^^clearly its a lot harder for us to win 1 of our 35 games per year than it is for Herb to get past the Sweet 16 for the first time in his career
3/13/2008 5:58:55 PM
still has us in
3/13/2008 6:24:01 PM
Did the refs also cause the 2nd half drought?Don't act like Herb never finished last in the ACC. I like how you threw in the whole 12th place thing.
3/13/2008 6:47:03 PM
i know this is the ASU Thread, but i'd like to ask a Herb question....does anybody know how many times Herb got bounced in the first round of the ACC Tourney?what website could i find such information?
3/13/2008 6:51:28 PM
wikipedia knows everything.
3/13/2008 7:00:41 PM
Unless I overlooked something (I just glanced quickly), Herb lost his first game in 2001 and 2006. Both of those losses were in the quarterfinals, though. He never got bounced on Thursday.Year-by-year brackets dating back to 1979:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACC_Men's_Basketball_Tournament

^^ we need more of that kind of love around here!BTW, are you Engin's girlfriend?
3/13/2008 9:32:56 PM
Damn, nearly every bubble team lost.... I really think ASU will get in over Oregon, esp. if USC plays UCLA close.
3/13/2008 11:07:22 PM
i dont think engin has a girlfriend

3/14/2008 8:43:51 AM
Oh nevermind a couple of 8th place finishes and damn I feel so much better!
3/14/2008 9:22:55 AM
You don't have to like Herb, but don't act like finishing last with this team should be compared to the years that Herb finished 8th... the only comparable season was Herb's 13-18 year the year before Hodge got here... that was abysmal and probably should have resulted in his firing... To be fair to Sendek, though, he did a tremendous job turning it around after that season and did a very good job from then until the time he left for ASU.*** Oh, and I personally think that Sendek NEEDS to be brough up when evaluating Lowe's performance at this point. We (as in the entire fanbase not myself or anyone in particular) wanted Sendek gone because we wanted to move to the next level, which we didn't think he could provide. We didn't want to become the laughingstock of the entire ACC within 2 years. That is NOT why a change was wanted.I'm not saying I want Lowe fired, but I'm certainly not one who is blindly thinking "the future is bright."[Edited on March 14, 2008 at 10:03 AM. Reason : x]

I hate the fact that this thread exists because Herb is a decent guy, just not the right fit for NC State. Certain people think it's funny to rub the whole Herb situation into the rest of our faces, when in fact he's where he was the majority of his time he was at State - either on the bubble or on the outside looking in. He's no longer here and nothing will ever change that.Besides, I think Lowe needs his own players in the program. The "stars" of this team were recruited for Herb's system, so I think it's premature to judge Lowe in year 2. Let him get his players in so we can see what he can do with them. He's a young coach, much like Herb was when he got to State, and young coaches will make mistakes, let's just hope he can learn from them and adapt.[Edited on March 14, 2008 at 10:13 AM. Reason : ]
3/14/2008 10:12:10 AM
what style of offense did Sid use last season when two of Herb's "stars" (Costner and McCauley) averaged 17ppg and 15ppg?was it the Princeton/Motion offense?
3/14/2008 10:56:50 AM
There were lots of chemistry problems, Costner's lingering injury, etc. which contributed to the offensive woes. It wasn't the offense in and of itself.
3/14/2008 12:05:08 PM
I wonder how Herb would've done with last year's team. Probably only NIT. Can't see a reason why it would've been different.
3/14/2008 12:12:30 PM
He'd probably have a couple different players (assuming he never left). Well, looks like everyone is jumping on the ASU bandwagon, especially since there were so many losses by bubble teams yesterday. The MSM was all over the OTB call and were saying it would be a shame to possibly end their tourney run on a bad call. PAC 10 will get 6, I'd have to say Oregon is out.
3/14/2008 12:16:38 PM
ASU should be in. With bigtime Top 10 wins over Stanford and Xavier, 2 wins over UofA and a 9-9 record in what is the consensus best conference this year they are sitting pretty.Their RPI on the surface isn't great by any stretch, but it's only that way because they beat sucky cupcakes instead of less sucky cupcakes. Either way, they're still cupcakes and would be W's regardless...Yesterday would have locked it...[Edited on March 14, 2008 at 12:49 PM. Reason : x]
3/14/2008 12:48:21 PM
why wouldnt their loss yesterday make them 9-10 in the conferencein which case they'd have neither 20 wins nor a >= .500 conference record]
3/14/2008 12:56:35 PM
the only reason ASU is still Bubble In is because tons more bubble teams have lost in their respective tournaments.what hurts them is losing 10 of their last 15. they're playing their worst basketball of the season right now.
3/14/2008 1:03:58 PM
herb sendek team playing their worst basketball of the season at the end of the season?surely you jest.
3/14/2008 1:14:09 PM
Not Really.-Sweet 16 team.We SHOULD have fired herb the year before Hodge got here. Without a doubt. 100%. Dragging it on longer pretty much put us in the situation we are in now.Which suggests, to me at least, that we need to clean house within the entire department starting with Lee Fowler.

3/14/2008 1:32:00 PM
^ While that's true... we did have most of the NCAA games won that we wound up losing in a collapse. If games were 30:00-35:00 long Herb would probably still have a job here

yeah, moral victory.....and I suppose when ASU wins 20 more games against us, then you can talk...... so....see you in....NEVER years!
3/16/2008 5:48:37 PM
Go away. You are like the 4th best Wildcats this year at best.
3/16/2008 5:50:10 PM
UofA got lucky. face itthey finished 2 games under .500 in conference, finished with 14 losses, 3 of their wins were over Oregon State (possibly the worst team in major conference histroy), finished 7th out of 10 teams, got swept by ASU and Oregon, lost to UVa at home....it goes on and on
3/16/2008 5:50:28 PM
It's not luck.....it's called having a strong RPI and SOS.But that's ok.......bitter away
