I think having Negan sitting on the porch acting dumbfounded was pretty spot on to how I would imagine someone in his shoes acting.

You have a guy that has "seen some shit" out in the real world and is the leader of a ruthless group that kills people regularly. The man literally has put an iron to 2 of his follower's faces for breaking his rules. Then you enter this new community you discovered that has power, running water, walls, and people just walking around like nothing is wrong with the world. It has to feel extremely surreal. Hell it's probably the first little kid he's seen in quite some time given her age and when the shit hit the fan. I really doubt many people carrying infants around during a zombie apocalypse had both them and the infant survive.

Read several articles that said the show is bleeding viewers. Apparently Negan isn't very popular. Either that or people liked Glenn a lot.

I dunno what you guys are talking about...Morgan is hands down the best actor on this show right now. Is he playing a guy who bothers you? Maybe, but he's playing him well

I figured it's bleeding viewers because the last several episodes have been so boring. I think viewers are getting tired of the way they stretch out plot advancement between premieres and finales. I know they have to do new character introductions and character development but there are more exciting ways of doing that. The comics are also way ahead of the show so they are in no danger of catching up anytime soon.

Game of Thrones has done a pretty good job of getting in character development quickly while keeping the action top-notch. I guess since characters don't stick around long, you have to go heavy with the character development early on.

Yeah the pacing has been sputtering the last few seasons but they always have a nice stretch to get people back into it.

The problem right now is nothing positive is happening to our heroes and I think people really understand that any of their favorite characters can die now.

I also feel like there is a decent contingency of people now that just choose to binge-watch it later to help with how slow the show can be.

Not sure why people are surprised to see that Negan will be around for another full season, this isn't going to be like Terminus where it's all wrapped up in an episode.

the wife and I used to watch every episode live religiously. Right now we have the last two week's worth sitting in our DVR, and we've decided to just read in bed instead of watching them.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that my mother-in-law, and some other "older" viewers, have said they are no longer interested in the show after the premiere. I think that sentiment is probably pretty common. I'm not sure if it was the shock value, gore, Glenn-love, or what, but the positive momentum this show gained over the last few seasons has fallen apart. I thought it would pick up once Rick's nemesis showed up, but that isn't the case.

this was a great point from earlier in the thread:

Quote :
"I am not sure it was the gore, I think it was the twisted mindfuck games, and the fact they are yet again fighting an evil regime, except this time minus on of the beloved characters. I don't think the ratings would have been that low if Glenn had lived. I think the mental torture of Glenn's death was actually depressing for people. When you become actually depressed by a tv show, it kind of gets you reflecting why the fuck are you even choosing to watch something that depresses you. "

my guess, just from the comic storyline is that most of season 7 will be somewhat slow and boring, then season 8 will be pedal to the metal all season long

but an entire season of pretty much down episodes takes guts on the part of the producers

or just dragging it out to make more money

I still love this show, and it looks like things will start to get interesting again now that the "gang's all back together".

Gotta say though, Rosita really fucked up. If you're gonna do something that risks uncovering a source of bullets...MAKE A SHIT TON of bullets first. Because now you're fucked.

I didn't quite understand the whole houseboat on the lake with a ton of supplies "game" that was setup. I thought it was just going to be empty and basically a trap for anyone headed towards Negan's HQ.

Instead it looks like some dude in weird boots set it up as a "game"(or maybe a test?), thus the piece of paper that said you passed the game but lost. So he clearly followed them back to Alexandria and is casing the place, now to see what part he plays.

Except for the episode with Tara, I agree. Negan has been the only real threat to Rick's group the whole time. Yeah, the governor/Terminus/Wolves/etc. managed to kill some people here and there but none of them ever actually were a serious threat. We all knew Rick would deal with them. This is the first time Rick's confidence and leadership has been shaken.

And also, yeah Rosita totally fucked up. She even had a golden opportunity then and there to get a little closer to Negan when he told someone to clean up Spencer's body.

that scene with Darryl and fat joe was cold as ice, but I guess after all the shit those guys did to Darryl it was understandable.

Did Michonne also take out her prisoner? Again, fuck any of Negan's people at this point.

Was Jesus's whole goal to find Darryl? I can't remember exactly what he was looking for by going to Negan's place.

With all the people that Negan has (and Michonne saw a lot), it seems like that group would be very susceptible to collapse from within due to infighting and their culture of taking from others, especially since Negan spends so much time away from his sanctuary. Negan keeps those that originally stand up to him around (Dwight, Rick, now Rosita), but kills people randomly to keep them in line. I know we saw the scene with the iron, but I feel like seeing more about the rest of the saviors would help us see how he keeps that group together (other than by fear).

Came off to me that Michonne's prisoner WANTED her to take her out. Almost like the guy that begged Dwight to kill him.

Jesus was going to find the Saviors camp and scout it out.

Well Negan seems to do a good job of creating a social hierarchy within his group. He appoints people to positions of powers and even have a "money" system for workers to earn food and such. The people in power will tend to things while he's gone and the tiers will control themselves as long as they think they can move up and they continue to get what they want. Helps that a lot of the people are sociopaths that enjoy all of the bad stuff they have to do.

Negan also is good at making "examples" of people, ruling by fear is effective but rarely works out long-term. It will take the hierarchy falling apart for it to collapse. You're much more likely to see a coup than a complete revolution.

This entire first half used 10% of the budget.

No large groups of walkers.

No expensive action sequences.

All setup for the 2nd half.

The whole point of Jesus getting into that truck was to see where Negan's compound was. He got into that truck after specifically hearing someone say take this shipment directly to Negan.

This shit's coming back in less than a week. Blah, blah, blah I'm not watching any more if nothing ever happens from week to week. I have no idea what happened in the comics, but I do hope they wrap up the series soon. The zombies are hardly a threat to anyone now.

The point is the zombies keep coming, they never stop, that's why you need walls and supplies

that and people are pretty much terrible, if the police just stopped enforcing laws, it would be like the show in a matter of weeks

Gimple and Kirkman have said they know where they want season 11 and 12 to be, if they are "lucky enough to get there"

I hope season 8 lives up to the hype it is creating among comic fans (cant say any more than that), or they wont get there

if they do it right, it should make you shit your pants

That's the fun thing about zombies. It's like fighting an army that never stops(no sleep, doesn't run out of ammo, etc), it increases it's numbers the more successful it is, and it's completely emotionless. They don't have to scavenge for food, find safe places to sleep, grow tired, get sick, get scared, get nervous, etc. They're great in a war of attrition. They don't have to kill you, they just have to wait until you die and you join their ranks.

Haha. The idea that in a post-apocalyptic world where everything is being rebuilt and communities are being assembled that there would be "kings" or "monarchs" seems reasonable. I mean it happened in history for a reason.

They even explained WHY he became a king(hello pet Tiger) and how the kingdom formed. If that's your biggest problem with the show, then I agree, you should definitely stop watching.

Episode was definitely weird, but with all the weird in their world, it oddly makes sense. I didn't like much of the episode, but I am hoping this builds to bigger tension and complex story lines...

Those folks really have some issues...Rick's smiling was very much a highlight!

LudaChris that was first thought. And then Rick called Tara out so we know that is direction. They spent a whole episode on it, so it better pay off with some decent tv.
