Hey God, nice job on cleaning up the Peugeot (sp?).Does anyone know where I can get a basic zip-up jersey for under $50? The ones I've seenin that price range either don't have the back pockets or don't have vents, in which caseI'll just wear my cheaper running tech shirts.

okay so i'm going to get into doing longer distances on my bike (now that i'm riding again )but i don't have a road bike. I have a hybrid. this one actually (cept the 2.0 version)i absolutely love it - but after a 28 mile ride, my shoulders and elbows are killing me. these types of bikes aren't made to be equipped with the bars in the middle for resting my forearms right? i'm just not sure how to make it through a super long distance ride without being stiff and sore afterwards (other than moving my arms around constantly)
4/6/2010 10:42:38 AM
^Long rides are just gonna make you sore until you build up those muscles. Aerobars (the bars that you rest your elbows on) could probably be installed on that bike but are going to be just as uncomfortable, but in different places. Your core and shoulders are just not used to being actively engaged for an hour and half at a time yet.
4/6/2010 10:45:20 AM
^^ Are you referring to aero bars? You don't need those.
4/6/2010 10:51:22 AM
just suck it up until i'm used to it?
4/6/2010 11:02:38 AM
Those bikes aren't really designed for "super long rides" anyway. How level is your seat to the handlebars?EDIT: That doesn't even really look like a hybrid, just a road bike with flat bars.[Edited on April 6, 2010 at 11:06 AM. Reason : ]
4/6/2010 11:05:26 AM
http://www.touringcyclist.com/bikes/model_20003.htmlthat's what i got - cept the 2009. so it says hybrid. the tires aren't as small as the road bikes - the tire size freaks me out on road bikes honestly. my seat is the same height as my handlebars. i'd like to try to do 60 miles for the race for the cure in june - but not sure if i can handle that. ]
4/6/2010 11:16:51 AM
The tires aren't much bigger than most road bikes. In fact my road bike has those exact same tires. Most road bikes will have tires between 700-23 to 700-28.Your discomfort could be related to your seating position. Try adjusting it a bit, or take it to a local bike shop and see if they can get it properly adjusted. Also check your handlebars.http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/sport/a/bikefit.htm

the jersey you posted from nashbar is out of stock, but bonktown has nice women's full zip pearl izumi jersey for 23.99 right now. Order a size up unless you don't mind a tight eurofit because pearl runs a tad small. Probably won't last long.

don't forget about bonktown's brother, http://www.chainlove.com

Well, I do mostly downhill. I go to Snowshoe during the summer and do some races for fun. Anyone else into gravity? Here's what I've got right now:[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 2:52 PM. Reason : ]

Thanks for the jersey idea, folks. I'ma hit that shit up.
4/7/2010 4:55:54 PM
BonkTown does seem to rotate an awful lot of women's jerseys, base layers and tops. Hopefully you'll find something you like.

8 repeats of the 4.2 mile Saluda Grade climb on US 176 in Polk County today. Including descent, each circuit was 8.4 miles. Garmin Edge registered just over 68 miles and about 8800 feet of climbing. Climb started to get tiring for me during the 4th time up, but the descents were nice.
4/10/2010 8:09:38 PM
Anyone else having problems with popping tires? It seems like every other time I ride, my back tire goes flat. Had to walk miles back to my car the other day, what am I doing wrong people???
4/10/2010 8:57:25 PM
Riding near a staple factory?
4/10/2010 10:34:56 PM
^it kind of depends on the tire set up. could be as simple as a thorn stuck on your sidewall.
4/10/2010 10:35:52 PM
how old is the rear tire? not tube, but tire? remember the rear is going to wear out waaaay before the front tire.
4/11/2010 6:32:02 AM
For those of you doing the ortho. tri next weekend, the website states that if the water is below 60 they will require you to wear a wetsuit. I guess I'll have to pony up an extra forty bucks for a rental.
4/11/2010 12:55:04 PM
I should be there taking pictures. and if you want me to get you, let me know. I won't charge or anything and can send big jpegs for you to edit to your hearts desire.just give me a description, or pic of yourself, name, race no and so on so I know who to look for.....pm and we can meet just before.

^^^ I wouldn't count on it being sub 60. I have swam in a few lakes (white lake and carolina lake) the last couple weekends and although I don't have temps, I guarantee they were near 70 degrees. It was warm enough that I was comfortable swimming without a wetsuit. I'd be surprised if Lake Raleigh was much different.
4/12/2010 8:55:40 AM
^^^Thanks cheerwhiner, I'll PM you this week!^I've never done an open water swim, but I swam the course yesterday at Lake Raleigh in just swim trunks. It felt cooler than I had thought but not enough for it to require a wetsuit. What do you suggest for a suit sub $200? I figure purchasing one now would make up for having to rent four in a season.
4/12/2010 9:39:29 AM
I will post some examples of my work from the cary duathlon and you can tell me what you would like.....just need to get home first. Nothing professional but good enough for you all to enjoy...for free

^^ google Wetsuit Warehouse. I got a sleeveless wetsuit there for about $130, plus rush shipping. It fit awesomely too.

My brother got a new full sleeved orca suit from inside out sports for like ~$170?? He loves it. I bought my full-sleeved used for around $100 from a triathlon forum. If you get one, try to get in the water with it before the race because it is a different experience and it always helps to get used to it first. They say it does save the average swimmer anywhere from 10-15 seconds per 100m which is pretty significant especially on the longer swims. You guys will have to let us know how it went.
4/12/2010 2:37:02 PM
some pics as promised. if any of these are you, or you did the Cary Duo, I may have pics of you...these are my better ones
4/12/2010 5:40:32 PM
^^^^^^^I usually run around 100 PSI, which, from what I understand is about average. My tires are still pretty new, which shouldnt be the problem. When I took the tube out, I discovered that the puncture (this time!!!! ) was right where the hole for the spoke is on the wheel. The wheel itself only has a thin rubber strip around it, so I suspect that the tube could be rubbing on the edge of the hole. I'm going to take it to the shop tomorrow to see if they can do something about that. This is starting to get really annoying!
4/12/2010 5:44:14 PM

^ to the pics:I wonder if that Duke guy is the same one I see on campus always running or biking. I swear he does 2-a-days sometimes-he's running when I go to work and running when I leave. But yeah, NCSUWolfy, they're pretty hawt!

4/13/2010 6:12:20 AM
I really hate people that wear those helmets.
4/13/2010 7:39:14 AM
^how come? I know they look kinda wierd, but they have the same aerodynamic benefits as deep dish wheels in alot of cases and they can be had for much less $$$. I don't personally have one because I am cheap and I'm not gonna spend $100+ on a helmet, but if someone gave one to me, I'd wear it. It's free speed.
