Just got back from the Canes/Preds game. They pulled out a siren like we have to pump up the crowd. wtf? i swear, the nashville chants are a bunch of things i might have said in middle school. i've heard jokes about the canes fans being a bunch of rednecks, but it's a whole other level out here."Peeeeeters, Peeeeeeters, Peeeeters, you suck!""He shoots, he scores, you suck!"

9/25/2010 9:50:23 AM
The 13 players assigned to Charlotte are forwards Nicolas Blachard, Stefan Chaput, Nick Dodge, Matt Kennedy, Mike McKenzie, Oskar Osala and Chris Terry; defensemen Brett Bellemore, Casey Borer, Zack Fitzgerald, Michal Jordan and Kyle Lawson; and goaltender Mike Murphy.

how does GA work for a free preseason game? Do you sit wherever? Whattup?
9/26/2010 8:24:44 PM
the same way GA works for anything. you sit wherever.
9/26/2010 8:25:16 PM
is parking free? how early do you need to show up for decent seats if it's a friday afternon game lulz
9/26/2010 8:26:13 PM
I would assume parking is not free, but i don't know. and for when to show up: i'll just say that of the ~20 people that sit around me that I know that have season tickets, none of us are going. odds are there will be less than 2k at that game.

Did we really pluck O'Sullivan out of the street and plan to start him on our top line with Staal and Cole? I know he's been our best player in 3 preseason games but is he really outplaying all the other guys in camp as well? This is quite the story.
9/28/2010 3:17:52 PM
It's not like O'Sullivan doesn't have a history of success. He scored 22 goals and 31 assists with a pretty shitty LA team a few years ago; also he's one of those guys that you really need to put on a scoring line if you're going to have him. He's not a very good defensive player.
9/28/2010 3:48:08 PM
The kid's got mad hands. I think he is perfect with Staal. Cole, not so much. Unless he has a redemption year.
9/28/2010 4:43:24 PM
I think replacing Cole with O'Sullivan is a tremendous idea.
9/28/2010 9:29:32 PM
^ 100% agreed. However, there still seems to be the "Staal only does well when Cole is on his line" mentality that not only persists in our fanbase, but has apparently stuck with the coaching staff too. Also, Jay Harrison:4 games this preseason, league leading -5. Why in the fuck does this front office think this guy is any kind of defensive solution? He's obviously going to win the 6th D spot due to his horrible 1-way contract over a more deserving Carson, Sanguinetti, Rodney, Borer, etc. This contract may be worse than Melichar.
9/28/2010 9:41:01 PM
agreed. Harrison is horrible. I think the only reason he's on the team is because he'll play a GRITTY game. Well, maybe that's because he has to since he has no skill. Guys like him are a dime a dozen, so, any year, but esp. in a rebuilding year, why not replace him with a young guy who can pay more dividends in the long run?
9/28/2010 11:28:29 PM
I'd be happy if they sat him in the pressbox all year long as a healthy scratch and rolled him out against the Rangers, Flyers, etc. to be a punching bag as a 7th d-man for 4-5 minutes a night. Let Boogaard and Shelley beat the fuck out of him a few times a year, otherwise Kostopoulos is a perfectly good 4th line punching bag that will get us a guaranteed 21-22 points a year and kill penalties.]
9/28/2010 11:35:30 PM
Yeah, we let Whitney and Cullen go so that we could try out guys like Tlusty, Boychuck, Bowman, Skinner, Nash, Matsumoto, etc., but we decided to hold onto Harrison and let guys like Borer, Sanguinetti, Carson, etc. get as much of a shot as they normally would. I do want to see what the top line ends up being. A week ago I thought it'd be Staal, Jussi, Ruutu, but with O'Sullivan having potential and a type of game that would compliment Staal I wonder if we bump Jussi or Ruutu down to the 2nd line to spread out the scoring.
9/28/2010 11:48:56 PM
Jokinen appears set to start the season centering the 3rd line.
9/28/2010 11:53:19 PM
which is horseshit. he needs top 6 minutes, and damn sure deserves them since he was the leading scorer on the team last year
9/29/2010 12:01:40 AM
We're still 9 games of regular season away from knowing whether Skinner is here to stay or heading back to Kitchener. Hopefully he gets that 9 games or less on a scoring line and not with the likes of Dwyer and TKO. He's penciled in for the time being with Jokinen and LaRose, which could or could not be (I lean towards not) be a true indicator of his abilities right now.The worst case is we keep him and Mo runs him on a shit line or puts him in the box because he isn't scoring, but I don't think it will get to that. Sending him back to Kitchener for another year and playing for a Memorial Cup and likely running the Canada junior team at the WJC's isn't exactly going to hinder his development. My thoughts at the moment are that he's going to eventually get sent back up to Kitchener, because we've got Boychuk, Bowman, Dalpe, etc. that can fill his role. There's no need to rush an 18 year old kid in what amounts to a throw away year, at least as long as Harrison is considered a legitimate bottom pair d-man to be paired with McBain (according to the current depth chart). So much for any Calder aspirations McBain, good luck breaking -20.]
9/29/2010 12:01:54 AM
Zach Boychuk was cut to Charlotte today. Seems our roster for Europe is set with 24 or 25 players (you can carry more for Europe) depending on if Samsonov can make the trip. Does not look like he will, so given the current practice lines this could be our opening day lineup:Patrick O'Sullivan - Eric Staal - Erik ColeDrayson Bowman - Brandon Sutter - Tuomo RuutuJeff Skinner - Jussi Jokinen - Chad LaRoseTom Kostopoulos - Pat Dwyer - Jiri TlustyEXTRA: Zac DalpeJoni Pitkanen - Joe CorvoJamie McBain - Tim GleasonAnton Babchuk - Jay HarrisonEXTRAS: Brett Carson, Bobby SangunettiCam WardJustin PetersEXTRA: Justin PoggeI love it, with the exception of course of Jay Harrison.
9/29/2010 5:45:08 PM
I wonder what they'll end up doing with Boychuck. He was one of the ones I thought would make the team, but he didn't look good at all during the pre-season. I like the lines though - good mix of veterans and youth. I know Harrison brings some "grit" and "toughness" like JR likes to say, but I'd much rather see Borer, Sanguinetti or Carson there, especially since a Babchuck/Harrison line has slowness and turn-overs written all over it.
9/29/2010 6:22:35 PM
I'm not sold on Sanguinetti, but Carson is ready to go.
9/29/2010 6:25:28 PM
yeah i would rather see jokinen get top 6 minutes, but i don't know if we have any better options for the third line center spot. I have a feeling that if one of the kids can prove themselves or Patty O'Sullivan keeps it up, Jokinen will get moved back to Staal's line.at least I hope so. 30 goals is nothing to scoff at. At least he'll get plenty of PP time.
9/29/2010 6:27:29 PM
no way i'm gonna win it but if you have a cool story tweet with #canessiren about why you should do the siren tomorrow afternoon[Edited on September 30, 2010 at 12:05 PM. Reason : Gleason & Sutter named alternate captains]
