^^^Honestly, I think the arrest is the best thing that could have happened to him in terms of fame.

yup yup

just like T.I.

well the entirety of hillsborough in front of campus is being ripped up as we speak and replaced with the roundabouts and median whatnots that are described at length in this thread.

it needs to be rebuilt and reinstalledgreat for school spirit and incoming freshmen coming in to get interested in the revitalization of the streetit would also bring some people to the street to get their picture taken, etc furthering exposure of the rebuilding projectplus it's excellent public relations and advertising for both the barrel makers and the monster maker
6/15/2009 12:28:11 PM
6/15/2009 12:40:18 PM
He would have given them to him if he would have asked for them beforehand my ass.
6/15/2009 12:49:09 PM
It really depends on how, who, and when he asked as to whether or not they would have given him the barrels. Most construction guys are good people. Crass, yes, but they are good guys.
6/15/2009 1:04:18 PM
Yeah, sounds like an after-the-fact assessment to me. No way no how the guy hands the barrels over."Can I have three barrels for an art project."the only response to this that plays out in my mind is:"Get lost punk."Of course everyone likes the guy now. The only thing missing from the delayed reaction is an official public opinion poll
6/15/2009 1:11:06 PM
cops suck
6/15/2009 2:37:10 PM
give us barrel monster!!!
6/15/2009 2:43:36 PM
...and lasers... the new one must have lasers coming from its eyes.
6/15/2009 4:29:13 PM
Bonus points if it looks like a wolf.
6/15/2009 4:37:05 PM
any updates?
7/2/2009 6:30:12 PM
here's an update: there's no shortage of people who are dumb enough to pull into an intersection and stop even though traffic is backed up on the far side, so when the light cycles, the idiots are blocking the whole intersection
8/7/2009 4:09:12 PM
^THAT IS THE FUCKING TRUTHI'm glad they finally paved the road near Woodburn, but having it narrow down to 1 lane suuucks. It's a convenient excuse for being late to work though
8/7/2009 4:32:09 PM
first day of school down there is gonna be filled with lols
8/7/2009 9:05:28 PM
the traffic sign near Woodburn says something like "Oberlin detour begins 8-14". Does this mean the whole intersection by the belltower will be closed starting then or something less major?Closing one of the 5 biggest intersections on campus for students in dorms will cause lots of traffic woes
8/13/2009 4:55:25 AM
i would hope that it means that you can't turn left onto oberlin after that point and that you just turn at that new cut-through street. but if the sign's at woodburn, i would think that it means they're going to shut down the intersection. that is going to be messy. glad i don't live in that direction anymore.

8/13/2009 9:30:55 AM
how was traffic today?
8/19/2009 7:54:18 PM
Awful.I saw 2 accidents between the bell tower and Mitch's around lunch, and all sorts of other issues.Later on Hillsborough street a dude took out ~5 traffic cones in his SUV while talking on his cell too, that was hilarious.
8/19/2009 8:04:34 PM
i wish there was a webcam
8/19/2009 9:30:22 PM
8/20/2009 12:13:52 AM
i sideswiped a barrel today because i was distracted by staring at people walking
8/20/2009 1:41:35 AM
I walked down a side street and didn't realize that it was the construction staging area until I realized it was closed to traffic on the other end. It's bad when Hillsborough is so torn up that it looks like a construction staging area on both sides.
8/20/2009 5:15:15 PM
On Wednesday I was unlucky enough to get stuck in a section between two parts where they had narrowed the road to one way traffic with sign-men (guys holding the slow/stop signs) at each part.Example (X is my vehicle):=======-------===X=====-------=======I was sitting there for about 20 minutes because they had some kind of delivery going on. It was right by North Hall and after about 10 minutes I resorted to just turning my truck off. Couldn't go anywhere as it was one way traffic either way with traffic to the left of me and a brick wall on my right. I swear, whomever decided to schedule that at like 6:30 in the afternoon was an idiot. It's hilarious when they let traffic back up and then the honking begins, people start getting out of their cars to walk around, and people just resort to turning the street into a giant parking lot.[Edited on August 20, 2009 at 10:02 PM. Why are people driving on the fucked up part of Hillsborough? Take Clark.
8/21/2009 10:03:27 PM
this is so glorious i love it
8/21/2009 10:44:08 PM
^Right i didnt take hillsborough before the construction, i dont take it now, and i wont take it when they're done
8/22/2009 10:20:38 AM
Why are you people still using Hillsborough?
8/22/2009 11:02:14 AM
^^^^^
8/22/2009 6:58:13 PM
If I were a local store, i'd hire some street vendors to hock my goods.
8/22/2009 7:16:32 PM
Everybody Hurts during traffic jams
8/23/2009 12:49:25 AM
went up pullen today to go to CV library. i liked being able to go straight at the light and then turn left onto oberlin rather than a right on to hillsborough and then take a left at the light
8/23/2009 12:54:31 AM
Looking forward to seeing this mess when I go to Mitch's next month
8/23/2009 1:12:41 AM
I sure hope some knowledgeable person or persons properly checked the area around the Belltower. The work crews sure seem to be doing a lot of ground-destabilizing destruction and construction all around the tower--I admit that it concerns me a bit.I just want our Belltower to stay forever upright.
8/23/2009 3:01:42 AM
zone of influencei'm sure the belltower is fine. there is a reason people in construction have degrees, other than just wall decoration
8/23/2009 9:36:37 AM
^ I hope you're right--but don't get cocky. Scores of structural failures and other technological catastrophes happened on projects that had been signed off on by people with degrees in construction engineering and others decorating their walls.
8/23/2009 10:03:07 AM
agreed^
8/23/2009 10:20:38 AM
^,^^Indeed, all it takes is one guy on a Friday afternoon that wants to peace out. Then someone shows up at his office wanting a last minute approval on something, he takes a quick look, and says "yeah yeah fine". The rest is a huge disaster.
8/23/2009 2:23:11 PM
you're kidding, right
8/23/2009 4:50:54 PM
naw, they're on targetone of the reasons why i decided not to go to grad school was because i looked at my wall and i decided that i had enough pictures in framesmy only other possibility was to have the car detailed with my thesisbut that just seemed silly
8/23/2009 4:58:58 PM
^^that's how non-engineers think construction happens.
8/23/2009 5:02:34 PM
^^^I'm not saying it happens in any kind of frequency, but the possibility is there. Granted that possibility is very slim, but never underestimate the power of stupid/lazy people. Always assume someone is going to screw up and take your work seriously. Especially as an engineer, people's lives and your career can depend on it.If you dismiss the possibility entirely and don't have people checking over things then there's a fail boat waiting to run aground.[Edited on August 23, 2009 at 6:10 PM.
