^I hope any conservative leaning people reading this right now understand that you are never going to be able to reach the level of MAGA that gets you excluded from the RINO label. MAGA is going to keep getting nuttier, and any deviation, any sign you are thinking for yourself, boom, you’re labeled a RINO. Do you think your neighbors have RINO hunting permits?

Why ?

He was responding to Obama suggesting that yesterday's decision was judicial activism / overreach, and was wondering if he'd have the same reaction to Brown v. Board overruling what was seen as an unjust verdict in Plessy v. Ferguson. It's a straw man, but are you surprised? He's not saying to re-litigate Brown v. Board but drawing a false equivalency between Plessy and Roe both being unjust initial verdicts which required judicial correction.

I just was confused by the meaning of your

If it's surprise at the gall to make that comparison, then why? (Why are you surprised at this point?)

Read to me like the overturning of that precedent was bad, but maybe you're right. Not prepared to give these folks much leeway when they make statements that seem extreme.

""President Trump, on behalf of all the MAGA patriots in America, I want to thank you for the historic victory for white life in the Supreme Court yesterday," said Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., as she raised her hands to lead the crowd in Mendon, Ill., in applause."

Perhaps she did misspeak. Perhaps she meant to say "right to life". But the crowd cheered either way.

Quote :
"Miller was elected in 2020. Shortly after she took office in January 2021, she apologized after quoting Hitler in a speech. "I sincerely apologize for any harm my words caused and regret using a reference to one of the most evil dictators in history to illustrate the dangers that outside influences can have on our youth," she wrote then."

https://www.vice.com/en/article/n7zbd7/victor-orban-cpac-texas

Quote :

Orbán is not currently listed on CPAC’s website as a speaker at the August event, but he will share the stage with Rep. Lauren Boebert, Fox News host Sean Hannity, and most likely former President Donald Trump, who is a regular speaker at CPAC conferences.

Trump has repeatedly praised Orbán’s authoritarian leadership style, and sent a video message that was played at the CPAC Hungary event in May.

Orbán has overseen a significant level of democratic backsliding during his 12 years in power. Within months of becoming prime minister, Orbán had taken control of the judiciary and attacked the few financial institutions not under the control of his far-right Fidesz Party.

American conservatives have increasingly fawned over Orbán’s achievements, which in recent years have included an attack on LGBTQ and gender equality—with some measures related to the teaching of gender and sexuality in schools that closely echo the “Don’t Say Gay” bill recently passed in Florida.

Central to everything Orbán does is the promotion of traditional family and Christian values, talking points that have now become a mainstay of the Republican Party’s message."

Blows my mind we aren’t seeing more Congressmen cutting and running from Trump, or even hedging with a “let’s see where the investigation goes.” The entire party really rewards loyalty above all else.

McConnell doesn't seem to give two shits about Trump though, basically ignoring the whole thing.

I agree.
I guess that’s what surprises me, we still haven’t really hit the tipping point yet where the GOP thinks throwing Trump under the bus is a net gain, including in the short term. Sadly, They are probably right because you have to make it through the primaries. I guess behind the scenes their actions might be different, I have to think DeSantis would love for Trump to be wrapped up legal proceedings.

She voted with Trump/GOP 93% of the time. That is basically the definition of "eating your own"... The GOP for all intents and purposes no longer exists-- it's Trump's party/cult. I have no idea why anyone on the left if calling her a hero, either. She's a total piece of shit and the only thing I hope she does is to make it harder for the GOP to put forth a viable candidate in 2024.

These media outlets are so friendly to her now. Its one of those the enemy of my enemy is my friend things. If it were her versus a dem in a general they’d be doing all that gotcha journalism, tripping over themselves with fake outrage to get a quote of her saying something 6 in 10 people agree with. Etc etc etc.

I've never researched it, but I've always been very skeptical on how meaningful stats like these are. How much of that 93% is simply routine shit that was never a political issue? I mean, I would kind of expect that AOC and MTG might also have a pretty high correlation of votes, too (though I could very well be wrong). Anybody know offhand?

^ yeah, AFTER the failed coup attempt happened. She had zero regrets NOT voting to impeach him the first time:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/mar/20/liz-cheney-trump-ukraine-impeachment-capitol-attack

She's a Cheney and a horrible person like her father. She has more to gain politically by trying to bring Trump down and act like a hero than tarnishing the "legacy" of Reaganesque conservatism that made her family so rich by becoming a MAGA like everyone else. She didn't even grow up in Wyoming lol.

I may be reading to much into that response, but to be clear Liz Cheney fucking sucks, her dad should be in jail for war crimes.

She reaped what she sowed.

All that said it would prob have been marginally better to keep her based on the replacement.

If she were a US Senator representing WY, I'd be a lot more worried, but she's not. Her MAGA replacement will be inconsequential in the House (she and MTJ can form a MAGA squad with Boebert for all I care), and Cheney will likely remain where she's spent most of her life (DC area) either going on book/cable news tours or trying to bilk the old guard GOP out of money to fund a campaign against Trump she'll surely lose. She's openly said she's considering a run for the WH, and she doesn't strike me as a stupid person, so this all seems very on brand for her.

I'd say the people of Wyoming deserve better than her or her replacement, but really they don't. Beautiful mountain scenery though, if you can stand the racism/homophobia/ranching "culture"/etc which make it the least populated state in the US for a reason.
