^lets see which happens first. Zune no Mac or syncing iPhone on linux without a VM for either.

alrighty. i did the restore, which since i followed the directions doesn't really completely wipe your phone it seems. it is better, but it is still draining faster than before. you sit there and watch the numbers click by, but the % drops several points while it's locked. i now have an appt at the apple genius bar for 730pm on friday night

shit like that cracks me up. Its almost as though AT&T is the ONLY provider that sells the iPhone.I guess you could say its the only iPhone provider in a nation that is still in the stone age of mobile phones.
12/10/2009 1:32:18 AM
LOLSomebody who hails from a place that actually does have a stone age mentality saying another place is in a technical stone age.WOW THAT ONE HURT
12/10/2009 8:54:11 AM

hahaha it was probably closer tofinance: we'll make $x profit on each physical devicetech: yea but it will cost us on average $y in data for each phone so x-y=$z which is negativesales: THATS FINE WE"LL MAKE UP FOR IT IN VOLUME!!! HAVE YOU SEEN THESE ADS ITS GONNA BE GREAT!!!!
12/10/2009 12:41:38 PM
same idea that shit happens all the time where i worki've got some funny stories of me showing them how x job is going to make not much money at all..but be a huge pain in our ass. all they hear is "oh, it's bringing x amount of revenue..awesome!"[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 12:49 PM. REVENUE = PROFITDIDN'T YOU KNOW?!?

Marketplace on NPR had a short piece on this Thursday saying that AT&T either has to charge people more for their data usage (which as an iPhone user is complete garbage considering we already pay them $30 a month) or drop their exclusivity to the iPhone. Now I am sure others will have their own ideas but my gut tells me that AT&T will do what's best for them rather than their customers.

if you restore from a backup does it automatically set EVERYTHING back up? like email settings, calendar settings, passwords for things like that, server information for them, etc.?
12/12/2009 7:55:39 PM
afaik, yes
12/12/2009 8:54:18 PM
anyone ever done it?the only reason I am thinking about doing it is to clear up some of the "other" space, currently at 2+ gigs, but not worth it if I have to setup all that shit again
12/12/2009 9:26:40 PM
i've done it several times..i'm almost certain it does.
12/12/2009 9:30:15 PM
yeah ive never had a problem with the restore function. i've done it a number of times, and it feels like the exact same phone afterwards
12/13/2009 10:32:30 AM
yes it does. i just did it twice b/c my phone is confused about it's battery. i went to the store, they did a restore then set up as new phone, now it's spontaneously restarting. WTF just give me a new phone damn it

What does everyone use for their chat app? Currently using nimbuzz, but tried fring. I like the nimbuzz notifications but they're only for an hour. Any good jailbreak ones?

average speed of verizon 3g vs average speed of att edge?Just pulled 70/70 on edge, 1000/250 on 3g, and 7/1mb on my 7/1 wireless network.[Edited on December 14, 2009 at 12:54 PM. Reason : df]
12/14/2009 12:50:19 PM
^why are you comparing 3G to Edge?
12/14/2009 1:00:33 PM
Because the majority of verizon's huge '3g' network is actually pretty slow. However not in a major area like Raleigh.[Edited on December 14, 2009 at 1:52 PM. Reason : *]
12/14/2009 1:50:47 PM
I'd rather slow than non-existant.

12/14/2009 2:28:34 PM
^go to a football game
12/14/2009 2:34:50 PM
^thats beside the point. Raleigh still has coverage...the network being overloaded in a certain area due to high demand is another.
12/14/2009 2:44:29 PM
i'm comparing things because if I can pull down 100kb/s almost anywhere and 1mb/s in any metro area I'd spend time in, and verizon can only offer ~200kb/s in most of their "3G" areas and higher directly in some cities, and the areas with zero coverage are the same for both (in anywhere I'd travel, that is) then I'd prefer AT&T's setup for my personal use. I have pulled over 1.5mb/s regularly on 3G and that lets me get significantly better quality video w/out buffering problems than I can get with verizon out here on most devices.

12/14/2009 8:16:06 PM
I think he's saying he'd rather have slow 3G than non-existent 3G (GPRS or no data), to which I'd have to agree depending on how fast the "slow" 3G is in my home city.really this is a pretty personal decision, like what shampoo you use. I've had AT&T since it was Bell South, and yeah, their network sucks. I STILL get "CALL FAILED" dropped calls out of nowhere, way too often. Football games suck, going out of town, when all the verizon folks have coverage and I don't, sucks. The are holes all over the place...even in Raleigh...often in the low ground, and that sucks too. I still get dropped calls at tower transfers, which sucks (although that issue is getting somewhat better). I'm looking forward to a real competitor to the iPhone so I can jump ship ]
12/14/2009 9:48:35 PM
^me too. i've been looking pretty hard for something else to switch to lately and just havent really found it yet
12/14/2009 9:51:52 PM
I'm not a fan of At/t, but if you try a non I-phone, it's... painful. There's unfortunately no comparison. I had high hopes for the Droid, they were not met. I am curious to see what the update to the iPhone hold for this year.
12/14/2009 11:24:56 PM
any free apps to access my pc from iphone?
12/15/2009 1:23:21 AM
Mocha vnc lite is decent some features are missing tho.
12/15/2009 7:32:20 AM
yea, just go through the VNC programs that are available and find one you like.
12/15/2009 8:05:41 AM
i bet logmein works great, but I don't wanna pay the $30 to find out, anyone use it?
12/15/2009 8:19:09 AM
^yeah i finally broke down and bought logmein. It's simply amazing. It's the best mobile remote software I've seen. One thing that makes it incredibly fluid is you don't actually move the mouse. You move the screen and the mouse pointer stays in the middle. So it's incredibly accurate and very fast (partially based upon your isp's upload). I still think AT&T should combat Verizon by making an international roaming commercial and how much more common GSM is over CDMA around the world. Considering you can't use your Verizon phone unless you're traveling to Asia. Coverage is non-existent in Europe.
12/15/2009 5:17:02 PM
^I use Jaadu VNC. I looked at logmein and compared reviews between both and a lot of people that tried both seemed to like Jaadu VNC.also... http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-10414356-71.html - article about a study that says iPhone users are delusional...lol
12/15/2009 5:22:00 PM
I'll have to check out Jaadu VNC. Only problem is I don't want to run VNC and Logmein now. Trying to stick to one or the other, and logmein is much more versatile.Yeah some iPhone users are crazy. -Oh and i had a question for you guys. I just got back form the UK and iPhones are crazy cheap over there. You can get an iPhone with a 2 year contract for like 50 pounds or even free if it's the right contract. Plus the contracts are like 20-30 pounds/month for unlimited text and internet. I got a 30 day sim card for 15 pounds that had unlimited internet and texts and pay as you go minutes. How can they offer plans so cheap? How do they pay Apple for all those iPhones? I thought AT&T was just breaking even and they charge a lot. v i'll check it out. Doesn't seem to have any features logmein doesn't. I can still use logmein on any computer whereas i'd have to download VNC software to run VNC each time i wanted to log in from a different computer. here is the link to their website if you want to read more about their features. http://www.jaaduvnc.com/featuresworks with gmail, and has an app you run on your desktop that will configure your firewall and device so that you can always find your machine at home even with a dynamic ip.[Edited on December 15, 2009 at 5:41 PM. 12/15/2009 5:54:03 PM
^what? where?
12/15/2009 5:54:42 PM
In the app store. Looks pretty neat. Great graphics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSr4-9WG6NkWas first on my list of featured apps. Stalqer just came out too. Pretty neat. Shows everyone on a map if they update their position within FB. And it'll update your location everytime your phone fetches mail.
12/15/2009 6:44:36 PM
12/15/2009 7:13:45 PM
I installed it and logged in using my facebook account (good that you don't have to create a Stalqer account) and it put all my friends positions on a map. It is kind of annoying though because people who don't have a location it just places randomly all over the globe. I have a few friends in Antarctica. How does it take people's location from facebook? There an option somewhere in facebook to post where you are? Or is it tracking peoples ips when they log into facebook?
