With as crazy as the salaries are getting....his results may actually be worth closer to the $6mil .

I believe Fuente (just fired at VT), Mendenhall (UVA), and Mike Norvell (FSU) were all already north of 4mil. And Narduzzi at Pitt is just shy of collecting 5mil this year...if you take out that 4-8 stinker year, Doeren's actually had a little better results than Narduzzi the last 5 years (and he's done it in the Atlantic).

Not saying I love the idea of paying a 9 win coach 5+ mil a year....but with the money the way it is today, that might just be the market rate now.

Dino kept his job and he is awful. Still clinging to that one fluke year winning 10 games. Outside of that season, he is 19-40!

I've been up and down with Doeren but that is nuts. He is way better than them. We could clearly do much worse. I think the frustrating part is that we are so close in many of these years to taking the next stop and we want Dave to do that. 2 conference losses by 4 points. We're ranked #18 and have a chance to beat a Big12 or Pac12 team in a bowl to win 10 games.

I think it does speak a lot to the culture he has built that we have so many players coming back. Saw a tweet where we were one of only like 6 p5 programs without a player in the portal so far.

^ I think it was with 0 players enter the portal since 8/1. Surely some will transfer. But yeah it feels like he’s built a good culture here. Good foundation. And the trajectory for the program remains positive.

Yeah. That’s the problem with all those buyout contracts. They don’t have any allowance for getting fired for shitty performance. The way I’d have written Jimbo’s is something like if A&M finishes in the bottom quarter of their division 2 years in a row or more then A&M can toss him to the curb with no buyout

Though I'm a big Dave fan in general, I wouldn't give him too much credit for this; to me it's a pretty easy decision. It's basically the situation Kenny Pickett faced last year, where he definitely could get drafted this year (especially cause the qb class is so weak), but it likely wouldn't be til lat, 5th-6th round imo. If he sits another year and does as good as we all think he will, then he's an easy 1st-3rd round pick depending on how things play out.

I think it will be pretty hard for Leary to play himself into "easy 1st round pick" territory. He's short and pretty one dimensional - two things that will always hold a QB back in the eyes of NFL decision makers. Even if he repeats his stats from this year, he's not gonna be a first round pick.

If you want to give him credit for guys returning then maybe he’s more deserving in getting Durden, Moore, Wilson, etc to return than Leary. Don’t think Leary was ever really a serious threat to go pro.

I think Beck deserves criticism for how he calls games but as QB coach, I think he deserves a ton of credit for Leary’s development and even last year Hockman’s development/game planning around Hockman’s weaknesses

If Leary was 6'4 and could run a little bit? Yeah I'd definitely have been worried about him going pro, even with a rather limited sample size as a starter. But since he's maaaaaybe 6'1 and has -20 career rushing yards? Nah not really.

The only way he's becoming a first round pick is if he goes all Joe Burrow on us and breaks like every single season passing record. So i don't think that's happening, but PROVE ME WRONG DEVIN.
