So a few months ago, the company idiot screwed up some stuff, I mean he might have fucked the company big time if what he was doing the wrong way went unnoticed.

I call him on the phone, ask him if he is by himself, and help him through getting it all fixed before anyone else ever knew about it. He tells me he owes me one.

Now, I made a small mistake, nothing detrimental, however somewhat embarrassing, but it could have been easily fixed quickly, and he emails me about it: CC my boss, my boss's boss, and a few other higher ups.


and I saved this dickhead's job awhile back

To the 50-60 year olds at my work:
- I don't give a shit that your son is a recovering drug addict who lives with you.
- I don't care that you can't afford to take care of one of your 3 dogs.
- I don't care that your mechanic wants to date you.
- I don't care that you haven't eaten anything for 24 hours or that you only had 2 hours of sleep last night.
- I don't care that your estranged husband called an unlisted number (which somehow means he is calling a hitman).
- I don't care that you need a ride home from work (adding 1 hour to my already 40 minute commute).
- I don't care about some story that happened when you were in the navy 30 years ago that takes 30 minutes to tell.

how about people who say hello to literally EVERY PERSON in your vicinity, make eye contact with you, then turn around and leave. and you don't even work in the same department as this person, neither do the people around you, so they shouldn't have any reason to be disrespectful to you. other than their inappropriate relationship with one of your supervisors who holds a superficial grudge against you for something that happened years ago that turned out to be a misunderstanding and was taken care of completely, positively, and appropriately.

There are 3 recent moms in my office. Only one of them though finds the need to turn half the break room into her personal breast pumping station, usually during the highest traffic periods (aka right around noon, 9 AM, and right around closing time) when people need to access the refrigerator in that area .

As I post this my lunch is locked out while this woman does her motherly duties. Can she not do this in the bathroom? What are the other 2 moms doing? Except for maybe a midday pump, i don't even see why she can't be doing this at home in the instance of the 9 AM and end of the day.

^^^I hear ya. But if you know she usually goes in there around noon, then grab your lunch at 11 or 1.

I think it'd be cool if she was more considerate. But we supposedly value mothers and children or whatever...so they gotta have a place to get their pump on as needed.

So should the company build a new room for her to use? Or if there's a few people in cubicles in one office, force them to work in the hall and give her the office?

I've done 3 of these in the last year, its pretty common. You don't generally lose an office, all 3 of my projects were storage closets. All we had to do was install a better light, paint and spackle, bring in a comfortable chair, side table, and hang a pretty picture on the wall.

sounds like your company isn't fulfilling their duty to provide a private space and at least one of the moms is upset

we have a room with a keypad that has an occupied / vacant sign that can be flipped outside of the room - inside there is a couch / fridge for storage

She probably is just trying to passive-aggressively point out there is no allocated room to do this. However, by law she's allowed to be allocated a milking room. For shits and giggles, though, and to show her its great that she can use the breakroom solely at her leisure, I'd probably just go in to the breakroom before she does one day, and lock the door to eat my lunch.

I know that it's kinda rude to lock the door and all, but I would be more pissed at your company than her. If I were pumping milk for my baby, I wouldn't want to do it in the work bathroom.

As cliche as the phrase is... would you want your meal to be prepped in the bathroom?

I'd have no problems doing that in the restroom. And inconveniencing an entire office of people is pretty immature and obviously inconsiderate. But that's an individual matter. Clearly, the company should provide another place for her to do her milk business so this won't be an issue.

I just find it unnecessary for every business in this great country to have a designated "milking room". Although I guess I understand why some people wouldn't prefer to do it in the restroom, but I don't think that would be a big deal.

Most companies have a "milking room" but they usually call it a wellness room, or health room, etc. Anyone can still use it (i.e. taking a 30 minute break if you have a bad headache).

If you can't be a responsible business and provide necessities for your employees (bathroom, water, a place to nurse/pump), then you should allow your employees to do it offsite with no questions asked.

I've worked at multiple offices and been to others, and I'm not familiar with a "wellness room" or "health room". All have had a break room with a microwave and refrigerator for everyone's coffee and lunch.

Do you even know if the other two moms are breastfeeding? The reasons for avoiding the bathroom should be obvious, even for a 'considerate' person, if they're not just going to pump and dump. though realistically, the break room is probably smeared with just as much shit as the bathroom. get an icepack and bring your lunch to your desk in the morning if you can't bear to be separated from your food for 10 minutes.

How are you going to use a bathroom? You can't stand up and pump. What are you supposed to do, sit on the dirty toilet seat for 20 minutes? Doesn't work. Trust me, I have tried it. I'm sure people would then have a legitimate complaint about needing to use the bathroom and not being able to do it.

It's already stressful enough to pump at work, but throw in a bunch of coworkers with their panties in a wad and I'm sure she's more pissed off about it than you are. She's trying to provide what she feels is the best for her baby, and you're over here questioning her decision. The more you jiggle that door handle, the longer it takes her to produce milk.

As a mother who pumps and works, I can tell you that pumping on a schedule is an absolute necessity. You can't just cut out a morning or afternoon pumping session because Joe Blow wants access to the refrigerator. That would mean pumping Mama over here is in physical pain from not being allowed to pump, possibly leaking through her shirt, and she's at risk of decreasing her milk supply. (The more you pump, the more you produce).

And she is not the one who is inconveniencing her entire office, that would be the boss who told her where to pump. If there's an alternative, I'm certain she'd be happy to hear it.

Fine, companies that must follow the FLSA (most firms with an annual $500,000 volume of business, hospitals, schools and institutions of higher education, and federal, state, and local government agencies) should have this room.

My wife's company provides a lactation room. It's a big company with enough new moms that its occupied 8 hours a day.

When our second was born, she was able to get a hospital grade pump which is almost silent. She just put on a baggy shirt and hands free bra and did it at her desk. That was until we hit some sleep issues and she was able to talk her boss into telecommuting for a few months so she can get an extra hour of sleep and nurse him while working.

you aren't required to have a separate room, using a break room is fine. the law allows scheduling certain times, so there is no reason why they couldn't set a schedule for the break room.

if your office has an HR department you should ask them if they can ask the person to let HR know what schedule they need the room

god people are really annoying today. we have this guy whose (32) and yells like a little bitch every time something doesnt go his way. i mean he basically sounds like hes about to start crying. its not personal. its business. grow up. fix it. deal with it.

The restroom. You put a chair in there and pump.

I mean, I'm on board with these lactation rooms, but let's not act like the restroom is totally unacceptable...not when that's what a lot of women have been doing this whole time. And is a break room really that much more desirable? It's a break room.

The bathroom sounds like a horrible idea. Breastmilk isn't pasteurized, and is extremely vulnerable to bacteria. Its then fed to infants with very weak immune systems.

You wouldn't eat food someone prepared in a bathroom or let a nurse or doctor take blood or give you a shot in the same room with fecal matter.

If there's no other room this woman can get privacy than the break room, then there's really no choice.

Bullshit. It's not hard to wash your hands and avoid rubbing your pump all over the floor.

And are we seriously pretending that the break room is that much cleaner than the restroom?

Again, lactation rooms are great, but please, please don't cry about using a restroom to pump milk.
