^,^^ Good adviceI've been using this as my lubricant. I use it on my rifle and shotgun. I've heard that break-free clp is the standard. Is the difference negligible or should I switch over? Also, what range ammo do you feed your CZ? I've got some Federal 115 gr. and Winchester 147gr. I intend on trying some Sellier and Bellot because of the decent price.
11/15/2011 10:35:51 AM
it's probably fine, but when it's used up i'd probably go with CLP. i like the aerosol can. on average, CLP seems to make semi autos function better for me.
11/15/2011 11:33:56 AM
Break free clp is also one of the bet rust preventatives, just google some rust tests. I've experimented a little with a few oils and have also found clp to do real well at preventing rust. The lp isn't as good as clp for rust but it is a tiny bit thicker and lubes better. If you clean with clp the. Lube with lp it'll be just as rust resistant as clp alone. I think the cleaner in clp helps the oil stick to the surface. Feed the cz whatever you want. It should work with everything. I personally use Winchester white box and federal champion 115gr fmj. For self defense I use 124gr speer gold dot hp +p.
11/15/2011 11:45:53 AM
how do you deal with SD ammo? Every so often I will switch the top round so I'm not constantly rechambering the same round, but how long do you go before you shoot it all at the range and buy fresh stuff to carry?
11/15/2011 12:22:15 PM
unless it got wet or something i wouldn't worry about changing it

is there a better forum for used gun postings in NC than carolina shooters forum? these folks are fucking idiotic.

I went to the range today to test out the CZ 75B. It feels great in my hand and it put together a very good grouping @10 and 15 yards. I would put it up there with the Sig P226. I intended to put 50 rounds through it. But it's so damn fun to shoot that I went through another box. I field stripped it, cleaned, lubed and put it back together. I am very satisfied with my purchase
11/15/2011 7:03:15 PM
^cool ^^thehighroad.org just list it as local sale only^^^^^ I rotate the first round in the mag and the +1 round. If I've had to rechamber more than a couple of times then I'll break out the calipers and check oal. Usually it's. It an issue though because I don't unload my semiautos often. My semiautos aren't 40s , so I'm not that worried in the first place.[Edited on November 15, 2011 at 7:40 PM. Reason : ]

thehighroad is still a good place because of how much traffic it recieves. You'd be surprised how many guns are sold through that in NC.

suggestions for a dehumidifier for my safe? it doesn't have an outlet, so one of the passive silica bags or whatever they are.
11/16/2011 7:26:06 PM
The one my friend has doesn't have an outlet per say, but does have spots to drill through to wire that sort of thing up. Pack with insulation and it's a null risk because the hole is so small. Is that an option?

Good I guess. Though GRNC seemed to be against it. I really need to read the details on this. While I agree with driver license like recognition, it does concern me that it opens the door for further federal control over CCPs.
11/17/2011 11:16:03 AM
yeah, some people/groups are saying that permit reciprocity should be left up to the statesi think the idea is good, but like you said it could open the door to congress trying to micromanage CCW in the U.S.and even if the national reciprocity bill becomes law, the gun free school zones act makes it difficult to carry in states besides your own without breaking federal law

For those of you who have gone to the gun show to purchase ammo. Are there good deals to be had? I'm looking at this website http://georgia-arms.com/ for some plinking ammo. Price is great, but if the show prices are comparable I could save a bit on the shipping. What do you guys think of professionally reloaded ammo?
11/18/2011 5:08:37 PM
the georgia arms guy usually has the best prices on powder, primers, and other reloading stuff. i usually always end up spending some money with him and he seems knowledgeable. that booth is always pretty busy. i wouldn't hesitate to at least give his ammo a try.
11/18/2011 5:22:04 PM
I;ve used a lot of the georgia arms ammo bought at gun shows. Sometimes it can be more expensive than cheap walmart stuff, but I do have to say I've never had a single problem out of their rounds. You can also deal with them at the gun show, dont forget that. I've gotten them to knock off some money, or throw in an ammo can or two for free if I buy enough ammo to warrant it.Ill be hitting the gun show in charleston the saturday directly after thanksgiving.
11/18/2011 7:08:34 PM
Just saw this on arfcom.
11/19/2011 12:35:48 PM
i just bought 500rds of 40 s&w georgia arms ammo at the charlotte gun show, shot 200 rounds of it so far with no problem, definitely going to buy more when the show comes back
11/19/2011 1:41:27 PM

11/19/2011 6:02:39 PM
I picked up a new LCP and a stripped doublestar lower
11/19/2011 6:20:26 PM
picked up a 1911 today, may go back tomorrow and pick up a pocket 380.... havent decided yet. Pretty sure the 1911 is going to replace my CW9 for every day carry. Took it to the range after the show and fell in love.
11/19/2011 7:38:23 PM
^^^135 for 500 rds
11/19/2011 9:08:14 PM
Ok...I bought some ammo. They shoulda picked a better day for ammo day. It's hard to remember.

I did my part yesterday. Picked up 200 rds of 22 mag hornady vmax

ditto.Went to the Durham wildlife club with a buddy of mine. I've never seen so many failure to feeds/fire from a Glock 17. I don't know if it was just that batch of Rem UMC 9mm, but it also jammed in my CZ. If any of you are into shooting trap or skeet, you should check it out.
11/20/2011 7:02:46 PM
If you got jams in two different guns then the ammo is likely the problem.I've had Remington UMC 45ACP jam in a 1911 more often than other brands.
11/20/2011 11:10:45 PM
need an AR Wrench, anyone have one? or know where to get one locally?
11/22/2011 11:45:59 AM
Everyone needs to pay attention to their local government's actions regarding posting no carrying in parks, etc. Need to stop that crap before it gets too far down the road. The writers of HB650 let this local parks rule start up a shit storm of local governments trying to push their anti-firearm agenda as far as possible.

so PDHSC now has an outdoor range... but for training purposes only; not open to public. the more i go there and deal with PDHSC, the more I don't really care for the employees and attitudes.

i want a safari rifle just for the sake of saying i own one.im thinking CZ 550 or Ruger No 1.dont know what caliber or manufacturer to go with- i know its a silly question but id like opinions.375 H&H seems very flexible. pricey but not as bad as these others.what about CZ in general? im interested in some of their pistols/shotguns as well. anyone have a lot of experience with them?thanks,
11/22/2011 4:12:30 PM
CZs in general are great guns for the money. The designs are very good, parts fit is very good, and exterior finish is generally very good. Interior finish can be a tiny bit rough but not to the point that its ugly or affects functioning. Basically they put the work where it matters and at the price you pay that's usually more than you can expect.550s usually have real good reputations for accuracy and they're strong reliable actions.Ruger No 1s are great guns too. They're usually really accurate and are very simple. They may also be one of the strongest actions in a factory gun.My boss has a No 1 Tropical (schnabel, medium-heavy barrel, sling stud barrel band, rifle sights) in 458 Winmag. 458 Winmag is a beast but in the No1 Tropical it's about as comfortable as it gets in a heavy recoiling gun.Do you reload? Shooting any of the big magnums almost necessitates reloading unless you've got $texas.375 H&H is the standard in safari calibers and you can't really go wrong as there's a wide variety of factory ammo...but I would actually go with the 458 Winmag. 45 cal bullets and 458 brass are often cheaper for the reloader and if brass is scarce then you can blow out some 7mm mag cases. It really just depends on what you like. The 375 will have a trajectory advantage but if you want to make really really big and deep holes (my boss has taken two deer with one shot and probably could have taken 3 more if they lined up) and possibly shoot for less money then the 458 would be better. You can have better terminal performance with the bigger bullets with less wear and tear on your body and the gun too.If you don't reload you might want something like the 375 Winmag. I think factory ammo is cheaper.Hell...why not go for something like the 458 Lott?
11/22/2011 4:41:05 PM
nah.i dont want to be knocked on my ass-got a 3.5 inch 12 gauge to do that for me.im leaning towards the 550 in 375 H&H. i like the razorback stock as well (love open sights).anything else obvious i should be considering? what about proprietary cartridges by ruger like the 375 and 416? the 416 especially seems neat but hornady is the only manufacturer and they only offer two loads (solid and soft).oh and thanks for your rem 700 advice the other day (forgot to message you back).

I think a classic 45-70 guide gun would be a lot of funhttps://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/57852
11/22/2011 5:10:38 PM
unless you actually plan to go on a dangerous game hunt in africa, i would suggest getting a 45-70 instead. the novelty of extremely heavy recoil wears off quickly and there's nothing lamer than a gun sitting in a safe and never being shot (unless it's an antique or heirloom, of course). 45-70 recoils hard enough to give you your mule kick fix and is actually useful in north america. the 45-70 will take anything from bison to bear to whitetail and has seen a resurgence in popularity because deer hunters found that their .50 cal muzzleloaders kill pretty much anytime they hit fur and the 45-70 gives the same results during rifle season. imo, it'll be more fun, cheaper, and more useful than any of the typical "safari" cartridges.also, i think you should really consider getting into reloading. you can use the 45-70 to its full capability when you can work below and above what is available in the store. this goes for most other cartridges as well. i can load .270 win with tailor-made 90 grain hollowpoints and have one gun that will smoke deer and groundhogs. just zero to the MPBR for the deer rounds and then play at the range to figure out how far under the varmint to aim at 50 yd intervals or whatever works best.but, by all means, get what you want. you'll be much happier if you do. the trick is making sure you know what you really want and why you want it (which sometimes is just "because i do").also:so, i got a stripped lower. now where do i go from here? what's a good lower parts kit for me? this is going to be a "walking varminter" hunting rifle, so i'd like a smooth, crisp trigger. i held a few ARs at the gun show and i think a 20" bbl will suit my uses well. school me on bbl profiles. i want to keep the weight low, but maintain minute-of-groundhog accuracy out to about 200 yds. explain HBAR, pencil, etc. a heavy fluted bbl might be light enough, but if i can keep it accurate with a skinny bbl, that'd be better. also, please explain this carbine, midlength, and rifle length gas system stuff. what do i want and what do i need to know about it? should i purchase a complete upper or build my own? what special tools/knowledge does it require to build your own upper? what about the other parts in the upper? idk what all is included in there.[Edited on November 22, 2011 at 6:36 PM. If I wanted to replace my bolt carrier groups on my 2 AR15s with something upgraded from the standard ones, does anyone know a good recommendation? I looked into the chrome ones that are supposed to last longer. Also I know some bolt groups have better gas rings and extractor springs. I am looking for a bolt group that will last longer than the standard ones, and just keep the standard as backups.

in your personal opinion, was the timney trigger worth the money?
11/22/2011 7:15:14 PM
I can't answer that honestly yet.I've dry fired it, and it is fantastic compared to the DD stock trigger. Haven't put any rounds through the rifle with it yet, as I'm on a bullet using break right now. I'm saving up for my trip to Glock in Georgia in the beginning of December. It is one of the budget balancing acts I'm working on with the wife. I can only spend up to $200 a month on gun stuff (without prior planning and approval), and I'm at that limit. The trip to GA is using that budget and then some for December.I'll let you know in January how awesome the trigger is. It is a Timney 4lb Skeletonized btw.
11/22/2011 7:26:05 PM
i'll just put the standard one in and if it gets on my nerves i'll replace it.
