because I'm moving to Alabama in two months!which brings me to my next question.... do I need to let them know now?
5/27/2010 2:54:28 PM
Yeah, but I quit LifeStyle because I'm moving. My membership expires in a month. Then I'll just have the work gym, which has some weights. But a boxing gym would be motivating. Plus, the boxing gyms around here aren't really that $$$, at least compared to similar workout facilities.[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 2:57 PM. Reason : LFF, SORRY!]
5/27/2010 2:56:04 PM
holy shitdo not laugh at me but i was totally unaware that there was a lifetime and a lifestyle fitness.when i read i automatically read lifetimeDOH
5/27/2010 2:56:51 PM
^^^^ boxing is no substitute at all for weight training. There isn't really any way I know of to get all the benefits of weight training without, you know, lifting weights (or at LEAST using strength training machines). If you get bored by Pumping Iron-style weight lifting, what about Crossfit?
5/27/2010 2:57:58 PM
If you really think about it, most sports don't "build" muscle. Building muscle involves loading the muscle until failure causing hypertrophy. What sports do this?
5/27/2010 2:58:21 PM
Jello Wrestling Causes Muscle Hypertrophy
5/27/2010 2:58:56 PM
yeah in my weiner
5/27/2010 3:00:38 PM
so packman is the resident pt?
5/27/2010 3:00:51 PM
you don't actually have to take your muscle to failure to cause hypertrophy...that's actually not good to do on a continual basis
5/27/2010 3:01:24 PM
5/27/2010 3:06:44 PM
aw, you said something nicemaybe now I'll help you learn how to do a muscle-upmaybe
5/27/2010 3:07:59 PM
nice.ive been working out for a while, im thinking of hiring a PT to take my training to the next level.
5/27/2010 3:10:04 PM
5/27/2010 3:19:39 PM
well damn, get itlearning how to kip properly would help too
5/27/2010 3:30:07 PM
Yeah, that part is still a bit of a mystery, but once at the top, if you push yourself out (rather than just drop down), you can you wind up carrying the momentum like you would in a kip.
5/27/2010 4:02:43 PM

BMI is fine. If you need a number off of a chart at the doctors office to assure you youre healthy/fit youre an idiot.
5/27/2010 6:49:16 PM
BMI is fine for the vast majority of humans. If you happen to be in the tiny minority (carrying more muscle per pound BW than the average human), then body fat measurement is what you should get done. And for that, from what I know, here are 4 methods ranked in order of effectiveness/accuracy:BIAcalipersDEXAunderwater weighing
5/27/2010 7:23:41 PM
The only concern I have with BMI is that at work there was talk for a while that they'd use BMI as a basis for what health care programs people were eligible to enroll in. Luckily the cutoff was going to be "obese" rather than "overweight".[Edited on May 27, 2010 at 7:56 PM. Reason : 5'7 - 160 = overweight; 5'7 155 = allllllllllllright]

They'd just need a ripped person to walk up in there and be the exception to the rule.

^^I figure if I go ahead and post my stats for the day, then I won't eat anything else because it'll be too much trouble add it in the log and re-post it. ^I'm saving up for the weekend
5/27/2010 8:28:53 PM
I'm gonna hurry and put mine in before this initial deadline. Hope I can keep up with the weekly photo thing.I need to weigh myself, but I'm pretty sure I've gone below 170 lbs because I was trying to lose some weight around my waist the two months before the wedding. I've worn a 32" size waist since high school, but last year I ended up buying a few 33" pants after things started fitting a little tight around the waist. After actually getting serious with my diet my 32's are sometimes loose, and I bought some 31 jeans last week. I'm attempting to up my running mileage this year so I can get into half marathoning/marathoning. My goal for the summer is get my body fat % down enough to actually see my abs for the first time, improve my running, and put on some lean mass through weight training. My diet hasn't been any sort of strict category, but just a learning process of which foods I want to increase and which foods I want to decrease.I've been eating more of: spinach, broccoli, tuna, chicken, turkey, steak, olive oil, yogurt, milk, olives, almonds, cheese, whole grain bread, soy beans, avocados, bananas.I've been eating less of, or pretty much eliminated: soda, sugar, white bread, fast food, chips. These are from yesterday at the end of my honeymoon; so after a week of no home cooking and alcohol at every meal it's time to get back on track with diet and working out.I really want to improve my back, so here's a first photoand legs
5/27/2010 9:04:16 PM
damn dude you got some massive (and unusually long!) calves!!! i, personally, would like to see a pic of you from behind (like the back pic but pointing lower) but standing on your toes so we can see the calves flexed properly.[no homo][Edited on May 27, 2010 at 9:15 PM. Reason : ]
5/27/2010 9:11:08 PM
I will try to get a pic like that. And I know what you mean, I've always noticed my calves seem longer than everyone else's. I guess they are the opposite shape of a sprinters calves, but still a bit more larger than a traditional distance runner's.
5/27/2010 9:22:13 PM
Sorry to be way off subject but that dude in God's last video link is very attractive.
5/27/2010 10:34:26 PM
I cheated today... first soda I've had in months, 1 Sprite. And... I had buffalo crab ragoons. Now I'm gonna do the 150 workout 3 times over just to try and balance it out.
5/27/2010 10:40:59 PM
BMI can be a semi-decent indicator of cardiovascular fitness regardless of your BF%. Your heart doesn't really know the difference between fat and muscle; it just sees extra arteries and veins that it has to pump blood through. Also, you can look extremely lean yet have horrible arterial health.
5/27/2010 10:50:37 PM
I don't know about you guys but I've been eating like a pig lately since its my last chance before the challenge starts
5/27/2010 11:15:58 PM
I don't think I'm gonna get in on this. But, I think this is a neat thread.
5/28/2010 2:41:18 AM
^^I always eat a garbage diet. If i don't eat small meals every 3 hours my stomach will hurt for the majority of the day. I'm never hungry and if it were not for constant clock watching I could probably not eat for days.
5/28/2010 2:56:10 AM
I'm thinking of joining in on this. I need some more muscle mass. I need to get motivated though...
5/28/2010 4:11:25 AM
i was bad last night what was supposed to be 2 beers turned into 4 beers and a shot.luckily it all fit into my cals (i anticipated it), however i'm sure my macros are all outta whack, but whatever, i had fun but with all of that being said i would like to note that my stomach is almost an inch and a half smaller today because of dehydration.ahhhh water weight why do you tease me?i have a picture ill post later --[Edited on May 28, 2010 at 6:05 AM. I once again had congratulatory sweets yesterday so I'm not even going to go into that... butttt I had a healthy dinner quinoa and black beans with bell peppers and mushrooms..and I just want to give myself a pat on the back -- I was doing the jackknife exercise on the stability ball and some dude that was having a PT session told the lady, "Sorry, I got distracted".. something about it being a crazy looking exercise. The personal trainer told him that the jackknife was really hard and she giving me props for doing it so well oh and I officially cancelled my LFF membership sad day

I started my fitness bootcamp this AM. Definitely a hard quick workout (hour long). We did arms this morning and HOLY SHIT my arms aren't in shape (I've been focusing on legs more for my running and biking)My sister is trying to help me with my goal and has determined that I need to do at least 2 hours a day of some kind of exercise. Three days a week (hour in the am) I have my fitness bootcamp. I guess then it'd be doing an hour run or bike in the evening, and then on the days I'm not doing bootcamp... Bikram (if I can keep affording it) or a longer bike or run. I'm just not sure my body is up for 2 hours a day..... thoughts?
5/28/2010 9:06:23 AM
I would ease into it if you haven't been doing anythingstart with just an hour a day...maybe do some LIGHT walking in the evening and just build upAlso, explain this fitness bootcamp to mewas it an hour of UPPER body...or just arms...if it was just arms, I have issues...[Edited on May 28, 2010 at 9:20 AM. I would say load up on protein if you're going to be doing 2 hours a day, but I would also say listen to begonias or PackMan first and above everyone else
5/28/2010 9:18:23 AM
^^ I've been doing cardio mainly. At least 5 days a week of running/swimming/cycling. Just not 2 hours a day 7 days a week. I'm probably just being a wimp
5/28/2010 9:20:09 AM
Nobody should work out 7 days a weekEveryone needs 1-2 full days off each weekI'd let someone get away with 1 full day off if the other day was active recovery...light walk, foam rolling/massage, stretching

I'm about to totally blow my diet with four days of fun on a booze cruise to the bahamas. Will keep up my workout, but having champagne now.Work hard, fools!

My girlfriend is out of town for the weekend, so I'm going to destroy my body working out.
