thats witches, not spidersbut they'd probably still be pretty pissed about the bright flash

how's the Rebel XT?it's $550 on Slickdeals right now and I really want a SLRreally can't beat the price
5/25/2006 10:07:37 AM
no, you really can'tdamn....
5/25/2006 10:08:31 AM
550!? hell thats not bad... it depends on if you like canon or nikon better... both are good cameras...i don't like the feel of the XT but 8mp digital slr for 550 ain't bad. go to a store and play with the d50 and the rebel XTsee which one is easist to use for you[Edited on May 25, 2006 at 10:10 AM. Reason : but yeah, thats a hell of a deal, and i wonder how long its gonna be like that][Edited on May 25, 2006 at 10:12 AM. Reason : I HATE MAIL IN REBATES]
5/25/2006 10:10:01 AM
THE "SHTR" comment made me lolthe spider pic is indeed scaryAnd that's as cheap as the XT will get for awhile, but remember there's sales tax to figure in. I just don't like the "feel" of holding an XT; I much preferred the D50 even. Play w/ both before just buying blind.
5/25/2006 10:58:01 AM
The $550 is just for the camera body I assume? All I can find is the kit, listed at $899 with a $100 mail in rebate.
5/25/2006 12:07:40 PM
no, it comes w/ a lens[Edited on May 25, 2006 at 12:12 PM. Reason : http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=A0459534][Edited on May 25, 2006 at 12:13 PM. Reason : Digital Rebel XT 8MP 18-55 kit $899 - 20% 3MR0ZPH46W6ZWC - $35 coupon - 2% DPA - $100 MIR = $570 ]
5/25/2006 12:11:52 PM
The D50 does feel better then the XT, but the XT is a better camera. For 550 bucks, get an XT. That is a great deal for a great camera.
5/25/2006 1:44:24 PM
For that much of a price difference, I would've bought the XT instead of a 20D, even though I'm exceedingly happy with the 20D.
5/25/2006 1:46:50 PM
yeah, looks like i have found a nice deal since i want a serious upgrade
5/25/2006 2:01:57 PM
So let me get this straight, I've never done one of these sweedeals before...1) buy $35 coupon on Ebay2) sign up for a Dell Preferred Account3) call to place the order, redeeming the $35 coupon and giving them the 20% off code, and automatically saving the 2% for having a DPA4) mail in the online rebate form after receipt5) profit?I was also reading in the discussion forum on sweetdeals that you can choose to purchase just the body for $100 off, which is good for me

my company wants me to come up with the plans for a relatively low budget in-house shooting studio, so here are the things I am considering thus far (and I have to price everything):Camera: Nikons vs. CanonsTripod: ?Lighting: ? (might need difuser or umbrella)Lenses: most likely portrait lens (fixed 28mm or 50mm), and macro lensFilters: none.Backgrounds: seamless pulldown (or if it takes up too much space... whiteboard?)do you guys think I'm forgetting anything? thanks!-ZiP!-
5/25/2006 6:31:30 PM
Camera: Canon, of courseTripod: Don't cheap out on a tripod. You get what you pay for. Buy the best tripod legs and ballhead you can afford. Lighting: Look at alienbees website. GREAT quality stuff, for relatively cheap. http://www.alienbees.com/Lenses: For studio work, a nice portrait length prime is always nice. Usually beteen 35 and 100-ish is good portrait length.Filters: *shrugs*Backgrounds: Paper or sheets can work. Backgrounds can be had for relatively cheap.

set em up

A friend of mine got this (well, one like it, but crappier and 0.5X) in a package deal, and didn't want it. She knew I'm into photograpy so she gave it to me.http://focuscamera.com/sc/froogle-lead-1.asp?id=964591245&rf=froogle&dfdate=05_23_2006&sid=480723744what the fuck do i do with itI should clarify...I get the wide angle part, but what is macro about it[Edited on May 25, 2006 at 8:48 PM. ^those things are gimmicky and don't work (from my understanding).i think its supposed to be complete crap, because it doesn't operate like a normal glass lens-ZiP!-
5/25/2006 9:56:21 PM
ZiP,I'm kind of suprised your work cant afford to buy an expensive rig. Houghton Mifflin had a studio in house and they had a Mamiya camera with a Leaf thing on the back. The photographer said that when they bought the Leaf contraption for 24k, Leaf threw in the 5k camera with it. Crazy stuff. Nice setup.
5/25/2006 10:35:45 PM
hey man --haha, true. my company does have $$, but this would be simply for one area of the company, an area that right now consists of the senior designer and myself, so I think that's why there isn't much funding to work with but i hear you on the digital backs -- my last company used a medium-format film camera with a leica digital back i think, and this automated system with all these flashes and crap that were triggered with a remote-ZiP!-

I just got the Rebel XT on Wednesday. Not a lot of colorful things to take photos of in a small town, so my neighbor's flowers seemed like a decent choice. Can't afford another lens yet, so I just went with the kit lens.

Again, what;s with the signature? For the shot of the lighthouse (I'm assuming it is a lighthouse), did you mean for the sky to be blown out? You've got some serious exposure problems going on there.

Ahahahaha I'm surprised nobody got Lowjack's joke.
5/26/2006 8:54:36 PM
Oh I got it.

I went shooting around downtown Raleigh this evening. Wasn't really happy with anything I got, but I figured I'd post anyway.Ripped out of my mind, watching Bob Ross episodes on DVD.My buddy John's desk.Lightning storm in Raleigh. This shot had such potential, but there was so much light around (underneath the frame) that caused some shitty CA. I could not get the building in focus to save my life, I'm thinking because of the rain/fog. My buddy that I was shooting with had the same problem. My car and a parabolic mirror. Some random door.Something.
