Glocks have 36 parts (depending on if you count assemblies or split parts as one or two), and only 8 of them are different for the 9/.40/.357sig families and sizes. I have a 23 and 27, only 8 parts different.I have a 23 and 24, only 8 parts different.I have a 17 and 33, only 8 parts different. The same thing applies to the .45acp and 10mm glocks.

I ended up getting a G32 barrel instead of the G33 to swap in my G27. Why not? Same price, no difference in concealability, slightly better ballistics for .357 SIG. Ran about 250 rounds through this setup... and it's 100% reliable with the subcompact mags so far.

Picked up another new gun today.Traded my S&W 642 Airweight revolver for a 1911.This is my first 1911 and now I need to get accessories for it. Holsters, new grips, mags, etc.

I got to shoot one of the barrett semi auto .50 cal rifles the other day. Fucking insane. I was actually shellshocked for a second or two after shooting it, felt like i got punched in the nose.

So I just found out (via Glock website) that the G25 and G28 (.380 auto) is reserved for LE only. Interesting...[Edited on January 2, 2012 at 9:13 PM. Reason : .]

"Although they are not marketed in North America, except to law enforcement agencies, because they lack sufficient BATF import points, GLOCK makes two pistols for .380 Auto, the GLOCK 25 and GLOCK 28. These pistols were developed for those countries that forbid the civilian possession of a handgun chambered in a common military caliber."

so my wife bought me lessons at Learn to Shoot NC to get my concealed carry permit. what an awesome gift. I'm so excited about it. I see a Springfield XD-9 Subcompact in my near future!!
1/3/2012 10:34:41 AM
^^ I don't think that was part of the story when I read it the other day. The only reason I could see the dispatcher saying that is to keep him from accidentally shooting an officer, but even that is kind of weak. I would imagine the kid knows not to do that.
1/3/2012 10:44:33 AM
I can understand that, but that's easily managed by the dispatcher saying the police are on scene.
1/3/2012 10:47:15 AM
So how much more concealable is the subcompact version of the XD9 vs the XD9 with the 4" barrel? I want to purchase a daily carry that is easy to conceal and comfortable. Also is there a significant reduction in accuracy in the 3" subcompact vs the 4"? From the reviews I've read they are both very accurate. I've pu several rounds through the 4" version but haven't shot the 3".
1/3/2012 10:50:59 AM
Accuracy between the 3'' and 4'' in regards to the gun, they would be identical.Accuracy between the two in regards to you, depends. The longer sight radius will increase your ability to make accurate shots. How much it affects you depends on your skill level and comfort with the firearm. The length of the barrel is not the hard part to conceal. The grip length is normally what causes printing, and what people try to minimize. A good holster can help minimize this problem.I have a G23 and G27, which are the equivalents of what you are looking at in size. I can CC the 23 w/ minimal problems, but the 27 will disappear. The extra 1'' of grip makes the difference. Generally, my 23 is my winter/cool weather gun, and my 27 is the T-shirt gun. Also, why the XD?

^For your 1911 get Chip McCormick Mags, Whichever VZ grips you prefer, and roll. I just got rid of a set of VZ grips for pachmayrs, because I was going for an MEU(SOC) 1911 look, however they were good looking grips.

Good, just glad you tried others before picking.Too many time people just pick based on what a friend, or family member, or random internet stranger have to say.I found out today that Walmart sells ammo cans of Lake City 5.56 at some locations. $150 for 420 rounds on stripper clips.Shooting the new 1911 this weekend./blog

had a conversation with one my apartment complex employees yesterday.he was complaining that "assault weapons" were to easy to buy... he specifically mentioned semi-auto version of AKs, M16s, etc. I asked him if he had a problem with hunting rifles, to which he said no, then about semi-auto hunting rifles, to which he said no.... I explained to him that other than a few manufacturer specific designs, these actions are the exact same... a semi-auto AK/M16 (or it's civilian equivalent) is the same firearm as your wooden stock hunting rifle, it just looks different... he was like "oh... ok... but these military guns shouldn't be owned by people"... I was like, military gun? Almost every rifle on the market stems from a "military" gun... I don't know if I convinced him or not.

1/5/2012 10:46:14 AM
Correct. When manufactured to spec, which any decent one is, they all function identically.
1/5/2012 11:07:42 AM
so i was talking to a co-worker gun enthusiast who said I should give the S&W M&P some thought. What are your impressions TWW? I haven't shot one yet but would like to soon.
1/5/2012 11:46:13 AM
^ it is a good gun, I would go with a Glock or XDM ahead of it though just out of personal preference
1/5/2012 11:49:39 AM
The newer M&P 9pm are having problems. The barrel is unlocking early and throwing shots high, 8" at 25 yards. The ergonomics are great, and the trigger is decent as well. I will probably own one eventually, but not till I hear that the problem has been worked out. If you can find a place that will let you try the specific gun before you buy, or let you return it if is one of the afflicted, then I wouldn't have a problem getting one. I'll just keep recommending GLOCK as usual.[Edited on January 5, 2012 at 12:10 PM. Reason : .]
1/5/2012 12:07:40 PM
i took a defensive handgun course a few weeks back, and was constantly reminded that my hand isn't big enough to release the mag without adjusting my grip (on the G26)i could get the extended release but then it would be digging into my skin whenever i'm carrying iwb. anybody else have this problem?
1/5/2012 12:43:29 PM
1/5/2012 1:24:03 PM
throwing my recommendation in for an XD. looove my XD9
1/5/2012 1:29:52 PM
^^ I've been browsing some S&W forums and haven't read anything about that either.
1/5/2012 1:58:18 PM
I carry a full frame M&P 40 almost daily and I really enjoy the gun. It is very easy to maintain and shoots well. It probably isn't the easiest gun for me to conceal in the summertime due to being a full frame, but for my needs concealment generally isn't of the utmost importance. I've tossed around the idea of getting a compact version simply to stay on the same weapon system.M&P, Glock, XD: I'd be happy carrying any of the three and your decision will likely come down to which feels best in *your* hands (or which you can get the best deal on).**Note, I haven't had any of the aforementioned issuses with my M&P, but it is .40 and not the newest batch (Rev. N).
1/5/2012 2:20:17 PM
will have completed my ccw/cch class this week. looking to get a revolver for carry but not quite sure where to start. i used to always want a colt growing up but i dont think they have anything reasonably small enough to carry or I could just be missing that entirely...suggestions?
1/5/2012 2:42:38 PM
S&W 642 - my favorite daily carry pistolAlso i like the ruger lcr
1/5/2012 3:00:03 PM
Wife has a 642, and I agree that it makes a nice little gun with a clipdraw. As a full-size carrier, I don't think I'd want to rely on it given the option of a semi, but it's not a bad choice if you're set on a revolver. Revolvers just trade too much capacity and size for mechanical simplicity, IMO. Obviously it's your preference, but if you have the frame to wear anything close to a service pistol, I'd go that direction and consider the wheelgun as a backup gun or alternative for more "formal" dress situations where more discretion is required. All that said, you could always conceal a full-size revolver, but that's a level of ergonomic awkwardness that few sane persons would dare entertain.
1/5/2012 3:36:19 PM
As a gun, my 642 was great. As a gun for me, it wasn't so great. That is why I traded for a full size 1911.
1/5/2012 3:44:25 PM
I definitely understand the benefits of a 642 or similar revolver, I use a 686 as my nightstand gun because you can't beat the reliability of a revolver (and I love the .357 round). That being said, my carry guns are all semi-auto mainly due to the fact that they either hold more rounds, conceal better, or both. If I am just looking for something to conceal I can grab my Kahr PM9 and drop it in my pocket holster, if I am not as worried about size my Glock 19 fits the bill. Can't really think of a time I would feel better with a 642.Of course all that being said I would still feel comfortable with a 642 or like option.[Edited on January 5, 2012 at 4:10 PM. Reason : .]
1/5/2012 4:06:06 PM
In regards to the M&P 9mm problem I was talking about...8'' at 25 yards is ~1'' at 6 yards. I don't think many people would notice that. The newer guns was ~6 months ago that the problem started to appear. The guys that I talked to about it are really plugged into the industry, and I believe every word they say. The problem was from a redesign attempting to share more parts. I don't know if the problem has been addressed yet, as I haven't talked to them again about it. I do know that it only affected the 9mm version. If I had to guess, I would say that S&W would have addressed the problem by now.
1/5/2012 4:40:42 PM
not sure if it would help or not... i feel like it might. they're pretty cheap, so i'll probably go ahead and try it out. worst case, i'm out a few bucks. the hybrid iwb holster i've got has the combat cut, so if it sticks out too far it will jab me in the side/back.i considered the extended slide stop but in these classes they train to do overhand, since it requires less fine motor skills
1/6/2012 8:01:10 AM
I love my XD-40
1/6/2012 8:20:10 AM
so my gun enthusiast co-worker is going to let me borrow his M&P 9mm compact for my CC class. Once I get some range time with it i'll make my final decision. He also said he would consider selling it to me. If I like it I may offer him $400.
