after the tOSU penalty, I think they skate on this. Clearly the NCAA doesn't give a fuck
12/23/2010 9:43:12 PM
Thats pretty stupid. All I have heard is the OSU players were selling some of their shit that they were awarded. They were not consorting with agents, cheating, and didn't have an assistant coach who was receiving money and in constant contact with an agent.
12/23/2010 9:54:53 PM
Auburn: NCAA investigates, rules Newton eligible, all done in like a weektOSU: NCAA investigates, suspends 5 players for 5 games, done within a week or so to my knowledgeUNC: NCAA investigates...suspends some players for the whole year...some for limited games...still not done[Edited on December 23, 2010 at 9:59 PM. Reason : if the NCAA was going to give UNC a slap on the wrist, why haven't they done it yet]
12/23/2010 9:59:14 PM
well, if the punishment we got for players selling shoes and tickets is at all relevant, I'd love to see how
12/23/2010 10:01:09 PM
My understanding was that the NCAA didn't hand down any penalties (or they were relatively minor) in the end and that Valvano only got ran off (and shitty penalties self-imposed) because of the UNC powered media and pressure from the politicians in charge of the UNC system.[Edited on December 23, 2010 at 10:10 PM. guys, UNC is going to get fucking hammeredthere really is no other option
12/24/2010 10:06:48 AM
the other option is not a damn thing will happen and UNC will only get stronger from it
12/24/2010 10:19:42 AM
you can't seriously think that's going to happenthey disqualified players, they have receipts of current and former players using credit cards issued through an agency for which the ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH was on retainerthe NFL has already suspended the agent -- do not fret, wolfpack, UNC is going to get fucked[Edited on December 24, 2010 at 10:27 AM. Reason : not to mention academic infractions, which the NCAA really doesn't have control over]
12/24/2010 10:27:11 AM
yeah, and how did those academic infractions work out? those guys were kicked out of school like any other student, right? oh, and they aren't being redshirted, right? come on, UNC is gonna skate, and tOSU and Auburn are the proof
12/25/2010 12:50:19 PM
if they were going to skate they would have announced an end to any investigationa letter is coming from the NCAA, I know it's fun to be hyperbolic and whatnot, but if it was over, we would know, not just be guessing.
12/25/2010 4:19:52 PM
i hope right before their bowl game, its announced that a number of players who played all year are held out from the bowl game as additional violations are being investigated

with a 15 page docket for just one 9AM superior court session, I think you can bet dollars to doughnuts that it'll just be a plea entry at best

Probably. He was arrested over a year ago, but the case has been continued multiple times for one reason or another.

Interesting statement from the NCAA released yesterday or today
12/29/2010 2:42:14 PM
cliff's notes:We are going to pound UNC into a muddy hole and not stop until we reach China.
12/29/2010 3:06:40 PM
^ that's how i read that as well. Keep the faith boys. The best part is how on IC they believe they are being unfairly targeted and i kind of agreed TO A SLIVER on an extent but that's because I thought (or at least it was proven) that the Right Reverend Newton had received $$$.HA HAAAAA, burn tarholes, burnnnnn
12/29/2010 3:28:41 PM
the fun part about this is how fucking stupid some of the media people arewatching the Lou Holtzhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh half time comedy extravaganza during the game yesterday, it became apparent that no one at ESPN does research anymore. The fact that there were already rules in place and this very situation had been hashed out by the NCAA was completely ignored.basically those idiots sit behind a desk spout un/under-informed opinions on shit to cater to the lowest common denominatorESPN is like the Fox News of the sports world
12/29/2010 4:24:21 PM
^ seriously, who is the other dude, i forgot his name, Mark Mays? He said something like: "if this had been Arkansas and Ryan Mallet he would be sitting for sure, the NCAA has favorites."What a tool how that guys looks now. ^^^Does Lou have a drinking problem? Why does he talk like that?
12/30/2010 12:31:14 PM
Greg Barnes(IC) was on Taylor Zs show this morning and said he has two inside sources in the NCAA offices that said they will only get a slap on the wrist. No bowl bans and probably no scholarship reductions. Which to me sounds more like a slap on the back.
12/30/2010 12:34:05 PM
because Greg Barnes has been such a reliable source of information. Last ditch effort to secure recruits.
12/30/2010 12:36:07 PM
The NCAA case against UNC hasn't even progressed to the point where any punishments would be determined. It's like a year away from that point. So firstly, the NCAA doesn't leak shit, especially when it's already been brought up that a former UNC-player is on the NCAA investigations staff. If they didn't have it locked down already (they do) they do now.And secondly, there's no punishments to leak.
12/30/2010 2:05:51 PM
Greg Barnes MAY be right, but up to this point, not only has he been wrong, but in some cases he's looked like pure stupid on quite a few stories they ran over there..Remeber how he said something like he had a source that said everything would be decided on the coming friday and it was extremely minor; so that friday came and went only for the next week to have the first inklings of the serious stuff to come out maybe even a suspension or two if i remember correctly.
12/30/2010 3:28:50 PM
the fans on IC think based on tOSU's situation, guys like Austin, Little, and Quinn should be able to play in the bowl game tonight, and that UNC needs to take a stand against the NCAA and play them]
12/30/2010 6:09:21 PM
I too think they should take a stand and play them. They should probably bring Blake back too!

frankly im just amazed that the few unc fans there were able to persevere and face the adversity of travelling ACROSS STATE LINES to make that gameI mean they were just getting used to driving down to charlotte every year

I hate UNC just as much as the next guy (and obviously there should be a run-off rule), but Tennessee shot themselves repeatedly in the foot with stupid penalties at the end.
1/1/2011 4:40:07 PM
^ yup if i didnt know who UNC was playing and you would have told the game recap. I would have said that must have been the Vols that lost. aren't they 0-2 when winning with no time left.
