Does it come with a free shirt?
8/31/2011 1:20:25 PM
No, but it comes with not having to wait outside in the rain.
8/31/2011 1:50:50 PM
It came with a free banana flavored condom and a free newcastle bottle opener among other things.

Let's look at the forecast, shall we?Lookin' good for that weekend for now...Anyway, I'm VIP this year, but only due to helping out with promotional stuff. I'm not sure buying VIP this year would be worth it based on it not seeming as much like something would be crowded enough this year to warrant it. Last year I don't remember many issues with people not getting into shows, except for two: Best Coast and Megafaun, and I heard that Megafaun was so bad that it got to the point of them not letting in VIPs at some point...Oh, and I think it should come with a free shirt is all I'm sayin.
8/31/2011 1:57:33 PM
Also, it comes with the cred of having a VIP pass.
8/31/2011 2:03:25 PM
You get more cred with an artist pass.
8/31/2011 2:08:15 PM
free food and drank at the day parties for vip
8/31/2011 3:23:58 PM
Excuse me, did you say shirt? No?Not interested.
8/31/2011 3:44:37 PM
shit horse will be making shirts and giving them out preshow to vips[j/k]or am i?
[i am]
8/31/2011 4:26:25 PM
will VIPS get free food/booze at the lenovo lounge this year too?
8/31/2011 7:00:33 PM
still no details about the VIP opening night party
8/31/2011 11:48:12 PM
VIP party is a go[Edited on September 2, 2011 at 5:10 PM. Reason : can't wait to get Hopscotch drunk]
9/2/2011 5:10:00 PM
VIP gonna be Thursday again?also....... I wonder if Superchunk was actually invited to play the main stage or if they just finagled their way in via the weight of their label?god damn, i cannot stand that band.[Edited on September 2, 2011 at 5:34 PM. Reason : .]
9/2/2011 5:33:26 PM
^ditto. planning to grab dinner during that set.also, jordan mclamb SURELY is on TEAM NC for this:http://hopscotchmusicfest.com/news/post/hoopscotch-charity-game-announced/
9/2/2011 5:52:05 PM

9/3/2011 1:00:35 AM
Has anybody thought about what they're going to wear to this yet?Should I wear Wayfarers, or are they 'so last year?'Are skinny jeans still in? Does PBR still count? Plaid or Chambray? How far does irony go? Are ICP/Jimmy Buffett/Dave Matthews shirts 'over the top?'
9/3/2011 2:46:55 AM
k
9/3/2011 2:58:20 AM
If you're caught without your wayfarers in city plaza, dont blame me, buddy.
9/3/2011 3:05:56 AM
is superchunk hatred a widespread thing? I was not aware of this
9/3/2011 5:16:57 AM
cargo shorts
9/3/2011 8:06:51 AM
TWW is the only place I've ever encountered Superchunk hatred.
9/3/2011 8:41:09 AM
I, also, have never been able to tolerate Superchunk.
9/3/2011 12:05:52 PM
TWW sheep
9/3/2011 1:21:14 PM
I fail to see how anything that Superchunk has ever done is even slightly better than average
9/3/2011 3:59:17 PM
i really like everything up to foolish, after that it's hit or missthe newest one is just a superchunk record...it's a matter of liking guitar pop or not, and whether you can deal with mac's vocals
9/3/2011 4:10:04 PM
i love guitar pop.but, those vocals.... also, all of their shit sounds so god damn generic and repetitive. (of course, whether it's generic and boring because so many other bands that came after them ripped them off, or whether they only know how to write about 3 types of songs is an entirely different debate)[Edited on September 3, 2011 at 4:20 PM. 9/3/2011 4:17:45 PM
Just had some martinis on the roof in the building right beside Merge, but they certainly weren't 100 proof.
9/4/2011 12:54:04 AM
All I know is I don't really care about seeing a single act playing city plaza this year aside from the Lips and the Dodos. Dreamers of the Ghetto? Lol.I will say this much - they have 155 whole likes on Facebook. [Edited on September 4, 2011 at 1:12 AM. Reason : k]
9/4/2011 1:02:15 AM
^I feel the same way. Flaming Lips and The Dodos are worth it but the rest... meh.
9/4/2011 1:11:38 AM
I'm already chalking this year up as a waste of money. Total waste of money. In the city I love.
9/4/2011 1:22:03 AM
Didn't you say you hated Raleigh? Or is it just Downtown Raleigh?
9/4/2011 2:40:21 AM
Do people really like the Dodos that much? They're okay, but pretty generic. On the other hand, you have GBV, the greatest fucking band of pop genius drunkards ever to teach high school English. ]
9/4/2011 4:25:20 AM
^ have you ever seen the Dodos live?they are absolutely fantastic livejaw-dropping and shit
9/4/2011 12:04:04 PM
meric long is one hell of a guitar player.
9/4/2011 12:17:53 PM
yeh, the dodos are way under-appreciated. wait until you see them live-- seriously, epic performers. you'll be amazed at the amount of sound they get out of two (sometimes three) dudes
9/4/2011 12:21:51 PM
We'll see. Now I expect more noise-per-person than Wye Oak, though.
9/4/2011 12:24:41 PM
I saw the Dodos live and it bored the shit out of me. I don't like their albums either, though, and for whatever it's worth it looked like most everybody else at the show was enjoying it.
9/4/2011 2:07:30 PM
who is your dream headliner for Hopscotch 2012
9/5/2011 6:48:30 PM
What's the likelihood of Hopscotch adding some more club passes?
9/6/2011 1:32:21 AM
Slim to none. Also, I appreciate what people have said about the Dodos live, but realistically I'll probably just skip them. Between being lukewarm on their output and having no desire to see DBT at all, I'll be looking for tweets suggesting DBT are wrapping up before I even head out that night. ]
9/6/2011 3:36:53 AM
first time i saw The DoDos, I was all "meh".when i saw them open for The New Pornographers, I was all them, Flaming Lips and GBV make the opening stage shows worth it. i'm also disappointed that The Light Pines had to withdraw.Superchunk can go fuck themselves. God damnit, those guys suck so fucking much.Drive By Truckers.... meh, never seen them, never bothered to listen to them, but I'll show up and see what it's all about.[Edited on September 6, 2011 at 10:20 AM. My earlier statement was like double sarcasm or something. I'm actually looking forward to this thing very much. Trying not to get caught up on assumptions that could bring me down either way. Even if every band I see sucks, I'll probably still have a great time. However, I hate to harp on this shit; I really do, but: http://www.newraleigh.com/articles/archive/hopscotch-2011-recommendations/Although she wasn't interviewed for recommendations, as being the purpose of the article, Ashley Christensen is mentioned here three fucking times. Do you realize how obnoxious and absurd that is? I want absolutely nothing to do with this Downtown Raleigh Industry of Cool.
9/6/2011 11:01:48 AM
this thread sucks
9/6/2011 11:25:21 AM
^^ To be fair, two of those mentions are of official events that she's sponsoring. If you're going to complain about that, you should complain about every mention of Ed McKay, leader of the Capital Boulevard Industry of Cool.
9/6/2011 12:18:08 PM
Meh.
9/6/2011 12:32:21 PM
They should have just interviewed her too.
9/6/2011 1:32:48 PM
I'm planning to make up for the lackluster lineup by basically being super drunk from Thursday afternoon until Sunday evening, so if I meet any of you people this weekend I apologize in advance.]
9/6/2011 1:46:50 PM
^^ I was HIGHLY surprised they didn't.In other unfortunate news, Mouthus apparently had to cancel. I'm...really mad about this, actually. [Edited on September 6, 2011 at 2:02 PM. Reason : k]
9/6/2011 2:00:07 PM
i hope my photo pass gets me a swag bag eek
9/6/2011 3:56:21 PM
anyone calling this lineup lackluster is a fucking insufferable idiot that deserves to have a miserable time
