his nickname is Jo Jo

does that mean we're gonna get Keary Colbert back to have the KC and Jo Jo WR tandem?

I expected him to go 5th round or later, but he could be a good kick returner and play some WR, and maybe even some Wildcat QB?

Seems early but time will tell

I wouldn't mind it in the 5th. I don't like it in the 3rd. I REALLY don't like moving up to do it.

[Edited on April 23, 2010 at 9:52 PM. Reason : trading up is a reach though]

He passed for 10,000 yards and rushed for 4,000

I still think they reached for him and probably could've gotten him with the 112th pick

Still some guys from small schools have done well, like Jerry Rice!

Edwards is a legit choice for wildcat, I suppose. But still, they could've easily gotten him tomorrow.

it will at least make for interesting conversation tonight

had we not traded up, the only Panthers draft relevant discussion would be "hey Clausen is a pretty good pick at 48" and "The Lafell kid looks pretty good"

Why the fuck did we not draft any defensive ends or tackles yet. I hope we have some o-lineman in the upcoming rounds and a OLB

interesting

Quote :
"Armanti is the son of Deborah Anderson and Freddie Edwards. At birth, Edwards weighed 4 pounds 11 ounces and was delivered 10 days late.[6] In September 2006, Freddie Edwards was convicted of a 2005 murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison."

also interesting, and less depressing

Quote :
"03/23/2010 - PRO DAY RESULTS: Last year it was West Virginia QB Pat White who was all the rage leading up to the draft due to his versatile skills and ability to run the Wildcat formation. This year, it's Appalachian State QB Armanti Edwards who brings similar talents to the table. Edwards, who led the Mountaineers to a national title in his freshman year, truly burst onto the national scene as a sophomore in 2007 when he led Appalachian State to a historic upset of host Michigan. He has continued to develop since then, and now finds himself a potential mid-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He's going to be one of those guys that will give defensive coordinators gray hairs trying to defend him, and he showed why with an exceptional workout at Appalachian State's pro day on March 16. Ravens receivers coach Jim Hostler and Eagles QB coach James Urban were on hand to watch Edwards and five other players work out indoors on FieldTurf. Edwards (5-foot-11, 192 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 and 4.41 seconds, had a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 3-inch broad jump, a 4.19-second short shuttle, a 6.74-second three-cone drill and did 13 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds. He also did position drills as both a quarterback and receiver. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com"

Interesting last pick. It will be very interesting how they use him. But he is very athletic and gives the defenses something to consider if we use him right. But to take him there is interesting. I would tend to believe that he would be there tomorrow.

Just gave Patriots their 2nd round for next year....

they love making stupid decisions. last year they trade away this years first rounder in a talent rich draft for brown. then somehow they get lucky this year and clausen falls to them, so what do they do? trade away another high pick for a projected 200+ pick!

In fairness to the Panthers, they have probably seen Edwards and know more about Edwards more than any other NFL team, just based on location, so if they think he's worthy of a top 90 pick and once again mortgaging the future, it might work out

hey, we still have our 1st round pick next year!

I bet the Panthers are betting it'll be the 64th pick.

Until they trade it away to move up in the 6th round.

i would imagine they put Edwards at WR with Clausen giving solid QB depth

with those numbers he posted at his Pro Day, put him and motion and there will be some matchup issues...as long as he can catch, which i have no idea about

Quote :
"48. Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
This is a great situation for Jimmy Clausen. Unlike Sam Bradford, he's not part of a rebuilding project. The Panthers are ready to win now, and all they were missing was a talented quarterback. If Clausen is half as good as Mel Kiper, Ron Jaworski, Steve Young, etc. thinks he is, the Panthers will be a perennial Super Bowl contender. (Pick Grade: A)

78. Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU
A weapon for Jimmy Clausen. Brandon LaFell is a really talented receiving prospect. His only issue are his small hands, but that's not a big deal in the middle of the third round. This is a great value pick. (Pick Grade: A)

89. Armanti Edwards, CatQB/WR, Appalachian State
Do the Panthers plan on running the Wildcat? They certainly have the personnel to do so now. I really am not a fan of this pick; I learned my lesson last year with Pat White. This would be a "D", but Carolina gave up a 2011 second-rounder to get him. (Pick Grade: F) "

I would have preferred taking Colt McCoy over Clausen!

Great pickup from LSU, and picking up Armanti Edwards makes up for taking Clausen!

Now we need a standout Defensive Tackle!!
