The team motto this year is: "Together. It's about us." The team also wrapped up practice with a chant of: "ACC champs!"

it's important to remember the past, even when it's hurtful, plus it helps keed us level headed. also it helps remind me to hate Georgia Tech. even though they've been one of the biggest thorns in our side, i don't see many State fans completely hating them. people seem to hate Clemson and Maryland, even though we've had more success against those teams than GT in the past 10 or so years.

screen plays??? NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i really hate screen plays, especially since i have little success on NCAA with them, and our team doesn't seem to have much success with them either.

As long as we're not making the screen play our first, second, third, and fourth down play, then Blackman's comments are ok with me. Anything is ok in moderation.

^I pretty much hate anyone we're playing at the time....and I occasionally pull for another ACC team....GT is not one of those. I hate them. I hate Reggie Ball. I hate Calvin Johnson. Good thing we pwned them last year cause this year it might be a little more difficult.

also, screen passes are great on blitzes when you actually have the threat of a deep ball.

also, screen passes are disasterous on blitzes when you throw the screen on every down.

/rant 'bout screens

^Donald Bowens is a fucking monster from the way those pictures look.

^^i was just about to post that hondaguy. Burke is wearing Jay Davis' number. it's gonna be hard for me to not watch him with a little uneasiness whenever he gets his chance to play. i just remember seeing #10 as our quarterback and feeling nervous on every offensive down. i still appreciate Jay for his committment to our program, and thought he represented this University well. a real class act.

didn't see it posted elsewhere. Tommy Hunt, ACC coordinator of football refs is retiring.

http://www.newsobserver.com/122/story/467894.html

Quote :
"Hunt plans to leave ACC post in 2007

Tommy Hunt, a Durham native who has worked as the ACC's coordinator of football officials since 1999, will retire at the end of the 2006-07 academic year, the league announced Friday.

Before he was hired by the ACC, Hunt officiated more than 240 Division I football games -- and 10 bowl games -- in 26 years. The league has not begun looking for his successor yet.

"For the past 33 years, Tommy has been very successful serving this conference as both an official on the field and as the coordinator of football officials," ACC commissioner John Swofford said in a prepared statement.

Hunt has been responsible for developing league officials, assigning games and implementing the conference's first instant replay system last year.

In June, the league announced that Fred Barakat, the associate commissioner for basketball operations, will also retire at the end of the academic year."

Seems Glenn thinks he can get listed here twice by changing his number. Apparently he is right.

He still looks a little like John Dunlap.

doesnt matter. we are only allowed to have one unit that is good at one time.

and this year, it's special teams. there will be plenty of kickoff returns and punts.

sweet! you get all day to tailgate, and it's much cooler at the game. there will be less of a chance for me to get a redneck tan. i remember after one day game last year, my neck was so red and the t-shirt line was so apparent that i could have easily fit in at a Nascar race or a Blue Collar Comedy show.

well i guess they figure the banner will weather to the color of the others after a few years. if you notice the red NEZ seats are
a different hue than the SEZ seats right now, but there suppossed to be the same as them. i guess they'll weather too.

Tony Haynes: Wolfpack Trying to Maximixe Talent:

Quote :
" TONY HAYNES: Wolfpack Trying to Maximize Talent
Courtesy: NC State
Release: 08/07/2006

BY TONY HAYNES

RALEIGH – Armed with the knowledge that NC State would be losing six outstanding players on defense and a handful of reliable skill players from the offense, head coach Chuck Amato and his staff went into spring practice trying to figure out how best to fill some of those holes. The goal, within reason of course, was to somehow maximize the talent on the roster in an effort to replace the likes of receiver Tramain Hall and tight end T.J. Williams on offense and linebacker Stephen Tulloch on defense. One solution for Amato was to figure out a way to get his best players on the field for as many snaps as possible. But what happens when as many as four of your best players actually play the same position?

At NC State, that particular position happened to be running back.

The arm-twisting started prior to spring practice when Darrell Blackman was convinced to try wide receiver. Then later in the spring, Reggie Davis, after spending the first three years of his career at running back, tried his hand at linebacker.

And although both players had proven themselves to be tough, productive backs during their careers, it had became painfully obvious after last season that returning sophomores Toney Baker and Andre Brown were going to get the lion’s share of carries this fall.

The position switches will now allow Blackman and Davis to spend most of their Saturday’s helping NC State win football games instead of watching 75 percent of the game on the sidelines while Baker and Brown shred opposing defenses.

Blackman’s move to receiver makes perfect sense simply because he may very well have the best hands on the team.

“The toughest thing has been learning the routes and all the keys you need to know at the receiver position,” Blackman said. “I’m pretty happy with the switch. It’s going to give me more of a chance to get my hands on the ball and I can get out in the open space a little more. It’s been a good change for me.”

Blackman has already proven that he knows what to do in open space. After leading the ACC and ranking third in the nation in punt returns as a freshman, he was the ACC’s top kick returner with a 29.1 yard average last season.

Blackman’s run after the catch potential could quickly make him one of quarterback Marcus Stone’s favorite targets in 2006.

“Words can’t really explain what that kid can do,” Stone said. “Darrell is just so explosive. He can catch and he’s fast. He’s going to be great for us this year.”

Baker and Brown also figure to be great. After sitting and watching the first six games of the 2005 season, the bruising Brown burst onto the scene by rumbling for 248 yards in a come from behind win over Southern Mississippi. He then proved it wasn’t a fluke by tallying 179 yards in the Pack’s big win at Florida State.

Baker, a strong inside the tackles runner, was second to Brown in rushing with 546 yards.

As freshmen, the two former North Carolina high school players of the year alternated late in the year when the Pack primarily used a one-back attack. This season, personnel changes my actually allow Brown and Baker to spend more time on the field together.

In 2005, NC State had more tight ends that also doubled as H-backs, a hybrid between tight end and fullback. But the departure of T.J. Williams and John Ritcher will leave the Pack with fewer options at tight end, meaning Baker and Brown could form a double-trouble backfield more than they did last season.

“It’s going to be huge,” Baker said. “We’re going to be able to give teams different looks with Andre and me in the backfield. I’ll block for him a little bit and he’ll block for me. We’re using two backs sets this year more than we did last year. They’re just trying to get the both of us in the game. We’re just trying to get the best guys on the field.”

Already in practice, Baker, Brown and Blackman have done double-takes when looking across the line of scrimmage and seeing No. 20, the number worn by Davis.

“It’s kind of weird seeing that No. 20 over there on defense,” Blackman said. “We’re used to being in the backfield together and running plays. It’s kind of shock to see that jersey over there on the defensive side.”

Said Baker: “Having Darrell out there is just another weapon for us and he’s going to do some great things. Reggie Davis is a great team player. He made that sacrifice because he wants to win a championship.” "
