for every Packers Super Bowl there are a half dozen Giants and Steelers and Ravens Super Bowl winners...besides, the Packers only gave up more than 20 points 4 times during that seasonand I wouldn't call the Manning Colts a hurry up offense, when you rush to the line, then spend 20 seconds calling audibles every play
9/13/2013 3:02:07 PM
an above average to elite offense and an average defense wins championshipspeople who are stuck in the past (Ron Rivera) still think that defense wins championships, which is absurd given the rule changes/offensive innovation
9/13/2013 3:13:30 PM
equally as absurd as people who think just because teams pass a lot more in today's NFL, that offense is more important than defenseeven Manning's Colts, who had the worst run defense in the league in the regular season the year they won it all, had the BEST run defense in the playoffs...the Saints beat the Colts in one of the rare offense vs offense Super Bowls, in a relatively low scoring game, on a critical interception...the Giants defense won out over two of the most explosive offenses in league history...big time offenses can get you to the playoffs, and then you'll lose to a good defensive team, like Jaybee's Falcons have done the last few yearsand i agree Rivera is stuck in the past. but lol at average defenses winning championships[Edited on September 13, 2013 at 3:27 PM. Reason : .]
9/13/2013 3:24:47 PM
one Super Bowl clinching interception does not mean that the Saints had anything other than an average defense that yearkinda silly to use that as an example
9/13/2013 7:16:36 PM
the Saints were 2nd in the league that year in forcing turnoversi only used them as an example that even the only time two high power offenses with averages defenses have ever made the Super Bowl, the game was still decided by defensehigh octane offenses winning the Super Bowl are the outlier
9/13/2013 7:35:06 PM
i mean obviously they are both equally important. And baltimore won the super bowl just last year with a below average defense and Chicago didn't even make the playoffs with one of the all-time great defenses.[Edited on September 14, 2013 at 1:03 PM. Reason : a]
9/14/2013 1:01:05 PM
the Bears last year were 8th in passing yards allowed, 8th in rushing yards allowed, 3rd in rushing touchdowns allowed, 9th in passing TDs allowed, 5th in total yards per play, and 3rd in scoring defense. They did lead the league in interceptions as well.Thats a top-5 defense in the 2012 NFL season. Not one of the all time greats. Half of the NFC West had better defenses last year.

Only you can prevent forest firesgiving face the reaction he wants[Edited on September 14, 2013 at 1:29 PM. Reason : how could i forget the smoky the bear line]
9/14/2013 1:23:27 PM
CRIPPLE FIGHT!!!
9/14/2013 1:31:27 PM
No, the bears were inarguably an all-time great defense last season.Notice you forgot to mention the 200 touchdowns they scored.Yards are a counting statistic. It's like saying you're good at math because you counted to 28,456 one time. I could do that too, but the time would be better served mastering advanced mathematics instead of counting numbers.[Edited on September 14, 2013 at 3:21 PM. Reason : a]
9/14/2013 3:20:27 PM
They scored 10 touchdowns on defense last year. The Chargers scored 7. Lets put that beatup Chargers defense on the all-time greats list too.Just cause a defense gets you a lot of points in fantasy football doesn't mean they can hold a candle to some defenses in the past that would allow 7 points a game for a whole season. The Seahawks allowed less points than the Bears last year, and less touchdowns. Throw yards out the window, Seattle's defense was better than Chicago's last year. ]
9/14/2013 3:44:21 PM
You're such a fucking simpleton. It's like you stopped getting smarter after you turned 12. You're one of those guys that drops comments like "Oh Joe Haden is a beast" just because you know his Madden rating.Statistically, the difference between the Bears defense and the #2 defense (Seattle) was as wide as the gap between the #2 defense (Seattle) and the #13 defense (Pittsburgh). It's one of the greatest defensive efficiencies ever posted in the past 25 years of the NFL.
9/14/2013 6:09:20 PM
Uh oh. Face's mom tied his shoes too tight today.
9/14/2013 6:11:06 PM
Pittsburgh in 2008 had a DVOA of -29.0% and Baltimore's that year was -27.8%. Buffalo in 2004 was -28.5%. All better than Chicago's defense last year.In other words, its not even one of the top-3 greatest defensive efficiencies in the last 10 years.]
9/14/2013 6:17:45 PM
It's still up there as ONE of the best. And they didn't make the playoffs that was the point. It was significantly better than everyone else in the league including Seattle/SF who everyone would agree were very, very good defenses. And yes they did fall apart right at the end of the year as Urlacher and a few other injuries crippled them. Through the first 10 games or so they were rated #1 though i believe.

I was listening to NFL Radio for a bit tonight...the Bills radio guy, some former Bills player I can't recall, said our linebackers were Kuechly, Thomas, and Davis, and that he was really worried about Brandon Lafell

I don't care. Throw it away. Throw it 40 yards downfield to lafell when he's one on one. Maybe it'll get picked but try something[Edited on September 15, 2013 at 1:33 PM. Reason : Like that]
