So after rooting with Unrevoked and flashing with the latest Cyanogenmod, both my buddie's and my EVO's GPS is totally borked. I've tried some of the fixes google turns up with no luck. Has anyone ran into this before?
6/8/2011 7:18:39 PM
tried to look this up on XDA but the threads are cluttered and it's been awhile so im lost.I have a Samsung Fascinate (Galaxy S)back in january or february i upgraded my room to EB01 and one of the random themes like redbread or something.since then there have been a lot of new roms out, i hear a lot of talk about CM7 coming soon.. are any of the roms out now that much better than EB01? would it be worth upgrading?do any of you have a fascinate, and if so, is it rooted and what are you running?

synapse use this link for the GPS fix http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/fzqnc/evo_cyanogenmod_7_gps_fixprls_and_htc_sense/Pretty much you have to go to a Sense rom perform the steps then re-flash your Cyanogen. So use ROM Manager and load a sense one (I used Baked Snack I believe or Fresh). A little bit of a pain, but worth it in the long run. Hope it helps, if you have questions let me know.

1) Is that what I see when I go to Settings-ADWLauncher-Themes Preferences? No, it's in Apps > Theme Chooser2) So if I go with a ZIP....all I need to do is take a Nandroid backup and if I don't like the ZIP, just restore the Nandroid backup? It's been published to the market. Matted Blues - search for it. 3) How do you not lose data (by data I mean OS settings, Texts Call Log, Apps, App Data etc..)?ZIPs overwrite only. So if it's a theme ZIP, it's just overwriting the portions of the ROM that it needs to. ROM ZIPs are usually around 85MB or so for CM - they overwrite the old ROM. Wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing a new ROM. That doesn't erase personal data either. I flash nightlies over each other regularly.4) GPS IssuesI did the ##GPSCLRX# fix once and have never had to do it again. I thought they had fixed it in the post 7.0.3.1 releases but I'm not certain. I've never experienced it. With nandroid backups though, this process is pretty easy and takes like 20 minutes. Always keep a sense ROM in nandroid backup in case you need it.[Edited on June 9, 2011 at 5:26 AM. Reason : .]

My Evo just got the Gingerbread update. Can't notice any major differences yet, other than some slight UI changes...

I don't mind at all paying 2.99 for MattedBlues because it's been on my phone since the first time dfshadow mentioned it and I understand how much time and effort goes in to freelance developing, but BeatBlaster's recent tweets about no one buying it and calling everyone cheap is a bit tacky imo.I personally, have not purchased the apk because I'm still using the 2.91 zip and haven't upgraded my CM7 nightly in a couple of months. I'll probably get the market version when I get the 3D, but I've already donated 5 bucks back in April and don't feel obligated to rush out and purchase this version which probably won't skin as much as I currently have. Without even so much as a nod to his donors/supporters or at least qualifying his blanket statements I've lost a bit of respect.</rant>After further reading, it appears to be in response to finding out someone posted the apk on a warez site.[Edited on June 10, 2011 at 1:03 PM. Still baffled on why MattedBlues hasn't been ported to the OG Droid yet.
6/10/2011 1:05:53 PM
BeatBlaster_ is a sensitive black dude...fuck him...he's not developing for the evo anymore. mackgk1 is the guy - he said he understands if old time users don't feel like paying for it and you should just contact him, he can work something out...
6/10/2011 1:39:32 PM
I am not happy about Netflix not working for Evo on 2.3. Now I can't even get it from the Market.
6/10/2011 1:49:04 PM
^^Once I followed the trail of tweets and fully realized that, I added mackgk1 to my timeline and I'll be removing BeatBlaster_. At first I thought mackgk1 was just in charge of creating an apk. Is he jabbawalkee?!^works fine for me.[Edited on June 10, 2011 at 1:54 PM. Reason : ]
6/10/2011 1:54:22 PM
Not sure who jabbawalkee is but mackgk1 is the one who originally created the theme. BeatBlaster_ ported to Evo but when the community on XDA had issues, he took them to heart and became overly sensitive. He can't just stop reading or stop caring about what people say - he's the typical "creative" - sensitive drama queen status. mackgk1 is in charge of the theme, he gives people permission to use his icon designs, etc. to port to other themes.

LoL your avatar on Twitter looks hilarious...anyone know a good app to open ZIPs as the default viewer in Android? I have a couple other apps that want to take control of that like TapeMachine codec installer and something else...i know file explorer can do it natively but I want the ease of use to download something in the browser, click it in my notification bar, and be able to open it directly.[Edited on June 10, 2011 at 6:42 PM. I would say Netflix has a better selection than HBO GO, especially for moviesbut if you want to watch every episode of Sopranos or The Wire, thats only going to be available on HBO GOof course if you're a current HBO subscriber already, HBO GO is free

have yall had any problems with trying to direct dial numbers from email links? like someone sent me their phone number through email, which was hyperlinked, and when i clicked it it went to the dialer, but it only showed my most recent call. it does the same thing if i try a number on google search. this is with the gingerbread update for droid x btw

A question for you people with cyanogenmod. Do updates occur automatically if not what is the best method to keep the rom up to date?
6/13/2011 9:28:54 AM
If you use ROMManager, you'll get an update notification for each stable build. If you have a nightly installed you'll get an update for every nightly.
6/13/2011 11:00:15 AM
^ that requires the paid version of rom manager correct?

Selling my Xoom Wifi. Had it since April. Nothing wrong with it, just picking up a Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB as it supports handwriting much better. Including the portfolio case as well. I know it's Tdub and I'll get lowballed to death, looking to get in the neighborhood of $500. 919.341.9064-Kyle
6/13/2011 4:35:21 PM
Wifi only? If not, a decent price, but if its wifi only, you're asking too much.
6/13/2011 5:30:08 PM
^Yeah, Wifi only. I'll probably end up going the CL as getting asking price on items of this nature hasn't been an issue in the past, just figured I'd give Tdub the opportunity on the off chance someone would bite.

Is the bubbling keyboard coverd under insurance? I have to really press these buttons down Droid 1

To me that sounds like a warranty claim to me. I wouldn't be paying a deductible for that nonsense.

^Just curious why are you going with another rom over CM7?
6/14/2011 1:44:18 PM
my GPS is screwed up after CM7, I guess it's common on the Evos. Installing a Sense ROM is part of the GPS fix (discussed towards the top of this page)]
6/14/2011 2:04:45 PM
I think at this point, Android phones are just boring me. With recent releases, it just seems like they're trying to squeeze out a few fps more and perhaps another hour of battery life with dual-core, bigger/brighter screens with or without 3D, and update the UI slightly with Sense, stock, Touchwiz, etc. None of the changes as of late are really "game changers"...they just seem incremental. Honestly, there's not much difference between a Galaxy S and a S2 (S II if you will) to justify purchasing a new phone. Gingerbread isn't that big of a difference from Froyo and NFC seems to be the only new thing coming up. I've tweaked, I've rooted, I've ROM'ed, and right now it feels like I'm a Windows Mobile 6 user again trying to get my phone to run just a little bit faster or more stable.
6/14/2011 3:27:20 PM
well what are you looking for, there can't be a game changer every month
6/14/2011 4:12:21 PM
^ judging from the other thread, WM7...excites him
6/14/2011 4:21:46 PM
^ it's different. i'm just saying it seems like Android has "peaked".
6/14/2011 4:30:10 PM
lol, wut?
6/14/2011 4:38:07 PM
well, no disrespect to the android community, I personally got tired of trying to measure how much smoother I can swipe between homescreens and how quickly my app drawer shows. how many milliseconds faster my browser can render pocketnow.com vs. another phone just got boring. I also enjoy no longer encountering lag issues. I may go back to android, but it just seems to be a good time to be more open-minded to another OS. I've done my Android > * posts, and the fanhood remains...just waiting on the "next big thing" (no homo). till then, I'm playing the field.
