^that is a thing of beauty
1/11/2015 4:12:55 PM
Defense was pretty solid today. Credibility points
1/11/2015 4:42:14 PM
3 games in a row of solid ass defense. theres been changes made. he's simplified it for the players and we are seeing the results.
1/11/2015 4:43:20 PM
The bigs played great today, if he can get that type of production each night we're a force
1/11/2015 4:44:13 PM
...but Herb Sendek was the best
1/11/2015 4:53:24 PM
I've been critical at times but the defensive game plan ok Okafor was perfection. Weak side doubles every touch and just like when UCONN did it to Brand in 99, K had no clue how to counter.
1/12/2015 8:22:04 AM
F it, after the butt slap I'm all in. More credible than Herb or Sidney ever were!
1/12/2015 9:11:38 AM
Hes doing a good job with this team but has no clue how to sub. Fuck.
1/14/2015 8:27:30 PM
face would be proud since his philosophy is play guys until they foul out
1/14/2015 8:31:20 PM
Unless they are tored or not that important hes right
1/14/2015 8:34:12 PM
then end of game management was awful. 7 seconds left down three so in bound the ball in the backcourt to a non-shooter who is lackadaisical bringing the ball up. brilliant
1/14/2015 9:15:20 PM
The zone is all i can really complain about. Lost to a great team by 2.
1/14/2015 9:18:07 PM
he went to zone because they were carving up our man to mangranted its the same "this dumb shit isnt working so let's try some other dumb shit" we've seen before where he's throwing stuff at the wall in desperation but we were screwed either way. probably should have realized it wouldnt be any better when the play we switched to it paige nailed an open 3
1/14/2015 9:22:43 PM
Yeah that 7 seconds remaining inbound nonplay was atrocious.
1/14/2015 9:23:49 PM
Team didn't quit and almost pulled a miracle on night when UNC seemingly couldn't miss, especially Paige, and we couldn't hit the ocean from a beach until the end of the game. Went 1-2 in a one week gauntlet against three top-15 teams and played tough in all three. This is encouraging from our still developing team.
1/14/2015 9:27:49 PM
^I will definitely take that perspective once I momentarily get over tonight's loss.
1/14/2015 9:36:33 PM
i thought we went to the zone when turner picked up his 3rd foul. didn't think it was because they were scoring. they had like 32 points at the half.
1/14/2015 9:41:17 PM
i wonder what we do about the bigs situation. i have a feeling freeman either gets convinced to redshirt next year or one of them transfers
1/14/2015 9:47:11 PM
not sure why either of those would need to happen. yeah, he didn't play much tonight, but he was not very effective. he's played plenty in other games when he was playing better.
1/14/2015 9:52:23 PM
I love Freeman's intensity on the glass, but he is non-existent on offense. I would rather have Anya and/or Washington and/or Abu out there.
1/14/2015 9:54:22 PM
washington probably hires an agent.
1/14/2015 9:55:53 PM
It will be big for Gott to keep all the big men but I have a feeling at least one will go. Just the nature of college basketball these days.Gott has this team fighting. Our bigs are super young and improving. Cat is playing better. Defense improving.I've heard more then enough about how young other teams are but our veterans are three transfer players and one hardly plays. The room for continued improvement is there with the youth and since being called out by Gott the effort and intensity is there. We just go in long painful stretches on offense where we are lost. Especially the first 4 minutes of the game where we must average 2 points. And +1 to Gott for bringing in Turner and Lacey. Imagine this team without them. He really filled some massive recruiting holes that occurred not on his watch.
1/14/2015 10:07:13 PM
Despite my tongue-in-cheek earlier, I did like when he brought Anya and Turner back in with 4 fouls. No sense in sitting them if we lose a lead and the deficit keeps growing.
1/14/2015 10:08:58 PM
I can't figure out why Barber plays so much more than Lee. They should be splitting those minutes.
1/14/2015 10:29:38 PM
Lee had 17 double-digit scoring games last year. dude is probably the 4th best player on the roster Gott is an idiot for not giving him more playing time
1/14/2015 10:57:00 PM
Lee is a good defender but barber is pretty good too. Lee might offer slightly more than barber in scoring because he gets fouled a lot driving but is not much of a shooter either. Barber is a better ball handler in terms of being a point guard. I remember Lee played a little point last year and there were lots of turnovers.
1/14/2015 11:32:10 PM
Lee is fucking terrible and has no upside. It's better to try to develop Cat than go with someone who is just as bad.If Washington isn't rebounding or defending, he needs to sit, regardless of what he scores. Abu, Anya, Washington, and Freeman are all in the same ballpark offensively. You have to pick the two who are defending and rebounding better on that particular night. Washington was getting destroyed today.[Edited on January 14, 2015 at 11:39 PM. Reason : ,]

If you had told me we'd come out of Pitt-UVA-Duke-UNC at 2-2 two months ago, I would gladly have taken it. 4-0 ended up not being completely out of reach. Depending on the ND suspensions, State could easily go 5-1 in the next 6 games. I'll take it. Credible.
1/15/2015 9:02:38 AM
Cat is a sophomore who Gott spent years recruiting. Lee is a senior who will be gone in 3 months. Their offense is similarly limited, their handles are similar. Obviously you play the guy with more upside and that will be here longer.
1/15/2015 9:05:06 AM
^^ What suspensions? I thought they just had a guy (not named Grant) out vs GT due to injury .
1/15/2015 9:08:14 AM
I am still not sure what to think about Cat. I mean I dont see him playing bad constantly, but I also dont feel like he is doing anything special. It kinda feels like he is just a guy out there not really doing a whole lot. I realize he is still learning to be an actual point guard, but I wish I saw a little more offensive push out of him. Seems like we should see more blowing by guys to the basket or drawing and dishing but I just dont feel like I see that very much from him.
1/15/2015 9:30:13 AM
Careful. If you dare to criticize Cat in any way the pitchforks come out. He gets an eternal pass from this fan base.

^Abu and Anya, as raw as they are, are as well.Offensive Game: Washington.........Abu...Anya...............Freeman
1/15/2015 11:23:32 AM
1/15/2015 11:35:09 AM
You are correct.
1/15/2015 11:36:15 AM
Paige was lights out ... even when well defended. Nothing Gott can do about that. Props to him for having another career night against us.Anya was limited by the quick touchy/phantom fouls ... that had more impact on the game than most admit or understand.Washington should have gotten the ball more when we were in offensive depressions ... he was consistent all night (even though I cringe every time he takes a damn jumpshot with two feet on the three pt. line).Lacey was held all night long - you cant ignore that as a ref ... heads should rollCat is a pretty consistent QUICK pt guard. However, he lacks the killer instinct to get the job done. Lacey should have been bringing the ball up the court with 7 left.Gottfried obviously didnt think about them never giving us a chance to shoot the 3 on that possession. If he had, it would have been a screen to lacey with instructions to jump as soon as they came to foul him - and put up a shot if they touch you, pass to turner or cat or washington (hot hand) on the wings if they don't foul you ... but obviously that didnt happen. I blame that on coaching and on Cat's lack of killer instinct in the heat of the moment.[Edited on January 15, 2015 at 12:05 PM. Reason : .]
1/15/2015 11:56:39 AM
yea the 7 seconds left '3 pt needing play' was horribly coached. next time dont even call timeout if you are going to go back on the court being that unprepared.but i still like gottfried a lot, no credibility lost. just a bad coach in those situations. he's better off not even coaching those moments.
1/15/2015 2:48:51 PM
We run the same middle school level play when we nees a 3. Put the shooter on the baseline bigs on each block and run the shooter off them as screens to the same direction the pg dribbles for the 3.
1/15/2015 2:59:03 PM
1/15/2015 3:20:15 PM
Insufferable.
1/15/2015 3:24:11 PM
The sad part about your point is that nba level offense might be even less sophisticated. Get out of your best players way amd watch him score is common late game strategy there.

1/15/2015 6:15:33 PM
1/15/2015 7:25:18 PM
freemans problem is that he tried to add stuff to his game. his whole gimmick last year was that he got the fuck out of the way of the good players and rebounded. this year he comes out and is shooting 16 footers. tyler fucking hansbrough didnt start taking those shots until his senior year. then he gets stuffed trying to post up and now its in his head and he's even getting stuffed on putbacksas for lee, i'm mostly with gott on benching him. there simply isnt the room. but some games he needs to play in place of cat and last night was one of them. lacey wouldve rotated over to the 1 so he wouldnt be guarded by tokoto which wouldve been huge. and while lee in theory brings the same things to the table as cat, he's just more dynamic and decisive in the half court. sometimes thats to his detriment and that's fine - you get him the fuck out of the game when it's not working
1/15/2015 9:14:49 PM
If lacey and lee were the guards, tokoto would still guard lacey.
1/15/2015 9:16:36 PM
Yeah I'm fine with the Martins playing over Lee...a few times Lee has come off the bench and provided a spark. But he's simply not good enough to be getting 15 mins/game
1/16/2015 8:43:27 AM
Going back to the zone after what happended wednesday?
