I still owe you a 13 second car

scion version is exceptionally fuglier than subaru version.
3/11/2013 3:15:31 PM
^^depending on the type of owner, they're different enough I think. If the "premium" Toyota version had been sold in the US instead of the Scion version I would be more inclined to agree.

^it also has a "low-er rent" interior, and far fewer options available.

BRZ STI "announced"http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1086005_2014-subaru-brz-sti-teasedApparently it's looking like there still will not be FI involved. I don't understand. Throw a turbo in and they would absolutely dominate that market segment. From everything I've read the FA20 is a capable setup as well.
8/5/2013 6:19:57 PM
What does that have to do with toyota
8/5/2013 9:32:25 PM
You should go back to the previous pages and ctrl+f "brz"...
8/5/2013 9:59:17 PM
So what you're saying is this thread should have died a long time ago
8/5/2013 11:06:00 PM
^have you just checked out from the automotive scene recently? Recently you've acted like the least informed Garage regular ^^That's a JDM only model, and is nothing but a bunch of overpriced BS. Who the fuck deemed it necessary to put 6 pot fixed caliper Brembos on a 200 hp sports car?
8/6/2013 8:21:19 AM
^ Damn. I read about the supposed release yesterday morning when everyone was proclaiming a real STI version. Seems 12 hours later everyone is reneging and disclosing the tS or w/e.I didn't actually read the article I posted. I just grabbed the first google news link a planted it in the post.

One of the most prevalent posters over at FT86club.com had his stock catalytic convertors (2) fail in his BRZ. And while the dealership is on his side SOA is refusing to cover their replacement
8/7/2013 2:40:34 PM
Nice, a car you have to beat the breaks off of to get anything out of it and it can't handle it.
8/8/2013 2:00:17 AM
*brakes
8/8/2013 6:02:30 AM
^^the brakes are actually one of it's best attributes. They're pretty beefy!
8/8/2013 9:46:10 AM
I wish I could explain how not surprised SOA doesn't want to cover that.
8/8/2013 1:19:36 PM
what does SOA base their rejection of the claim on? Is his car modded or stock? Does that matter?

[Edited on August 8, 2013 at 1:59 PM. Reason : ha]

I'm positive they simply said "he has obviously hit redline, stressing the car. Parts failed due to user error."
8/8/2013 2:53:09 PM
^yeah probably^^^drivetrain is stock as far as I know. He works for a tuner shop and has put about 1k track miles on his BRZ (note: not race miles). Oh, and did I mention he's on his third engine? The EPA requires manufacturers to cover catalytic convertors for 8 years, 80k miles. They're looking into legal action.
8/8/2013 4:25:53 PM
wow. OkaySo Engine blows once. Shit happens... sometimes... Shame on the carEngine blows twice? Shame on you. Call it quits before you strike out with #3.
8/8/2013 7:50:34 PM
Manufactures should build engines strong enough to go past redline. It should be a safety feature not an indicator of blow up point.
8/8/2013 10:02:08 PM
Kinda like the "low oil pressure" light coming on right as your bearings are destroying themselves or just before the engine seizes up.[Edited on August 9, 2013 at 12:38 AM. Reason : .]
8/9/2013 12:38:09 AM
Yeah the no oil pressure light is what it should be called.
8/9/2013 5:41:57 AM
8/9/2013 7:36:04 AM
At least of this guy's engine failures is attributed to the above mentioned TSB. The engine seized after DI seal (and subsequent injector) failure.
8/9/2013 8:37:30 AM
^^, no not at all.
8/9/2013 3:15:09 PM
Oops...yeah didn't see the bold part. Time to move on for that guy.
8/9/2013 4:47:42 PM
well the unfortunate thing is it is not his personal car. It is his tuner shop's car I believe. The guy in question who drives it all the time has a GPW S2000 CR as his personal vehicle

That was going around the auto show circuit over 6 months ago. Now I'm hearing talk that it's been cancelled. I'm indifferent either way.

Instructed an FRS driver at an AutoX in Atlanta over the weekend and got to take him for a run in it to show him a few things. I had test driven the car before but hadn't had a chance to really push one...still only 8/10th's or so since it wasn't my car, but more than I could do on the street in a test drive. The power of the car was just like the test drive...lacking, but I think only because I'm used to my M3's grunt nowadays. It's not that 200hp is too low, it's that the way its delivered in the FRS just isn't that fun, or something to that effect. I think a tuned one could be a blast. However, as far as handling goes, man what a car! I loved the steering when driving the car hard, and had a blast in the slaloms. I had a lot of trouble with the tail coming out in hairpins, but the car reacted predictably when it did, and it was on the factory tires so I attribute the lack of grip to them. It's still a little tight for me with a helmet on though, when I turn my head to the left to look ahead the helmet bangs off the roof where it curves down towards the windows.

there are a few BRZs here at VIR today. 2 of them are super charged and on race gas and a fairly formidable. fun to mess with

9/26/2013 8:51:33 AM
is there room for a straight 6 in this bay?
9/26/2013 9:27:24 AM
Yes. Someone's already working on a Supra TT install. Might actually already be done with it, haven't checked back in a while on his build thread.
9/26/2013 9:39:38 AM
I mean... Cool idea but heavy engine with much higher center of gravity means it's gotta be a drag car.I wouldn't mind a flat 6 tho.
9/26/2013 9:43:43 AM
Agreed. I'm not sure if a flat 6 would fit though. Obviously the best engine swap for this car is an LSX, lol.
9/26/2013 10:49:55 AM
EZ30D is only .75" longer than the EJ257. same width.not sure about the engine in the 86 right now, but probably near the same dimensions
9/26/2013 12:35:01 PM
So, I drove one..A SUBLIME chassis, one of the most balanced I've ever driven, shock damping is spot on, just amazing. Steering feel actually kind of sucks but it's weighted beautifully. Biggest surprise was how stable it was at speed, not really susceptible to crosswinds. Riding a turtle might be faster, pretty sure the trash pick up is.
9/27/2013 1:05:40 AM
did you drive a BRZ or FRS? The suspension tuning is slightly different.
