particular you're trying to accomplish? I've never really seen the point. Sure, it keeps a little bit of gunk out of the receiver, but it's neither hard to clean nor disruptive to function anyway. I'd save my money and just get something that will matter like a better trigger or optics.

i still haven't figured out what i wanna do for an upper i was just about to pull the trigger on a RRA 20" coyote rifle upper: http://rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=387but then i got to thinking maybe i'd like a 16" midlength for weight and maneuverability advantages, but the RRA 16" coyote carbine is, well, carbine length. does it make much difference in performance? will i notice the weight/maneuverability difference between 16" and 20"?tell me what you would choose for coyote calling and other hunting where you walk around a lot. give me links to actual parts, complete uppers or just barrels.
1/12/2012 7:38:23 PM
^What range do you think you will be shooting at? <200yards, ....., 400+?
1/12/2012 8:33:04 PM
let's say out to 300 yds.if i expect shots longer than that, i'll just deal with my heavy-ass .22-250
1/12/2012 8:45:04 PM
^^^^gas piston uppers handle being suppressed much better. Ruger and LWRC make a gas piston AR, which you could consider instead of building one yourself. I've got a Ruger SR556 that I've been happy with.[Edited on January 12, 2012 at 8:49 PM. Reason : .]

anyone here a glock guru? I'd like to outfit my 32 a little bit, maybe night sights, trigger upgrade, light...not lookin for competition barrels or internals necessarily unless there are substantial improvements to be made with minimal cost inputwould just like some general info and reading to learn more about what i'm holding
1/12/2012 8:57:36 PM
scratch the trigger upgrade, I want to come to fully appreciate the stock trigger first
1/12/2012 9:45:39 PM
I'm a certified GLOCK armorer....Night Sights- Pick a brand, they all have their followers.Trigger Upgrade- What are you looking for? This can range from leave-it-the-hell-alone to $300. The trigger makes up a lot of the 'internals' of the glock. Trigger upgrades range from putting in the smooth face trigger, + or - connectors, and trigger spring, to glockworx(?) new fulcrum triggers. Light- Streamlight TLR1 or Surefire X300. These are the most common. I use a TLR-1 on mine.http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/index.php
1/12/2012 9:46:03 PM
awesome, thanks for the info. Yeah I did some more reading into the innovation of the glock trigger and I'd like to keep it stock for a while unless there's something I just cant handle about it
1/12/2012 9:50:35 PM
The only plug I have for aftermarket night sights is that I like the Meprolight bi-color night sights on my XD. They still look great after 4 years on the gun.
1/12/2012 10:13:39 PM
I personally love the Glock trigger.I prefer the '-' connector and standard trigger spring. This is called the 3.5# trigger. It really comes to about 4.5#.I like the take-up (which is disengaging the safeties), then the nice little push to make if fire, as well as the short reset on the trigger. When I teach new shooters, I call it the take up, and the click (noise from dry firing).[Edited on January 12, 2012 at 10:30 PM. Would like to get $450 (Night Sights, box, 2 or 3 magazines, and can thrown in a little bear custom IWB holster).

paerabol I've got a Scherer Connector 3-1/2 lb connector in my G27. I love it. If you want to look/shoot it some time, just let me know. For about $5, it does wonders on lightening up the tigger. It's not as "crisp" on the break, which I love the stock connector for, however, it's still a B+/A- compared to an A+ stock connector in that aspect. The Scherer connector makes the two-stage trigger feel like one long single action pull. [Edited on January 13, 2012 at 12:03 PM. Reason : .]
1/13/2012 12:01:37 PM
after doing a bunch of dry-firing last night to really learn the trigger, I've come to appreciate it...and eventually want to try to learn to rapid-fire it off the break point. I still wouldnt mind feeling your trigger out though, did you have the scherer connector on there when I shot your g27 a few months ago?
1/13/2012 12:09:46 PM
No. That was a factory trigger. For ~$6 I thought I'd try something different. Overall, I wouldn't say it's better or worse than stock. It's just different. [Edited on January 13, 2012 at 3:06 PM. Reason : .]

Anyone pick up anything at the gun show this weekend?I just went in for some .357 SIG, ended up getting some Prvi Partizan 7.62x51 as well. The prices haven't been that good on guns from what I've seen. $500 for a Norinco SKS? $800 for a Saiga 12? What the hell man.
1/15/2012 8:04:56 PM
^^that looks pretty slick. did you have to do any fitting?^i bought 9 lbs. of powder, 2000 primers, and 1000 bullets. my wife picked up a stripped lower for herself.[Edited on January 15, 2012 at 8:20 PM. Reason : ds]
1/15/2012 8:07:27 PM
^^ All the Saiga 12s I saw were in the $675 range.
1/15/2012 8:28:29 PM
nope! i sanded a couple of areas but it fit nice and tight.mag floorplate isnt perfectly square with bottom of stock but all these old guns are a little bit different from one another.didnt get to shoot it this weekend but it shoulders much more comfortably than it did previously. once i see how well it shoots the variety of ammo i have ill decide if im going to keep it and what ammo exactly im going to stockpile for it.since ive sporterized it a bit now peep sights arent out of the question (mojo).
1/15/2012 8:40:12 PM
i'd ditch that straight bolt handle for a curved one and kill some deer
1/15/2012 8:55:53 PM
I got an iwb holster, some targets, ak mags and 7.62x39, and about 500rds of .357sig. almost bought a whoooole lot more but I restrained myselfJK, what kind of prices did you come across for the .357sig? I bought out the rest of georgia arms' loads at $16/50, most of another guys' stock because I did some name dropping and he dropped his to $20/box the rest were some defensive rounds from a small armorer whose name is eluding me atm, $23.50/box. all in all a hell of a lot better than I'd have paid otherwise but damn this is an expensive cartridge
