^^ yeh, I'm loving the new okkervil river album. my favorite song is 'Your Past Life as a Blast'. It reminds me of 'Haiti' by Arcade Fire

That Pharaohe Monch is spectacular.
4/24/2011 12:18:27 AM
Another new my morning jacket song is out today. Also heard the red hot chili peppers are coming out with a new album in august. Really wish those assholes would stop. Hopefully it'll encourage neil hamburger to make more jokes at their expense.
4/25/2011 2:50:41 PM
New MMJ song is fucking terrible IMO. That's only after one listen, though, and the first track off the new album was awesome.
4/25/2011 4:01:29 PM
worse than everyone thought Highly Suspicious was at first?
4/25/2011 4:33:58 PM

I almost had a panic attack when i first heard the news about rhcp
4/25/2011 5:14:38 PM
just listened to the new MMJ. haha it's terrible. the rest of the guys in this band need to start vetoing some of the shit jim james comes up with now.
4/25/2011 7:34:45 PM
Who said they liked the new Fleet Foxes better than the first one? Who the fuck would say that? That new album is terrible...
4/25/2011 11:35:44 PM
couple of listens into the new snowman album. really liking it. sucks it's supposedly their last.
4/25/2011 11:36:11 PM
Oh, and yeah the first clue to the MMJ sucking was the last album. You can't just keep holding on...
4/25/2011 11:37:16 PM
4/25/2011 11:57:38 PM
^^ and everything that jim james sounded responsible for with monsters of folk. i was cautiously optimistic about this new album after "circuital," but i'm expecting it to be sub par at best after "hangin on to black metal"haven't heard the new fleet foxes yet, but i tired of their first album pretty quickly[Edited on April 25, 2011 at 11:59 PM. 4/25/2011 11:58:43 PM
yeah the first FF album I liked a lot for about two weeks and now can't even listen to it. guy's voice is grating, can't even get through the second one really.
4/26/2011 12:03:51 AM
For the number of times I listened to the first Fleet Foxes album, I felt indebted to the band to go out and buy it on record. The second one, however, I will not even consider purchasing. I guess 'terrible' is harsh, but it's certainly not outstanding to say the least. The only thing that sticks out on that album is the lyric, "snowflake, distinct among snowflakes," and that's because I make fun of it all the time.
4/26/2011 12:29:32 AM
Oh, and for what it is, I like that new Cass McCombs. Very east to listen to. It's...neat.

z rules, it still moves rules, at dawn rules, the tennessee fire rules. evil urges blows.and this:

Just now getting to it, but I'm really enjoying the new Battles. More accessible IMO..quite fun.

4/26/2011 10:07:41 AM
^^^ In fact their last album sucking so bad is pretty relevant considering they've made what, 80 now? Do you think any of the Stones' albums after Tattoo You were worth a damn? If this were Fleet Foxes on a sophomore attempt here, then yeah, I probably wouldn't pay much attention to what their last one sounded like so much...[Edited on April 27, 2011 at 1:02 AM. Reason : l]
4/27/2011 12:40:09 AM
i will suck someone's dick if they link me to new Wild Beasts
4/27/2011 1:09:32 AM
NEW BATTLES?
4/27/2011 1:20:49 AM
^^^ 80 as bad as evil urges is, i think it goes out on a pretty high note with the last 2 tracks.

Is allmusic's rating really a composite? I was under the impression that it's one person's opinion like most other reviews.
4/27/2011 1:29:21 PM
i thought it was (as in, only the star rating), but i could certainly be wrong. But, just looking at the other ratings: Rolling Stone, 4/5Spin, 4.5/5Allmusic, 4/5EW, an "A" ratingAV Club, a "B" ratingPitchfork gave it a 4.7/10 (LOL), and Drowned In Sound only a 6/10.
4/27/2011 1:53:08 PM
It sucked
4/27/2011 1:57:54 PM
Allmusic is always listed with the other sources on an album's wikipedia page, so i'm pretty sure it's just one guy's opinion. Metacritic does a composite. It has a 67 there.
4/27/2011 1:59:49 PM
new Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit album is great
4/27/2011 2:50:54 PM
AllMusic's ratings are not aggregate scores. They're their own scores. But, yeah, what that guy said was dumb as shit.^Haven't listened to it yet, but just finished watching that DBTs documentary The Secret to A Happy Ending. Fucking phenomenal. If you're already a fan, it'll make you an even bigger fan; if you're not a fan, it'll at least give you some respect for them. They really are the real deal. And it'll make you seriously reconsider preconceptions you might have about southern rock. There's this one part where some professor is talking about the Mike Cooley-penned song "Uncle Frank," which is largely about the TVA and how they displaced the homes of many farmers and the ilk by taking more and more land; he points out that he had a graduate student who spent two years working on a thesis about the TVA, and Cooley does a much better job of describing its effects in three and a half minutes.
4/27/2011 6:05:54 PM
just saw DBT a few weeks ago for the first time live in charleston, scit was one of the better live shows i've seen...can't wait to check out the documentary
4/27/2011 6:10:34 PM
i saw them one time, but it was them and the hold steady at lincoln. the hold steady was so good that dbt's couldn't live up to it and they were ultimately pretty disappointing to me. they were co-headliners and they switched off on the tour who went first and who went second, bet i would've enjoyed the truckers a lot more if they were first that show.but i just think those were the wrong circumstances in which to experience a drive-by truckers show. the point is, i can't wait to see them at hopscotch. i've oddly been on a big drive-by truckers kick since they got announced for the bill.
4/27/2011 6:25:48 PM
I wish you altbaguettes would get off my back about My Morning Jacket going downhill...
4/27/2011 6:30:52 PM
i'd never argue that they've gone downhillbecause you can't go down a hill you never went up
