I came across that abbreviated tuning guide that I was talking about- it is pretty simple while giving you a lot of very good tuning advice.

also, I think this is how remote racing should have been done in the first place:

http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=185890

although, I wish they had more options for information to be displayed, I like that it automatically runs it for you (I always forget to go in and start a new race)... this should make getting $$ a bit easier!

PS- that is a link for a widget for bspec racing that allows you to start it up, and it will automatically start races for you, and you can set how it wants to run the races based on several factors:

Quote :
"# Balance my driver usage by XP
# Balance my driver usage by Cr
# Always/Never use drivers from specified friends
# Use Random friend drivers, or Reciprocate
# Choose what race length option to use "

last week i went back to doing seasonals for the first time since I got the game... is it just me or have some of them gotten much easier? a few of the races don't have any max tuning/PP/HP limits, just info on the typical power of the opponents' cars

they lifted the strict restrictions, reduced the payout, and made them repeatable.

^you're confusing two different things. The current races that are updated/added are 5 race groups using the same type of car. What ^^he was talking about are the bonus races that we used to have. They're not the same thing. And IMO they suck b/c they're ridiculously easy

yeah but no one has access to the old bonus races anymore, so that's moot. i was combining the two. the seasonals now used to be unrestricted entirely, now have PP limits that don't really make them hard still.

seasonal bonus race (old) - one car choice, can only mod to meet strict HP and weight settings, everything else is game. typically ranged in difficulty from being moderate (lower payout) to harder (high payout). can only get first place credits and exp once (1).

seasonal bonus race (newer) - one car choice, unlimited modding. result in dramatically reduced difficulty overall. payout scheme and repeatability the same.

seasonal 'bonus' races - mini series races, unlimited modding, limited to car make, type, or certain drive trains. dramatically lower payout. not very difficult. fully repeatable for exp and credits

seasonal 'bonus' races (current) - mini series races, PP limited, else unlimited modding. again restricted to car make, type, or certain drive trains, lower payout but have been remarkably ok recently. fully repeatable.

i for one would like to see a monthly or bi monthly or for real life holidays a bonus race of the old style (strict or not) for both a car experience and a nice hot wallet injection. but other than that the new series have been VERY entertaining. (Kei car and the Lambo events have been great)

there are at least 2 current series (sport pickup and 4wd) that are completely unlimited (other than class=pickup or drivetrain=AWD). not sure about the others

I started doing 10-15 lap races around High Speed Ring with a bunch of people every Monday night. They do the races from around 8-11pm and people are constantly coming and going. But there's always at least 12 people racing so it makes for a lot of fun! Here are 2 pics from the races from this past Monday:

bttt

just spotted this in the News box in game, found more info online:
Quote :
"Up until the Singapore Grand Prix Sebastian Vettel had earned 309 points in this years Formula 1 season, placing him 124 points ahead of Jenson Button.

There are 5 races remaining including the Japan Grand Prix, but because the drivers points are allocated in the order of 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1, for Button to win over Vettel he would have to win all of the remaining races. Vettel on the other hand only needs one more point in the next 5 races. Even if Vettel does not earn a point in the Japan Grand Prix, if Button does not come in first, Vettel’s championship title will be locked in.

If Sebastian Vettel becomes champion in the F1 Japan Grand Prix on Sunday, October 9, Gran Turismo 5 will give everyone who logs into the game a “Red Bull X2010 S. Vettel” to commemorate.

We will announce on gran-turismo.com when the gift will be given out. The gift is limited to one per account. This is a great opportunity to receive the ultimate racing machine created by Gran Turismo and Red Bull. We hope you’ll take part in the celebration!"

^Other good advice, after doing the licenses, is to do the online seasonal races. The cash payouts for those races are huge (most are $500k+ for 5 lap races).

I saw this thread was bumped, and the X2010 news is good however this news is even better (and is the reason I thought it was bumped actually):

"Big Gran Turismo 5 Update Lets You Drive From the Cockpit of Every Car
You'll also be able to save your progress mid-race so it can be resumed at a later time.

By Chris Pereira, 10/05/2011

Timed in such a way that it's almost going head-to-head with Microsoft's upcoming Forza Motorsport 4, Polyphony Digital is set to deliver a major update and new DLC for the newly-discounted Gran Turismo 5.

As of this week, the PlayStation 3's signature racing sim can be had for $39.99. That $20 in savings will come in handy quite soon -- new downloadable content is expected out in the "coming week" which adds new vehicles, tracks, and more.

Also coming in the next few weeks is a free, major update for GT5. It adds and changes a number of things, including the introduction of 11 new NASCAR vehicles from the 2011 season, reduced load times when entering a race, more responsive menus, and new AI settings for Arcade mode.

Two new features in particular will be much-welcome: the update will allow players to pause a long race and save their progress so it can be returned to later.
Some people might find it a worthless addition, but for others who can't afford to sit in front of their PS3 for extended periods of time, this will make it possible to complete those races without having to leave the system running.

Also new is something that many will argue should have been in the game in the first place: interior views for every car in the game. As it stands, only a select number of cars could be driven from the inside. You can chalk that up to Gran Turismo boss Kazunori Yamauchi's perfectionism, but he seems to have eased up on that in light of all the requests for this to be added. The announcement notes that many of these interior views won't look as good or perfect as the high-quality ones that were included with the game at launch. Unfortunate as that may be -- although it's expected -- at least the option is now there for those who wish to take advantage of it.

Other new features include the ability to adjust weather conditions, the addition of customizable driver avatars that can be placed next to a car in Photo mode, an expansion of shuffle race mode, more customization options for online races, bonuses for frequent players, and support for the Logitch G25 and G27 racing wheels.

"The coming Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2 update is an update that contains the feedback from the users playing GT5 online every day," said Yamauchi. "We have added cars such as the newest NASCAR race cars, but many of the updates are those that improve usability and expand the field of game play. I believed from the initial release of Gran Turismo 5 that it would be the users that would make the game grow thereafter, and we added things like interior views for the standard models because there was a lot of request for it from our users. You could say that this update is the shape and form of GT5 that was created through the opinions of our fans."

There's no exact date for the DLC or update. All indications are that it will be out sometime before the end of the month."

I'm hoping that the DLC will be for tracks, but it could be for cars instead (or both even). Hopefully they don't cost much (if there's a fee at all).

I wished I still had a ps3 just for this game, but I got tired of waiting. Its an amazing looking game considering its an old game engine. I've had to replace it with shift 2 as of late, but no where near the same experience that I remember from the GT days.

Mmk, I'm getting the swing of things. Went through all the B and A license tests last night without too much difficulty.

I still feel like the turning sensitivity is too damn high. I could breathe on the joystick and turn left. What settings can I adjust to make my cornering and turning better?

I don't run a league with TWW'ers anymore. I got sick of the effort I put into things only to have 3-5 people show up race day due to lack of interest.

However I do run in a few other series so if anyone is interested shoot me a PM and maybe you can join.
