Lol magic didn't have to chase down a team? That's because he was drafted onto a great team.Kobe didn't have to because he was drafted to a loaded team and when they imploded for three seasons the lakers were able to bring in monster talent around himJordan didn't have to because he was surrounded by greatness also. You do realize that the 91 and 92 threesome of jordan, pippen, and grant ranks higher than james, wade, bosh right? Also the 96 jordan, pippen, rodman does as well And then of course bird, mchale, and parrish in '87This is only the 5th greatest trifecta ever assembled and at this moment they have zero supporting cast and its unlikely it will be stronger than the bulls or celtics were.Of the top 20 trifectas ever assembled in nba history only 6 of them won titles, so think about tha before you hand them the title. If they can get mike miller or ben wallace they jump to 60+ wins in a heartbeat but they'll still need post help t get by howard or bynum

I am really interested in how Lebron and Wade will share the load and how they will react to their personal stats being lower now. It sounds good in theory, but the more I think about it, the more it feels like a video game team. I doubt LBJ and Wade will average more than 24 points a piece, which is still good, just not the 28-30ppg they have been accustomed to over their careers. We can find out if they really are all about "the team" and winning, when their personal accolades start to dwindleand I know I shouldnt react to the trolls, but how many of you who keep saying that Cleveland sucks have actually spent some time in that city? It mightve been a dump back in the 80s, but nowadays its a pretty fun and nice city. Its definitely a lot more fun/nice than Raleigh, in my opinion at least. [Edited on July 9, 2010 at 11:26 AM. Given the immense pressure they will be on to win a championship, I think they will forego the extra 5 to 6 points a game if it means winning. They will be a lot more embarrassed if they don't win a championship than if they don't get 30ppg. Quit being butthurt over Lebron leaving Cleveland and get over it. He didn't want to be in your shitty state with your shitty front office. The big question is who they can get to play with them. Will they take even less money so they have a little more cash to throw at supporting players?? Will better players take less just to play with them and win a championship?? I think we'll see how much planning Pat Riley really did in the next month. I feel like he's definitely had a bigger plan than just "I'll sign these three and just see where it goes from there."

The point is...if hes trying to be the GOAT (which I would assume he is) its not going to happen jumping on board with 2 other superstars.

Oh baby mike miller!!! So much for no other talent. He may not be a top 50 player anymore but he's still an elite shooter and solid rebounder they are looking sick now. Don't sleep on varnado and pittman either

the same people bitching now (that aren't Cavs fans) are the same that criticize NBA players for just being about the money or ego. Ego and Money were sidelined by the drive for championships. If Jordan can be the GOAT while playing with Pippen, James can do the same with Wade.

I don't know why Cleveland fans are so mad. Loyalty? In sports? The dude's contract was up, he's under no moral obligation to rejoin the organization.I don't really like Lebron, but this doesn't make me hate him more

Going to put my long reaction because I'm bored at work this morning.First, not buying the comparison of MJ staying with the Bulls with James not staying. It was a different NBA then, and it takes more than just one great player, a good number 2, and some role guys to win in the current NBA. I hate when people act like the pieces around Jordan were just a bunch of scrubs, he certainly made the players around him better but his supporting cast by the time he was the same age as LeBron was significantly better(this includes the coach). I bet LeBron stays if his supporting cast in Cleveland looked anything like Jordans when they started winning those titles. I think a huge factor on LeBrons decision was the fact that Bosh seemed willing to play with LeBron anywhere, except he wouldn't take a sign and trade to Cleveland(the most lucrative way for him to go) because he didn't want to play in Cleveland that bad. That had to send signals right there that if he stayed they would have trouble attracting players to Cleveland regardless of the money or him being there. I mean Bosh basically said I'd rather make 30 million less dollars than play in Cleveland, and Bosh was pretty set on trying to get the sign and trade to make the most possible. Where was this backlash when Garnett moved on? Shaq? Barkley? Malone? They can all move teams to try to win but James is suppose to rot in Cleveland because on THIS particular instance we are choosing to make loyalty more important than winning? We rip athletes all the time for not caring enough about winning, that it is only about the money, and then we have this instance where a player is saying it is about winning, you have three guys all taking less money and now it is "well where is the loyalty? He should have taken more money and stayed!" Can't have it both ways, I don't agree with the way he went about doing it but I've actually found it refreshing for once to see 3 guys put winning above just making the most money possible. Lastly, If James stays in Cleveland it would have been the exact same situation as Kevin Garnett and the Twolves, and luckily for Garnett he managed to get out while he still had the legs to get a ring. If James signs another contract in Cleveland he would have been 30+ years old, 12+ seasons in the NBA, getting old, body breaking down, and ringless. There is no reason to think that if he stayed in Cleveland they would have been able to put the pieces around him to compete for NBA titles, and again I site the Bosh example as a perfect instance of that. Would have been just B level players and over the hill used-to-be stars and that isn't going to cut it. People in Cleveland are just pissed because a group of athletes basically said I'd play there, or there, or even there, but fuck there.

serious question, what move would you have made if you were in the Cavs front office? to my knowledge they didnt have a lot of money to play with or young players they could trade. I think they did the best with what they had, even if that meant they could only bring in players who were in the declining years of their career (Jamison, Shaq)I guess they shouldve tried to make the Amare deal last season where they traded away JJ Hickson and another player or two

7/9/2010 1:26:36 PM
had to have played with them during their all-star year
7/9/2010 1:29:12 PM
It's pretty obvious that LeBron doesn't want to be "THE MAN", which is why he signed with Miami. He'll average close to a triple-double, hit a few game-winners, assist on more game-winners, and probably play PG for this team for most of the year.I don't get where all the hate comes from. He did what HE wanted to do, what HE thought was his best chance to win championships, and also play with his good friends at the same time. All in beautiful South Beach. What is everyone's beef?
7/9/2010 1:29:48 PM
24 players are all stars every year. Gerald Wallace, Allen Iverson, Chris Kaman and Zach Randolph were all stars this year. Just being an all star doesn't mean you're ready to play second banana on a title contender.
7/9/2010 1:29:54 PM
I would have gone hard after Bosh, Amare, and Boozer. Bosh obviously declined. Don't know if they went big after Amare or not. Boozer is just as valuable as those two. He's a 20 and 10 guy, guaranteed. He won't go on a 40-point string like Amare will...but he's a more consistent rebounder. If not those guys...Dirk and David Lee are probably the next two choices. Dirk might not have been a viable option, but I don't see why David Lee wouldn't have been. The thing is, I only heard of them going after Bosh. Does that mean they didn't go after every one else?? No, but until I hear otherwise, I'm going to assume they didn't. You heard it when other teams talked to every other big free agent on the market...but not from Cleveland (except Bosh of course). And I'd need a list of all the other free agents to see what other options they had. But even if the rest of the pool wasn't that great, there are still trade options. Bottom line...they had some work to do, and they didn't do it.
7/9/2010 1:41:54 PM
http://www.cbssports.com/nba/transactions/freeagents/positionGood comprehensive listAnd I'd argue that they could have been left in a position where they traded for Boozer or Amare and James still left, leaving them maybe 6-8 wins better next season, but still a lottery team, and now on the hook for even more salary. They failed to get a great complementary player for seven years...what would make LeBron think they're all of sudden becoming proactive? Their best bet is to hope they get a top 3 pick in a loaded draft and start the whole process over again. They'll never win anything with the players they have now.
7/9/2010 1:46:33 PM
^^Going after Boozer wasn't an option.. probably not going to happen after what happened when he left Cleveland originally(wasn't exactly great terms).Actually being unable to keep certain players over the past few seasons probably hurt them as much as not being able to bring players in. Certainly having Boozer around the past few years would have been helpful and he was suppose to stay in Cleveland but then jetted.[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 1:47 PM. Reason : .]

no, the main difference is that none of them went chasing rings at the age of 25there is something to be said about the process of getting knocked down, sticking to it, and finally overcoming the greatest challenge. it's not the same when you bolt and show little faith in the organization that made you.[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 1:54 PM.
