if lowe had played his cards right, he could have slow played hickson, got him to stay another year and maybe showed that he could develop a top 10 picki mean, hickson showed barely any improvement that season. when he came in, he couldnt handle/pass out of a double team and didnt have the lower body strenght to bang w/ acc caliber forwards/centers, when he left, he couldnt handle/pass out of a double team and didnt have the lower body strenght to bang w/ acc caliber forwards/centers. i'm not sure how that proves lowe's developmental skills. all it shows is that lowe will let you takeover his team as a tryout for the nba.anyway, ill just leave it at saying that tonight's win is a positive and a step in the right direction, but by no means a sign of great things to come. lets win a couple more against good competition before giving out any "most improved" awards.
11/22/2009 11:42:15 PM
lol if you think there was any scenario in which hickson wouldve stayed in college for 2 years
11/22/2009 11:43:33 PM
god you act like the dude is carmelo fucking anthonyi shudder at the scenario i am about to use, but if hickson had gone to unc or duke he absolutely would have stayed 2 years. they would have made him work to get PT and pointed out areas he needed to improve and convince him he could be a lottery/top 10 if he waited.good coaches are shown by their ability to improve talent. recruiting ability is essential, of course, but it is for shit if you cant improve talent. the players that come out of hs ready to star in college are few and far between.
11/22/2009 11:47:29 PM
there's a reason he didnt go to duke or unc. he came from downtown atlanta, was poor as shit and raised by his grandmother because both his parents died when he was young. it's not like he was some hyped up nba prospect. he went 19th overallhe was going pro after 1 year no matter what we fucking did. Do you want to go tell Jim Boeheim and whoever the Texas A&M coach was what they couldve done differently to keep Donte Green and DeAndre Jordan in college for more than a year?

11/23/2009 2:32:33 AM
good win, according to the Sagarin ratings we are a pretty good team this year. Keep winning.
11/23/2009 6:49:59 AM
Hickson was more ready that season than Costner or McCauley. Any player that comes into the season out of shape and sulks after losing playing time has noone to blame but themself.
11/23/2009 10:48:47 AM
^ I agree. Hickson earned his PT, mainly b/c otherwise... who else is playing the 5? McCauley? People forget that Big Ben was supposed to be more of a SF/PF hybrid (playing both down low and on the wing). Basically he was a bigger, more talented Dennis Horner without the couple dozen tattoos Ben bulked up his Jr and Sr years to compensate for our depleted frontcourt. He was good, but let's not forget that true low post players ate him for lunch routinely, and he was nowhere to be found offensively against a true center or big PF. Anyone else at the 5 would have been just as bad if not worse.Question - Anyone else surprised to see Scott Wood getting 30+ minutes as a freshman? He's not exactly excelled thus far, and yes I've been on his bandwagon for a while now, but I'm still amazed that he's playing so much this quickly. (Note: I know this Q doesn't truly belong in this thread, but didn't see anywhere else to put it)Right now I'm most worried about the 2 and 3. Javi seems to be handling PG, which is great. But CJW is struggling, Degand is pushing Lowe's buttons with his grades, and Thomas apparently can't beat out two unheralded freshmen for PT. The only upside I see here is that CJL wants to play the 3 as opposed to the 4 (thus getting matched up against more physical players). I think PT won't be a problem for him Cothron on the other hand may be wary of having to compete with V-berg, Smith, Painter, and Howell for PT at the 4/5. Crazy how much depth State now has at these positions. I think Painter, as athletic as he is, could potentially move to the 3, but he'd need to develop an outside shot.
11/23/2009 1:16:53 PM
Howell could play the 3 better than Costner could. Luke would probably end up getting around 10-15 minutes a game as a freshman and more as a Sophomore when Smith leaves.

11/23/2009 6:52:32 PM
^^^damn! you plan on copyrighting that book? lol
11/23/2009 7:02:32 PM
Wood's exceeded my expectations thus far.
11/23/2009 7:23:21 PM
Agreed, with some more experience he'll be a really great player, he already knows how to shoot.
11/23/2009 7:27:41 PM
11/23/2009 7:36:21 PM
Wood is going to be a stud as he gets more comfortable and those shots start falling
11/23/2009 8:24:47 PM
Actually, all the freshmen have exceeded my expectations thus far... Well, except Painter. He's about where I expected him to be at this point in the season. I'm looking forward to seeing Howell.
11/23/2009 8:54:57 PM
Wood has been an asset despite his shot not falling yet. Can't see how anyone could be upset with what he's given us
11/23/2009 9:01:17 PM
I haven't seen him play yet and i hope for the best, but based on the box scores Wood is going to get destroyed by ACC competition. He's already turning the ball over or missing a shot nearly every time he gets an opportunity to.If you are reading this board Wood do yourself a favor. If you are open, shoot. If you are guarded by a white guy improvise. If you are guarded by a black guy, pass.
11/23/2009 9:27:04 PM
OMG what should he do if an asian is guarding him? You stupid shit head who hasn't even seen him playScott looks very good out there for his 4th college game. I'm glad he's not afraid to pull the trigger. I think he'll contribute to the team a lot in the next 4 years.
