anyone else pick up an Evo 3D yet?
6/28/2011 9:02:02 AM
ugh. Dropped my Droid X in my house this weekend and it landed face down. Screen didn't crack or anything but there are a ton of dead pixels on it now. Probably going to have to replace it; luckily I do have the warranty. Not sure if I'll get a refurb'd DX or what.
6/28/2011 9:23:00 AM
also is anyone waiting on the Photon 4G (instead of the Evo 3D)]
6/28/2011 9:56:23 AM
^^^I have been patiently waiting for S-OFF on my 3D since 6/22 heh.HTC did release a statement last night saying that they're 'working diligently' on a solution.
6/28/2011 10:09:31 AM
^ to unlock their own phone...or am i misunderstanding what S-off is?
6/28/2011 10:19:11 AM
yeah, s-off allows custom roms.
6/28/2011 10:24:07 AM
Does anyone have any experience with the ViewSonic gTablet (as seen on http://sellout.woot.com/)? I broke down and got one and plan on putting cyanogenmod on it once I play with it a bit... I've got the 'need a tablet' bug
6/29/2011 12:38:36 AM
so...is gingerbread for the thunderbolt supposed to be released tomorrow? how does an update work...will it prompt me or do i have to manually update somehow?also, i haven't rooted it, yet...will updating to gingerbread make it harder, easier, or have no effect whatsoever?also also, is it generally accepted that the thunderbolt doesn't have an NFC chip and does that really matter?
6/29/2011 9:25:03 AM
I'd go with 0% chance of there being an update tomorrow. I'd just root now and install one of the custom roms and not worry about waiting for Verizon updates. Plus there's already gingerbread based roms available.
6/29/2011 9:31:39 AM
well, i was only waiting because i thought it'd be released tomorrow (not that i care one way or another...as my first smart phone, i'm still pretty bad with it)i only really want to root it so i can use it as a mobile hotspot without paying extra for it...i see the icon for it on the phone and i was told that verizon offers a free trial of it, but i didn't want to activate it yet since i want to use it in a few weeks (assuming that the trial starts when you give it permission to, that is)not sure what other advantages there are to rooting it

would rooting keep me from being able to upgrade to gingerbread when it releases?
6/29/2011 9:58:33 AM
WHERE'S MY GINGERBREAD? okay, i've rooted and installed barnacle...works welli haven't updated to a gingerbread-esque OS, though...are there many options for the thunderbolt? recommend one

If it has not been posted already, LTE launch in Raleigh is July 21.

LTE will kill a battery like nobody's bidness
6/30/2011 9:36:23 AM
^ yeah, no doubt...but i plan on utilizing LTE when working away from home AND the office, as well as when i travel and don't have internet available (like in a couple of weeks when i'm at the beach)...if LTE is available (and even if it isn't, 3G will do), i'll tether my phone and use it as a wireless router, so it'll be plugged in (to my computer or to the wall charger)

3G is 1-2/5 bars at my house in raleigh...should i expect signal strength of 4G to be better than that?
6/30/2011 10:13:51 AM
no...i'm not sure if they're even on the same towers, but even if they are, Sprint's 4G signal doesn't go as far as 3G (not sure if that's true for the other "4G" options out there)
6/30/2011 10:17:24 AM
anyone own the new Galaxy 10.1 tablet?
6/30/2011 10:19:57 AM
Thinking about getting a new phone Android for AT&T. Anything that is clearly better than the rest? Anything worth waiting for?
6/30/2011 10:27:46 AM
The Samsung Infuse is a VERY nice phone but it's $200.However, the HTC Inspire is a great phone for $100.[Edited on June 30, 2011 at 10:36 AM. Reason : .]

^^I have the Galaxy S. THe battery is going on it. THe infuse looks nice.
6/30/2011 10:40:13 AM
The Infuse is the nicest all around Android phone I've had experience with. I deal with quite a few of them for my job and our company has several (Evo 4G, Inspire, Atrix, Droid, Droid 2, Droid Incredible, Infuse, Fascinate, and Droid X). That phone is incredibly slick.
6/30/2011 11:16:40 AM
we got LTE here about 3 weeks ago while i haven't quantified the rate of drain with the 4g Im mindful of shutting off my radio when not in use.
6/30/2011 11:21:03 AM
it'd be great if this app had a widget, but reviews imply that it saves some battery lifehttps://market.android.com/details?id=net.andirc.lteonfoff

I played with a buddy's evo 3d last night... it was pretty cool seeing the 3d screen
6/30/2011 1:23:40 PM
any sprint users holding out on the 3D for the Galaxy S 2? I thought about it for a minute, but got the 3D since it appears to be the future favorite of the mod community.
6/30/2011 1:43:54 PM
Just did my insurance claim with Asurion. No mention of a DX instead of the DX2. I will be pretty annoyed if a used DX is all I get for a $99 deductible...
6/30/2011 2:25:56 PM
They did that with the OG Droid. Ran out and started giving out Droid 2's. Had my radio crash a couple days later and had a warranty phone sent and of course it wasn't a Droid 2. A guy at AC who had placed a call the day before I called ended up with a Droid 2. Just my luck I guess.

Filed a claim yesterday because mine fell out of my pocket and in the toilet (yay!). Didn't know about this X2 switch. Got a brand new Droid X in sealed retail box this afternoon.Sooooo, there's that.]
6/30/2011 5:51:57 PM
I apologize if this is answered or easily found...but is there a simple way to sync mp3s (actual files as well as playlists) between Windows and Android?
6/30/2011 6:08:01 PM
Google Musicor whatever people were using before or currently in lieu of.
6/30/2011 6:15:27 PM
So...you don't know?
6/30/2011 6:34:05 PM
Google Music will sync mp3s (actual files as well as playlists) between Windows and Android.I think Amazon's Cloud MP3 app will do it as well. Google Music is getting mixed reviews and I have no idea if a solution other than your own VPS/Dropbox/Streaming hack was in place before either of these services.
6/30/2011 6:46:05 PM
Winamp will sync as well, but I haven't used it.
6/30/2011 7:28:02 PM
Doubletwist I think does that. My atrix has software built into blur that'll do it
6/30/2011 8:01:43 PM
Oh yeah Doubletwist, that's what I was forgetting. I think I used that on my TP2.
6/30/2011 8:28:21 PM
just playing around with my phone and did a software update check......a ~35mb update showed up from verizon...this isn't gingerbread, is it? is it okay to update, now that i've rooted it?[Edited on June 30, 2011 at 9:43 PM. Reason : que?]
6/30/2011 9:40:13 PM
Once you root your device you don't take any OTAs otherwise you're going to lose it.
6/30/2011 9:53:07 PM
so are these like security patches or could this actually be gingerbread?thanks for the heads up...i would assume that you can always re-root it, but it generally just takes some time before the community gets around to making a new root?
6/30/2011 9:58:20 PM
Your source of updates is no longer OTA, go to the forums
6/30/2011 9:58:28 PM
cool, i'll make sure i do that...i've rejected the updatestill just curious as to what it IS, given that gingerbread is supposed to (though not really) release today...i didn't have any updates when i checked yesterday, and now i do*shrug*[Edited on June 30, 2011 at 10:04 PM. Reason : ah, nm, it looks like it's because i rooted it wants to update the software...noobing all over here]
