3/20/2009 11:59:55 AM

3/20/2009 7:21:15 PM
Not a great quality shot...wish I could have got closer before he flew away

Shot the Canes game tonight...with a 4x5 Large format camera. LOL
3/21/2009 2:44:44 AM
haha, how old is that one?
3/21/2009 8:38:01 AM
Got a new laptop. the screen is much better than my old POS CRT. Do these colors look right to the rest of you?[Edited on March 21, 2009 at 3:44 PM. Reason : .]
3/21/2009 3:43:42 PM
there is a LOT going on in that shot...whew! As far as color goes it looks fine on my screen. The whites and blacks look correct. As far as beyond that, it depends on what you're going for.
3/21/2009 5:11:44 PM
The 4x5 one has been at our college since the photography department opened in the 60's so it's at least that old and I think they bought them used then. That model is probably from the 30's, but we have some newer modular 4x5's from the 70's, but we only have like 5 of them.
3/21/2009 8:39:57 PM
you're a fucking dork, dude. hah
3/21/2009 11:48:07 PM
Shut the fuck up, 4x5's are sweet as shit.
3/21/2009 11:49:52 PM

3/22/2009 4:07:03 AM
JBaz and I were in there corner for the first period. After that he shot from the third level I believe.
3/22/2009 9:48:06 AM
I haven't gone through all my shots yet, but I thought this was amusing. Larose's face as he's going to give someone the business against the boards makes me laff. Pardon the HUGE, out of focus pictures.
3/22/2009 10:19:07 AM
givin' em the red x
3/22/2009 1:28:17 PM
i know this is a DSLR thread, but as there are a few of us who contribute prosumer shots, i was hoping to get an opinion from those of you who know more than me (which is most of you)...i have to get a non-DSLR camera for work, and i've narrowed it down to the fujifilm finepix S100fs and the canon powershot SX1 IS (releases next month, i believe)the big thing that the fujifilm has going for it is an 11.1MP 2/3" (19MP/cm2 or 0.58cm2) sensor versus the canon's 10MP 1/2.3" (35MP/cm2 or 0.38cm2) sensorpast that, the canon is $100 more, has 20x (560mm) optical zoom (instead of 14.3x 400mm on the fujifilm), 1080p video recording, and a slightly larger aperture range (5.7 max versus 5.3)...the SX1 has a CMOS sensor instead of a CCD, but i've yet to find any valid argument for one being better than the otheranyone have experience with either of these? or, rather, any strong views regarding the CMOS sensor in the canon? it's their first non-DSLR CMOS camera, i think
3/23/2009 3:55:17 PM
get that sexy new Sigma.
3/23/2009 4:21:47 PM
just processed my first set of 4x5 film and they actually turned out pretty decent. nothing spectacular, but a really cool process. I'm really digging film now.
3/24/2009 12:44:24 AM
everything old is new again
3/24/2009 12:45:29 AM
I keep looking at buying a new lens, or a flash. But everything seems to point back to getting a new body at this point.. can't decide between 40D or 50D.[Edited on March 24, 2009 at 3:35 AM. Reason : .]
3/24/2009 3:35:00 AM
Don't get a new body. There's nothing wrong with the xt (or xti) you shoot with now. Lenses will hold you back a lot more than the body will. Seriously, don't make the mistake of not realizing that the quality of glass has more of an impact on your photos than an extra megapixel or frame per second. Get glass now, since they hold value, and worry about a body next.
3/24/2009 8:10:35 AM
The thing about glass at this point is, I can check out pretty much any lens I'll need in my school's equipment room pretty much whenever...speaking of glass, is the 70-200 worth the extra $700 or whatever for IS? I'm leaning no...[Edited on March 24, 2009 at 11:41 AM. Reason : .]
3/24/2009 11:12:36 AM
In my opinion, no. I believe this has been discussed already, but for most people and most applications, no. Sure it would be nice to have, but I'd rather have the 700 bucks.
3/24/2009 2:19:02 PM
^^ Not really. At least in my use, I'm shooting with enough ambient light that my shutter speed is high enough that it doesn't matter. It's a pretty sweet lens.
3/24/2009 2:32:53 PM
Yeah I figured, thanks.Right now I have: The XSi kit lens, a 50mm 1.4, 70-300 4-5.6(will probably sell to help with 70-200 if I get one now-ish), tokina 11-16 (<3)just checked out the equipment room's 70-200 and a 300 2.8 for baseball again tonight.
3/24/2009 2:37:23 PM
If you are looking to upgrade, grab a 40D. It maybe produce a smaller image size, but the speed, ergonomics, and functions is much better and they aren't that expensive of an upgrade, specially refurb. My roommate just picked up a refurb 40D for 700 straight from Adorama. But if you plan on just doing sports, look into buying a cheap used 1DmkII. I've seen those go around 900-1200, but be warned, when you go 1D, it's hard to use anything less than it. Check sports shooter and canon forums for used gear.
3/24/2009 3:53:39 PM
^ my moms got a 40D and the ergonomics are fantastic.

yeah...would be a nice step up from a base rebel xt or xtibut i gots no moneys
3/25/2009 9:53:47 AM
Wow, awesome. What is the Nikon going to come up with to beat that??
3/25/2009 1:06:00 PM
oh that's freakin awesome.might have to look into one o dem
3/25/2009 1:07:42 PM
^^ Seems like that and the D90 are in the same class. The D90's about $100 more, but it has more wheels and a top LCD. They're both pretty neat, though, thassfersure.[Edited on March 25, 2009 at 2:53 PM. Reason : ..]
3/25/2009 2:43:44 PM
More expensive than Canon's and the video mode isn't as impressive... plus I don't know if the d90 would be considered entry level like the T1i is going for...
3/25/2009 2:54:04 PM
A few from a wedding this past weekend.
3/25/2009 7:15:22 PM
wow, the 500d looks pretty sweet. makes me sad that I spent all this money on the 5DmkII. ohz wellz.

Ug. Anyone take their dslr out in inclement or really cold weather? I lugged my damn dslr up 5000 ft in the High Sierra but the damn thing wouldn't turn on when I wanted it most. Two thousand feet up on the right ridge in this photo we were caught in 40-50 mph winds and being blasted by spin drift:[Edited on March 26, 2009 at 12:59 AM. Reason : x]
