Only way I see that being plausible is if some stranger picks that up, sets it in front of the weird bag, near the mail box just to put it out of the way.... On the crowd side of the railing it could wrap it around the mail box, and destroy the funny bag.Idk. Seems like that other bag would be a stretch. Its also possible the bomb is not even there yet, and was put next to the railing/mailbox.

so did the phones go down in boston because of overload or did some dick think it was a good idea to cut communication
4/16/2013 11:25:05 PM
Rainbox 6 dropped in and Noonan used his gadgets to kill cell service.[Edited on April 16, 2013 at 11:27 PM. Reason : d]
4/16/2013 11:25:53 PM
Overload.
4/16/2013 11:26:18 PM
Could have also been intentionally cut off so as to prevent subsequent cell-phone initiated explosions.
4/16/2013 11:46:49 PM
RCIED wha????
4/16/2013 11:51:40 PM
RCIED = RC IED = Remote Controlled IED[Edited on April 16, 2013 at 11:54 PM. Reason : eh, radio/remote, close enough]
4/16/2013 11:52:25 PM
radio controlled IED
4/16/2013 11:53:09 PM
radio controlled improvised explosive device.
4/16/2013 11:54:18 PM
yeah I thought communication blackout was well within the ability of metro police
4/16/2013 11:55:42 PM
Thats what CNN was saying happened that they cut the towers off for awhile till everything was locked down. That bag beside the mailbox is pretty accurate in terms of the size that would be needed with a pressure cooker like this.that has a timer on it as well.
4/17/2013 12:06:15 AM
dont pressure cookers require some type of power source
4/17/2013 12:07:54 AM
yeah they probably do not get the most expensive pressure cooker to make a bomb
4/17/2013 12:09:50 AM
yes, but i would think you could easily swap out a cell phone inside the main portion with some type of powder or liquid fuel underneath some shrapnel and when that circuit is triggered it would send the spark causing ignition.

[Edited on April 17, 2013 at 12:23 AM. Reason : nvm, picture sucked]
4/17/2013 12:15:34 AM
the only problem with the cell phone theory is why you gonna carry a bomb around in a bag on you knowing that if someone dials the wrong number you will be blown to bits? what if whoever had the number last has bad credit and has bill collectors calling?
4/17/2013 12:15:45 AM
Thank you for the huge-ass picture of a pressure cooker for those of us that have never been to a store, kitchen, kitchenstorewebsite, or attended a garage sale. Very helpful
4/17/2013 12:19:18 AM
^^ That's not exactly how it works. There's a little more to it than that.^^^^Yeah there are a ton of ways to remotely command detonate a bomb...cell phone, walkie-talkie, garage door opener, long-range cordless telephone, etc...and all kinds of other trickier stuff that I won't talk about here.^^^^^^ You're thinking a slow-cooker (a "crock-pot")...this is a pressure cooker. They make them where they're just a really stout cooking pot with a strong lid that locks on with lugs. Like I said in an earlier post when we were talking about low vs high explosives, low explosives (black powder, etc) can be used for bombs, but they need to be confined (pipe bomb, pressure cooker, etc) to generate a violent explosion. That's the purpose of the pressure cooker.[Edited on April 17, 2013 at 12:21 AM. Reason : ]

Something that bothers me'after seeing more pictures... That scorch mark was far from when most of the carnage was. Wonder if its unrelated. For some reason, I'm compelled to want to known what happened, now. Instead of waiting.
4/17/2013 12:21:47 AM
This is a pressure cooker.
4/17/2013 12:25:45 AM
4/17/2013 12:29:06 AM
Looks exactly like the bag I pointed out in the pic. Must be the culprit.
4/17/2013 12:30:18 AM
I'll bet that left picture is the lid, with the ripped part just to the right of the hand being where one of the locking lugs was, and that fitting being the overpressure safety valve (which obviously wouldn't be able to vent anywhere near quickly enough to prevent rupturing due to a bomb--it's designed to cope with getting it too hot on a stove).
4/17/2013 12:31:39 AM
Except what if that was from the other site
4/17/2013 12:32:06 AM
its the nature of the beast.closure.and yes, anything with an electric current from a battery that is triggered can essentially be used.C4 gives a dark smoke plume shown herehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwyniA5ryhYTannerite is much more readily available and has a white plume but takes some kind of impact to ignitehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBMEpzN0oy8and finally TATP which is the most likely culprithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZKgje_J1wQ
4/17/2013 12:34:18 AM
and that looks like a locking lug on a pressure cooker.
4/17/2013 12:34:36 AM
Think they'll ever find who did this? It'd be so easy to get away with it. But also, maybe hard with all the cameras these days
4/17/2013 12:36:18 AM
I think that bomb forensics are so fucking good post-Iraq that they'll catch the culprit(s).[Edited on April 17, 2013 at 12:44 AM. Reason : and yeah, pics/vids of everything nowadays]
4/17/2013 12:38:38 AM
I'm sure they will. Somebody probably caught something. Everyone has phones with cameras on them. A big even like like, I doubt any second went undocumented. How long did it take them to track down McVeigh? If I remember right, the best lead they had was the axle with a VIN on it. Other than that, they were scratching their heads.
4/17/2013 12:42:16 AM
I wonder if well learn about them after their suicide is revealed. Fucking coward!Blown off limbs, shoes connected to feet resting behind a dead woman's head, blood everywhere, shit can't be unseen. I can't imagine actually being there and seeing it in the real. I'd probably would've broke down crying and been useless help. .
4/17/2013 12:48:14 AM
be glad you live in the USAin some countries this is an everyday thing.
4/17/2013 12:50:27 AM
True. It sucks. And I'm sorry our troops have to deal with these type of images daily.

when i'm out in public, i assume 100% of what i do can/will be seen/recordedonly practical use for me is not to pick my nose or scratch my butt, but if i was gonna bomb a group of people, i'd either be pretty paranoid about that, or be crazy enough to not give a shit
4/17/2013 1:09:39 AM
Shit I pick my butt all the time

highly unlikely to be tatp or any organic peroxide in my opinion. too difficult to work with.
4/17/2013 1:54:23 AM
I walk around Boston all the time with a backpack... its not uncommon. That being said, a regular size backpack couldn't have held the pressure cooker. I thought they mentioned it being a duffle bag now at this point, no?Surreal situation. We weren't able to contact people from work at the race because they cut cell service for a while.[Edited on April 17, 2013 at 6:30 AM. Reason : ]
4/17/2013 6:26:17 AM
Myth. They did not cut any cell service off. Cellular networks were undated with request, ATT even eased up their wifi network access to help with the amount of call traffic.

twist: that quote is the media
4/17/2013 8:00:33 AM
"Lid of pressure cooker found on roof near scene of marathon bombings" now reported by CNNI wonder if this has any relation to the "guy on the rooftop patio" (see page 6) or if the lid of the bomb was blown sky high and landed on a nearby rooftop
4/17/2013 8:15:02 AM
probably was blown sky high.
