^^ if you have pics, post em up. Know someone who tried to get down from raleigh yesterday, 8 hours later they were back in raleigh with no success.
9/16/2018 12:56:31 PM
They've shut down 40 from the 95 intersection on towards Wilmington.Wayne, Duplin and Sampson counties got clobbered with Rain, Neuse river is supposed to crest tomorrow at or near record levels. And it's still raining.

A lot of flooding at the hog farms in NC. Hopefully this will wipe out eastern nc style bbq for good.
9/16/2018 2:09:42 PM
Nah, they already moved all the animals in flood prone areas well ahead of the storm.Your hogs are good.
9/16/2018 2:40:35 PM
Are we gonna end up with hog waste in all the rivers and whatnot or did they figure out how to manage that properly
9/16/2018 3:22:48 PM
Was wondering the same thing myself
9/16/2018 3:31:00 PM
lol manage that properly
9/16/2018 4:25:01 PM
We still use open pits, they will flood
9/16/2018 4:30:16 PM
Seems most people around here (western joco) have had power restored. I’ve got 11.25” rain so far and still getting some. Luckily no real damage at my farm.
9/16/2018 4:46:29 PM
Coast guard helicopter just flew over my house
9/16/2018 5:03:15 PM
Actually the townships and cities that have waste treatment plants should be more of an issue than hog lagoons.Id rather have pig shit on me than human shit.
9/16/2018 7:07:25 PM
Pigs definitely seem to like it.
9/16/2018 7:43:24 PM
that seems like an odd preference to be stated with such certainty

We just pre-looted our house and got all of the electronics sand valuables out. Called the insurance company to see about getting loss of use coverage. The adjuster will call us back tomorrow. Called ECU dead of students and left a message explaining my situation. They will hopefully call back tomorrow.Even if power is restored tomorrow, our house will still require extensive electrical and plumbing work. As well as removal of all rain damaged stuff inside. Also found out that FEMA will provide assistance if insurance cant cover all needs. Just making sense of what is up and down now. I'm happy we didnt leave so we can take care of all of this now.[Edited on September 16, 2018 at 8:00 PM. Reason : ]

"Hurricane Will Likely Cover North Carolina in Hog Feces, As Manure “Lagoons” at Factory Farms Overflow"https://returntonow.net/2018/09/13/nc-hurricane-manure-lagoons/
9/16/2018 7:58:58 PM
That thing is fullllll of false statements and facts. She obviously has no idea what she's talking about. Chemicals in lagoons and it messing up the oceans? PleaseReferences Floyd that happened in 1999 as well and those numbers are way off. Can't trust that site nor that lady Langly with the river keepers. They are full of it.But people will believe what they want depending on which side of the narrative they are on. And if they are truly educated on the subject.[Edited on September 16, 2018 at 8:38 PM. Reason : r][Edited on September 16, 2018 at 8:39 PM. Reason : g]

^Yeh the website looks sketch to me. I just saw it on reddit and saw you people talking about it on TWW. I've never stepped foot on a farm, but I've eaten my fair share of shitty ass eastern style bbq.
9/16/2018 10:27:23 PM
^^ can you post a rebuttal? I mean if it's all hogshit that's made up, it should be pretty easy to discredit, no? I mean just by looking at the crappy wordpress layout, I am skeptical, but please, I have a match.

They're claiming the lagoons were at a low before the storm because the manure had recently been sprayed out as fertilizer for the summer growing season. The official word is that--currently--rainfall has not exceeded lagoons' capacity "on whole" across the state.Evidently, lagoons are required to meet a minimum buffer at all times in case of flooding. I can't quickly find what that minimum is exactly, but the NC Pork Council stated that most farms in the "major production area" had a buffer of 25 inches ahead of the storm and some had more than that. The vague language in both the before and after statements leads me to believe that they really are trying a little harder each storm to prevent lagoon flooding, but they couldn't and aren't making any promises. Hopefully, no lagoon walls have completely failed.http://www.ncpork.org/prepared/https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-09-16/hog-manure-lagoons-stay-contained-as-rains-pummel-north-carolinaOther links reveal that they are trying, but they're still not doing enough--even when there is no approaching storm. Big lagoon disasters usually end up having the whole area shut down, but there are lesser infractions occurring routinely, and they are not self-reported for obvious reasons. And I don't think this riverkeeper lady, Ms. Langley, is crazy for suggesting that they resort to "overfertilizing" when they have to deal with a bunch of waste really fast.In general, it seems to me that rural folks are defensive because they know hog farmers, and they know how hard and unrewarding the work can be. So it's important to hold places like Smithfield accountable for this environmental stuff--not the actual farmers who are also harmed by our lust for cheap pork.[Edited on September 17, 2018 at 5:24 AM. Yeah, let's worry about the highly regulated hog lagoons when massive amounts of human shit regularly end up in drinking water, include the huge one that happened because of Florence. Also that coal ash pond breach is much more concerning. At least McCrory isn't still governer as he would just let his buddies off with another slap on the wrist for poisoning a bunch of people/an entire ecosystem.
9/17/2018 5:34:25 AM
LOL, your post is not irrational or defensive at all.

At least 2 tornado warnings within an hour or so broadcast through the Duke Alert system for Duke's campus (and I guess Durham in general).

bad day for eastern barbecue so a good day for us, amirite
9/17/2018 12:09:21 PM
There's really no debate to be had between eastern and western style bbq. Vinegar has no place in pork.
9/17/2018 12:14:38 PM
There's a video floating around on facebook of a Durham school bus driving through water most of the way up the tire...
9/17/2018 12:15:42 PM
Now that the sexiness of calling it a hurricane/tropical storm is over, and the real news is way less exotic (ugh, flooding? Sounds so Midwestern/boring), the major news outlets are dropping their 24/7 coverage like a hot potato.
