Part of the point of the research camp is to try nutty things. They aren't proposed rule changes. They try a lot of things that are reasonable and could see implementation in the future, but more out there stuff as well.

Um. They're variations on the playing rules that are proposed; they are indeed proposed rules changes. But most of them will never get past this stage. They're products of the GM meetings and the player committee.[Edited on August 10, 2011 at 5:32 PM. Reason : .]

Auto icing/touch icing based on parameters like seperation of defender and forechecker.iirc something like two stride defender lead crossing blue line results in auto icing. Prevents a guy com losing a battle and doing stupid trip plays or drilling a guy. Anything close is still touch. I think there's more than one scenario they want to look at, but its going to be massively up to the linesmen. A two step lead by Tim Gleason on Sami kapanen is not the same as a half step lead by Scott Niedermayer on Cory Stillman.Which will only lead to controversy I'm sure, because say a team is up by one, ices the puck with three seconds left. Touch icing, its game over. Autoicing means the team putting on pressure could tie it. Same sort of thing with five seconds and a puck race, if a linesman calls auto icing and it gives a second or two advantage....but the opposite could happen. Not calling auto icing when they should can hurt the pressuring teamBut its also a get the fuck over it type thing. Maintain possession and its not an issue.I think some hybrid proposals have touch icing in the last 5 minutes of a game and OT... I have yet to hear a hybrid scenario I think removes arbitrary application of the rules.

Verification line I want to see taken differently. 3" yellow line immediately behind the goal line, as opposed to a yellow line with leading edge 3" behind. The Chad larose spinning puck with white behind it my reasoning. They claimed the white was artifact from the net. The yellow removes this.

More like Pathetics!Over/under on Sidney Crosby ever making it back to the NHL? He and Lindros should be best friends.
8/23/2011 7:59:24 AM
Apparently they were an earlier consideration that got scrapped and are now going to become the 3rd.Should've stayed scrapped.
8/23/2011 8:31:21 AM
That would be a disaster to the NHL if he doesn't come back. The NHL needs its superstars and though I hate the team he's on, I respect the hell out of him as he's one helluva player and really a joy to watch when he's not playing your team.

I agree with you guys, the NHL needs players like him.... but he might not ever re-gain health enough to play at any level other than practicing in a red jersey. I think he will be back next season, but he won't be the same. I also wager that he ends up like Lindros or Lafontaine.

Wade Belak found dead. What a horrible summer.

Jesus! wtf!
8/31/2011 6:05:25 PM
Sadly, I don't think anyone is surprised that Savard is done. When the stories came out about him staying home with no tv, no lights, and no music long after concussion #1, the writing was on the wall.

can someone give me an idea of how many of the 43 who died in the plane crash were former or current NHL players?is this like if the Serbian Basketball team all died in a crash, but only 1/4 or 1/5 of them ever had NBA experienceor like if the Dominican Baseball team all died in a crash, where 1/2 or 2/3 of them played in the MLB

I don't have time to go through all the posts right now, but Yahoo! just posted a story today about him being arrested recently on a boat in addition to the DUI on land.
