^^they're supposedly putting extra emphasis on handling this time around on the WRX, not just the STI. If the production car looks at all like the concept there's a decent chance I'll sell my BRZ for one. I'd rather have a good handling fast forced induction sedan with a factory warranty than a good handling fast forced induction coupe with voided warranty.

That's why you should buy a ford if you want to mod it

i got him to test drive a 2011 mustang and he liked it cept the interior... but then the only one left on the lot was like a fleet vehicle.... the only option it had was the 5.0
3/31/2013 7:54:52 PM
Test drove a c6 Z51. It was... quite nice... I was actually quite impressed. Overall, it felt pretty good, with my biggest immediate gripe being the clunky shifter (something I could get used to) I felt the weight, as I'm used to 2,400lb-2,800lb '80's sports cars, but i wasn't too bothered by the Z51... It didn't feel as physically big as I remember when I first sat in one ~6 years ago at an auto show. I didn't push it hard (hit around .75G's a couple times) in the corners (country backroads), but damn if I couldn't see myself buying one... It's a practical two seater that offers a lot of bang for buck... [Edited on March 31, 2013 at 8:47 PM. Reason : .]

That's a lot of money for a car you can lower for basically free and some interior differences.

I know...it's a dilemma. The BRZ is so gutless...but the handling is top notch. I really can't wait to take it to the track. Cornering grip is impressive given the tires and it's quite benign. Threw it really hard into an interstate on ramp earlier today and when the front started to slip I adjusted and transferred some weight rearward and could feel quite well what was going on at each end.

It's simple in these affordable cars that handle like a dream you gett an engine in them that doesn't have the capability of upsetting the chassis or adding any significant force or moment into the equation. If you've ever been to a drag race and seen how much this cars twist on launch it will make sense that with 600hp or better the equal and opposite reaction to 600 ft-lbs can lift a tre completely off the ground. I'm sure this could upset handling.Basically to make an affordinbly awesome car the first note on the calculation is:1. Assume engine dynamic load is insignificant.[Edited on April 1, 2013 at 7:18 AM. Reason : .]

Totally agreed. That's why I think a positive displacement supercharger is the way to go, maintaining a linear power curve and only boosting horsepower around 50%. Turbocharging and adding 70-100% more power would definitely be too much for the car without further modifications to the chassis/suspension.
4/1/2013 8:36:36 AM
ok here is where you're mistaken... supercharger adds 50% to the crank hp... however that's after it pulled off the additional 20% the turbo would give you to mechanically spin the compressor (where the turbo reclaims exhaust energy and has a mild hp loss do to increased back pressure [next to nothing if the turbine & housing are correctly sized..]) the torque on the chassis would be greater in a supercharged car per horsepower than a turbo car because of this. (this is also why 1000hp supercharger engines blow up more then 1200hp turbo engines built on the same engine... you don't see the power but the engine and chassis still get the stress from it.... that and turbo intercoolers tend to be significantly more efficient since they aren't limited to the space between the blower and the lower intake.)[Edited on April 1, 2013 at 9:09 AM. That's a good point, but I thought it would be less of an issue on a smaller engine.

I like that Mach 40 better than the GT40especially since the doors aren't part of the roof
4/2/2013 6:51:41 PM
Such a h8er Seriously tho ford gt is one of the best looking cars ever the original is #1 the f1 is number two.The ford gt is actually third.
4/2/2013 7:11:34 PM
To the BRZ points above...I'm not sure I understand spending ~$28k on a car....and then spending $5k on a turbo/supercharger....and then spending another $700 on pads/rotors that are already underpowered for the track.....and then whatever is needed from blasting that much additional power. If you're going to be $35k out of pocket, surely you can do better - elise, m3, z4m coupe, z3m coupe with the s54 engine, c6 vette, cayman s, 911, two s2000s, wrx/evo if you want newer, etc. I get it that they're not the new hotness and that most are not as 'light' or 'pure', but you can get way more car. You can find me in a used cayman s for that price. Am I missing something here?
4/2/2013 7:25:50 PM
No.. That's pretty much the consensus.. They will make an sti and it will be an awesome track car but until then voiding warranty on a new car makes it as attractive as a well kept out of warranty car that would already be faster more track ready and probably have a better build quality. We all know this.
4/2/2013 7:58:45 PM
Yes. Too slow, I don't want to modify, will not buy.
