win out then lose to UVA in the championship game
10/8/2017 1:42:25 PM
Here is what is going to happen, we're going to win out and then lose to one win UNC in the finale.

If Fedora hasn't switched to "beat state no matter what" mode yet, he's an idiot.

If it was in Chapel Hill I could see that but not in CF this season.
10/8/2017 6:19:14 PM
Wake, ND, and Clemson worry me. Pitt, UNC, and BC do not. and that's not because i'm suddenly super confident in our team and program. but those 3 teams are just not good at all.
10/9/2017 7:15:26 AM
That's precisely why they should worry you.

10/9/2017 12:22:32 PM
^I think we have some LBs that we were hoping to RS if we really need to burn one or more. Losing the experience will definitely hurt though.
10/9/2017 12:31:01 PM
We need some losses by VT and especially Miami coming up. An Orange bid would make me never question DD again.Even if we're at 3 losses w/ ND and Clemson, we'd hopefully get the Citrus, at least.I just want to see us in a bowl we've never been good enough for. And not one with a dumbass name like the TaxSlayer Bowl. It sounds bush league.[Edited on October 9, 2017 at 7:01 PM. Reason : G]
10/9/2017 6:57:55 PM
We just need to take care of business. That's it.
10/9/2017 7:02:11 PM
We need VT and Miami with as few losses as possible going into the ACC championship game. It is already going to be difficult to break the top 4 with 1 loss.
10/9/2017 7:08:57 PM
These rankings don't matter to me. It's the bowls that matter. That's the $ and prestige. And I want something we've never seen before. I want a SEC or Big 10 team that's not an also-ran nothing. Even a PAC 12 matchup in the Sun is more appealing. That's a conference we never play. Just please for the love of god no AAC team or another Charlotte trip.^ how does that not put us at a disadvantage for the bowls we're competing for if they're at 1 loss? Get this Playoff shit out of here.[Edited on October 9, 2017 at 7:12 PM. Reason : J]
10/9/2017 7:11:13 PM
Thats irrelevant. Our goal is to win out and go to the playoff. If we win the ACC, we are locked into a top bowl and if we lose to Clemson, but win our other games, we will likely be in the new years 6 at large. If we lose to Clemson and another game in addition to that, then we shouldn't want to play against another good team to lose against in a bowl so its moot.
10/9/2017 7:19:39 PM
^exsctly. We need whoever we defeat in the acc championship game (Miami or Vt), to be as highly ranked as possible, so we can slip into the playoff.[Edited on October 9, 2017 at 7:31 PM. Reason : Especially now that our Fsu win isn't looking as hot with their suckyness]

I'm gonna call it right now, regardless of who it is, if the ACC champion has 1 loss, they'll be in the playoffs.Miami and VT still have to play each other. And they both still have to play GT and UVA (who isn't completely terrible this year!) And Miami has to play ND as well. I seriously doubt VT runs the table even though their schedule is pretty soft. They haven't impressed me much this year. Miami just lost their #1RB for the season, so that will definitely hurt them, but IMO they're still the team to beat in the coastal. I think it's pretty realistic to think that the coastal winner will have at least 2 losses. Honestly, the coastal race has very, very little bearing on our bowl prospects. If we win out with the exception of Clemson we'll get a very, very, very good bowl. If we lose 3 games we'll still end up in one of the top ACC bowls. If things implode we'll end up in Birmingham or whatever.

This is why we can't have nice things. We're looking good, we're playing on both sides of the ball better than we have since 2002, maybe even 1992 if you adjust for our schedule and the strength of the ACC this year. So of course rather than aim for what could ACTUALLY happen beyond our wildest dreams last year, we aim for something that won't happen just to set us up for disappointment because you people are addicted to failing.Even if we win out, it's gonna be Bama, 2 Big 10s, and a Big 12 team. We are going to lose between 2 and 3 games and we need to play for our best outcome within those parameters. If we're up against a 2 loss VT and a 2 loss Miami, we could fight for the Orange Bowl. That's a BFD. So we need them to lose. If it's 3 or more losses, we'll end up in Charlotte playing whatever Butch Jones assistant is in there after he's fired.[Edited on October 9, 2017 at 9:35 PM. Given the most likely scenarios, losses by Miami and VT benefit our Bowl standing. Cut and dry. End of story. You're going to be left with your dick in your hands at the Bad Boy 4 Life St Pete Bowl if you're thinking "BRING IT ON BAMA."

Are we really bitching about winning out and missing the CFP? You're telling me you're going to be disappointed if this team manages to win out, beating at least 2 ranked teams(potentially 3rd in ACCCG), wins the Atlantic Division, and goes to a great bowl just because the CFP slights us(they won't, but you have to be bitching to bitch)? Please, GTFO. We aren't going to win out. I don't think anyone in the ACC is going undefeated in conference play. We can lose an ACC game and beat Clemson and still win the Atlantic. Who gives a flying fuck about the CFP? If we manage to make and win the ACCCG and we've only lost 1 game(fucking South Carolina), at THAT point I'll be a little concerned about the CFP. But fuck moping about that shit now. Plus the CFP is designed to have recency bias, so winning @ND, beating Clemson, potentially beating Miami/VT, that would hold a LOT more water than a week 1 loss on a neutral site to a healthy South Carolina team.
10/10/2017 8:35:46 AM
How would the ND loss count? Does it affect our chances in the Atlantic?
10/10/2017 8:37:40 AM
ND is OOC

A little bit of success and people completely forget that this is still NC State we are talking about here. One game at a time guys, one game at a time. Remember how the other seasons we were feeling this way turned out? We need to take care of Pitt this week. ND is probably the most important game on our schedule left right now regarding bowl games. Assume we are going to lose to Clemson and not win the Atlantic right now. After those 3 games then we can reevaluate the season potential again.
10/10/2017 9:03:14 AM
Fuck that. I'm evaluating right now. Bama has flaws and we are gonna beat the shit out of them. No other game on the schedule except that one matters.
10/10/2017 9:08:50 AM
one game at a time is for the players and coaches. fans always have and always will be able to look ahead. it impacts nothing.

Joey Galloway showing the Pack some love on ESPN's Playoff Top 25 show. Basically said look out for this team. Would be in by winning out and beating up on the soft opponents.

I know we are a long way off from championship showdown with bama( when is game, january?) But how do we for real matchup with them? Their players always look way bigger than ours when I see them play on the TV's. It's probably just my inferiority complex though. Our players are probably similarly sized.[Edited on October 10, 2017 at 10:41 PM. Reason : Excited]

Bama would beat us 16-0.

bamas d can't shut us down and we would stop their run. ridley would get 200+ yards receiving and we would probably lose 35-21

^ no. i mean if we're talking about realistically going 10-2, then we're pretty fucking close to 11-1. in which case a team CFP talk isn't completely loony. i wasn't saying as a 10-2 team we'd make it. if we're saying 10-2 is on the table, then 11-1 isn't that far fetched.[Edited on October 11, 2017 at 6:56 AM. When we lose to Pitt Saturday, this thread is really going to look comical.
