he definitely showed flashes. the kid can sling it. if he calms down and doesn't overthrow 5-6 recievers he has a fantastic day.
8/31/2013 11:00:51 PM
dude has started two years (albeit at a different school) and has had plenty of first team snaps in practice here, he shouldn't need time to calm down. Also I don't know where you people are getting that he is an excellent pocket passer. he sure didn't show it today.
8/31/2013 11:39:18 PM
you can't understand why a guy who transfered to be "the guy" then got beat out for the job for by another transfer, might be trying a little to hard and pressing to prove he should have won it outright in his first action?you're not really that obtuse are you ?
8/31/2013 11:45:27 PM
He was overthrowing guys badly. He wasn't pressing. It wasn't jitters. He just doesn't have any control on his throws.
8/31/2013 11:50:21 PM
Hopefully he was just a little off (assuming we need him for the next few weeks). Ya know, some days you just can't quite throw a ball exactly where you want to. At least we have Richmond to see if he can improve or get more comfortable or whatever
8/31/2013 11:50:50 PM
I think its more that he isnt a fit for this offense.

losing mitchell is definitely bad. but i am like, meh - we only saw him for what... 2 drives? how attached can ya really be?it does guarntee an entire season of constant 'what if'.... (B. Mitchell hadn't.... )[Edited on September 1, 2013 at 1:14 AM. Reason : crk]
9/1/2013 1:13:44 AM
They definitely changed the offense for ThomasDID NOT LIKE
9/1/2013 1:32:09 AM
that however i can very much agree with.creecy thornton and mayes are going to have to be golden gods for us to have a decent year.
9/1/2013 2:09:39 AM
I was reading this thread and thought that we had lost.LOL
9/1/2013 10:12:32 AM
Jesus christ. School is cursed. Doeren looking like a great hire though. We looked sharp for having so little talent. Wed be a top 50 team with Mitchell. Thomas sucks though so were screwed
9/1/2013 12:01:49 PM
we should be fine. if he's to be out 4-6 weeks and you assume he's back for syracuse at the latest, in that time the only game where mitchell is likely to make a difference is clemson, and even with clemson we were competitive the last two seasons, dominating them two years ago and pissing away a win with shitty defense last year.
9/1/2013 2:50:39 PM
^ I'd like to have him back by the Wake game.We need to win in Winston and beat the 'Cuse. We should easily go bowling if those 2 happen.

9/1/2013 4:18:22 PM
Did any other FBS schools lose a starting qb to injury yesterday?
9/1/2013 4:29:37 PM
game threads continue to bring out the shittiest "fans". disparaging our qb after his first possession. some "fans" seem to look forward to this time of year so they can get on the internet and cry and talk shit about their team. i just don't get it.
9/2/2013 11:05:06 AM
^This. The starting job came down to the wire. Not sure how you can say that Mitchell is that much better than Thomas. But then again this board is full of idiots who did not appreciate NFL QBs so nothing surprises me.[Edited on September 2, 2013 at 11:15 AM. Reason : We won by 26 over a team that went 9-3 last year. The sky is falling. ]
9/2/2013 11:14:17 AM
and if it turns out thomas can't get the passing game going, doeren will alter the game plan to focus on our three terrific running backs and we'll run a run heavy offense. that's the beauty of having a coach who knows what he's doing and how to get the most out of his personnel.
9/2/2013 11:24:51 AM
The only people who thought Thomas ever had a shot of starting over Mitchell are the same idiots who thought glennon would be better than Wilson
9/2/2013 11:41:15 AM
Mitchell was obviously more prepared with the first team. His passes and play calling were much more crisp and in sync with the WRs.Not saying Thomas can't improve, but he will never be the wild card athele that Mitchell is...
9/2/2013 12:12:04 PM
gah, are people STILL bitching about Glennon vs Wilson? let it go, people

Vote for Sade: http://www.lougrozaaward.com/13SOTW14 FG 4 XP7 of 9 touchbacks on KO
9/3/2013 10:17:16 AM
Way too soon for people to be ripping Thomas. At least let him take some 1st team rep this week and see how he responds against Richmond. If he is still way out of sync on Saturday, then we can all start complaining. Also what are the chances that Mitchell is back on the short end of the recovery timeframe (i.e. 4 weeks?). Sucks that we definitely won't have him for Clemson, but we were going to lose that game anyhow. It'd be great to have him as we start playing the other mediocre teams in the ACC.
9/3/2013 10:42:01 AM
9/3/2013 10:51:10 AM
^^ Everything I've read is 6 weeks as a minimum, unfortunately.
9/3/2013 10:55:19 AM
We must be the only ones voting in that poll.Sade with 141 votes, the other 2 guys have 11 votes combined.
9/3/2013 4:30:38 PM
I'd expect Colorado fans to vote a little since they won, but San Diego St lost 40-19 to Eastern Illinois.
9/3/2013 4:46:34 PM
re: ripping thomashe looks raw; i think part of the problem was the offense being set up for mitchell, and the team having troubling adjusting. that's not the best sign of things, but i think it's a reasonable explanation. i say give him a game or two to settle into an offense that's set up for him for a week or two.crap situation all around though. ironically my dad and i were discussing how everyone seemed well organized and clicking (before mitchell got hurt) in comparison to some previous seasons. i hope they can pick things back up this week. one thing that scares me: running shirreffs every single play he was put in. it's the very definition of insanity; not because he can't run the ball (he can) but let's try to be at least a little less predictable
9/3/2013 5:41:30 PM
i mean ... sherrifs ran the ball almost 10 times and still almost got 4 yards a carry ....for being "predictable," that's pretty fucking solid.after the first 4 times even skip holtz knew he was going to run it everytime]
9/3/2013 6:58:21 PM
I think they stopped him for a loss 1 time and they basically did an all out blitz on the play.
9/3/2013 7:02:16 PM
i guess the high-hat loop that was running in the background during the broadcast was intentional? does raycom plan on doing that all season?
9/3/2013 7:17:37 PM
I honestly think mitchell could have had a cam newton style impact and lead us to be acc contenders. dd is a master at that type of offense similar to gus malzone and it would have just been the perfect storm in the acc because it will take teams a season or two to figure out how to coach against dd. the real sad thing is that this is mitchells only year. maybe brisset will be better.

9/3/2013 9:21:41 PM
Where are the ncsuftw1 cliff notes video
9/3/2013 9:26:18 PM
Coach has referred to this season as "the year without Jacoby" so I'm betting he's quite good
9/3/2013 9:33:49 PM
State really hasnt had a 1,000 yard rusher since T.A.??!!
9/3/2013 9:34:28 PM
^^coach never said that. or at least he didn't say it in the article that used that as a title. writer took some liberties.
9/3/2013 9:41:56 PM
only because we've had a stable of running backs approach. andre brown and baker were both 1000 yard type guys but they split carries.
9/3/2013 10:09:55 PM
lots of teams have that and still have 1,000 yard rushers, and in some cases, multiple ones (see Bama, Arkansas, Tennessee, etc)
9/3/2013 10:14:29 PM
I may be wrong, but I believe the announcers in the FSU game last night said Warrick Dunn was FSU's last 1000 yard rusher.
9/3/2013 10:20:56 PM
yeah, seems like they have had a crazy drought too. Maybe Leon Washington did it, but aside from that... Booker?
9/3/2013 10:26:35 PM
9/3/2013 10:51:23 PM
its richmond. of course he will look better.
9/4/2013 1:43:54 AM
and as good as mitchell looked, he had no downfield attempts. there was never a 3rd and long so the smith slant was a 10 yard throw and the only real pass he tried. everything else was swing and screen game but those throws were fast and accurate even for short throws.
