My ring! It's different than most rings you find in America (it's from London, which is significant to us cause that's where my fiance is from) and he really picked out a ring that is just like me --it's simple and elegant, and isn't something you'll see everywhere. It's perfect on my finger. He just got his wedding band in the mail last week, he chose a tungsten band, which is really heavy-- but he loves it that way. Plus it was real inexpensive, men are so easy sometimes.
11/2/2008 7:10:17 PM
I like that a lot, it's different, but simple and not gaudy.
11/2/2008 7:13:29 PM
very pretty!! has an antique sort of vibe to it
11/2/2008 7:24:26 PM
Hopefully I can link from facebook:leftyisreal took me out to Irregradless and then proposed on State's campus overlooking the court of the carolinas. This is the first ring I've ever worn (not really a jewelry person) and it's taking some getting used to.
11/3/2008 7:15:53 AM
Congrats!
11/3/2008 8:12:35 AM
It's gorgeous Alee!
11/3/2008 8:24:33 AM
Alee you're acting like you're surprised or something. I totally saw this coming 3 years ago. Good choice, Mr. Lefty.
11/3/2008 8:36:58 AM

Mini related hijack: I have a white gold ring with a relatively thin band I'd like sized down half a size. Any recommendations in the N. C. State/Cary area for somewhere that can do it in about an hour?
11/8/2008 9:57:38 AM
there's a place in crabtree by the food court that can do it in an hour. if you walk in to the food court entrance from the parking deck, walk to your left. it will be on your left after the restrooms, and i believe next to a hat store.
11/8/2008 10:30:47 AM
^my family used to use the place you're referring to a lot. We didn't use them for ring resizing, but the main guy was extremely talented & one of the only people we could get to attempt what we needed done[Edited on November 8, 2008 at 11:14 AM. Reason : ]
11/8/2008 11:14:07 AM
yeah my mom uses him all the time. she kept telling me to take my ring there to have it resized b/c it'd be done with great care and quickly. they also do appraisals if anyone needs to have an outside appraisal for insuring their ring.
11/8/2008 11:25:45 AM
^^^ I love that place. I used to go get stuff done there all the time.

I think I'm gonna propose with a "joke" ring when i do just for the final test of gold-digger-ness and if she says yes anyway immediately show her the real deal.well not really a gold digger but i don't want a false yes just cause of a pretty ring.[Edited on November 10, 2008 at 8:19 AM. Reason : ya know?]
11/10/2008 8:18:15 AM
if you're worried about something like that, you probably shouldn't be proposing in the first place
11/10/2008 9:38:25 AM
11/10/2008 10:14:44 AM
I'm not really worried about the gold digger thing they don't make it passed round 1 of eliminations with me.. But, i do know some people that would say yes easier for an awesome ring then some rinky-dink little thing.
11/10/2008 10:17:58 AM
Presumably, the on the knee present the ring part is a formality to anyone with half a brain. If you don't know your girl well enough to know what level of ring she might want or might balk at, then you shouldn't be proposing.
11/10/2008 10:23:13 AM
But if she is not 100% sure, with the awesome ring she'll say yes because she wants it then maybe change her mind later. With the crappy ring, she'll talk about the issues first, before you spend a shit ton on wedding reservations and then half way through that she bails.
11/10/2008 10:26:02 AM
wootHere are the pics QTPie took when my ring got into the store, and then one I took after zorthage proposed. It's on my to-do list to take some better shots. The ring I saw and wanted was an estate piece on topazery.com that's long since gone, and so my ring is a recreation of that. Both QTPie and my fiancé worked on the design. It is so perfect. Even my dad - the type of person who hardly even registers jewelry at all, never mind paying attention to it - likes it. His words: "That looks like it could have been made any time in the past couple hundred years", and I do hope to pass it on to grandkids/whathaveyou. It's certainly got an heirloom look.
11/23/2008 8:14:37 PM
so, i wonder what happens in the end to most engagement rings.I mean, if they're not passed down in the family, do they get resold? If so, won't they still be used again? Do they become unrepairable at some point? Or is the number of people on Earth just increasing that fast that even with 100% reuse there's a strong market?
11/23/2008 8:31:29 PM
^^ your ring is BEAUTIFUL!!!!I sent QTPie a message
11/23/2008 9:09:59 PM
k ambrosia i typically could care less about rings but i realllly f'in like yours for some reason..
11/23/2008 9:35:56 PM
^, ^^Thanks to both of you ]
11/23/2008 10:17:52 PM
Mrfrog, lots of people are superstitious and don't want a "used" engagement ring so they go buy a new one from the store. What they do not know is that some stores buy used rings for very little, melt them down and use the stone in a different ring. Lots of profits for the jewelry stores, all because women want shiny things they think have been freshly dug from the ground by people barely able to afford their next meal.
11/23/2008 11:29:11 PM
I've actually set a lot of "grandma's diamonds" into more modern settings recently - but the market is still there. Not everyone's Nana had a ring that they want to give their GF - but everyone's Nana isn't dead either. There's more than one child in most older families, so not all the kids get the ring - etc. The one I finished this week was incredible..... It was his Grandmother's diamond, that was reset into a platinum vintage ring... more of the taste of his fiancee... turned out great.
11/23/2008 11:34:15 PM
oh man, diamond engagement rings are so original.
11/24/2008 12:37:11 PM
have i mentioned i love this one?(perhaps on pages 7,9,10, and 11??)^hay gurlll
11/24/2008 2:37:53 PM
So the ring I just got is very similar this, although it's not this exact model. For some reason they don't have the exact one I got on Jared's website, but they have it in the stores. Oh and she said yes, so that's good news too...
11/24/2008 2:43:26 PM
This is what my fiancee is wearing...
11/24/2008 6:15:41 PM
ambrosia, your ring is A++ would admire again
11/24/2008 7:58:47 PM
So Joie I decided to look up the info on that ring and that is nooooooooooooooot a cheap little bugger.
11/24/2008 10:10:19 PM
11/24/2008 10:31:37 PM
ambrosia, bj, and zx: love all of those rings. zx--really impressive; ambrosia--so pretty and i love the antiquey style (i've mentioned that in here before--my love for antiquey art decoy rings); bj: really simple and beautiful!joie: obviously love that one as well, but i think i've seen it around here somewhere before
11/24/2008 10:35:33 PM
^^^ haha i dont know how much you mean, but im sure it is NOT cheap. but i still loveee it ^by whatever do you mean trust me. i will post it again[Edited on November 24, 2008 at 10:51 PM. Reason : actually i just looked it up and its not that bad...or maybe im looking at the wrong ring???]
11/24/2008 10:50:22 PM
$6,300 for all the side stonesCenter diamond not included.
11/24/2008 10:52:46 PM
^yeah i didnt see the center diamond not included part.yes... pricey.however i just went shopping for one that the individual bought for over 3x as much (wtf get me a new car)[Edited on November 24, 2008 at 10:57 PM. Reason : yui]
11/24/2008 10:57:02 PM
haha yeah.So then my next question is, where does one buy a center diamond? Is it really as easy as buying the diamond, bringing it to the store that carries the ring and having it placed? srsly?Just doing some research.....
11/24/2008 11:33:57 PM
And secondly, is it normal for people to go into jewelry shops to try on rings to see what looks best?
11/25/2008 1:17:28 AM
^^ Yes^ Yes
11/25/2008 1:35:18 AM
re: mrfrog I'm wearing FroshKiller's mom's engagement ring as a right hand ring. None of our grandmothers had engagement rings so we haven't inherited jewelry. My mom didn't have an engagement ring but I've called dibs on her silver.
11/25/2008 8:38:39 PM
Here's another shot...it's not a HUGE ring, but damn, it sure looks good on Steph's hand...And no, that's not Steph's hand. Maybe I sneak up and get a pic of it, lol.[Edited on November 25, 2008 at 11:14 PM. Reason : forgot the damn pic.][Edited on November 25, 2008 at 11:15 PM. Reason : blahblah]
