Ooooh that's nice.
6/20/2012 12:55:46 PM
No upgrade path from 7 to 8. We get 7.8 instead, which at least has all the features I actually care about (read: resizing tiles)
6/20/2012 1:40:44 PM
oh hey, they finally got rid of that stupid empty space on the right side
6/20/2012 2:51:11 PM
well, this was an exciting week for MS
6/20/2012 3:09:30 PM
wtb a decent device with physical keyboard

2004 called.

Also Full multitasking, Native development (C/C++ so the big game engines work)Using the Windows 8 RT kernelDesktop IE10 w/ full HTML5Nokia Maps baked in with Turn by turn directions (in all devices)HD display support (up to 1280x768)

you know, for as much as Apple is all like "300 new features" every time they iterate the iphone, the WP8 announcement seems kinda underwhelming. but then when i think about it, i really don't feel like i'm missing out on anything the iphone offers.[Edited on June 21, 2012 at 12:24 PM. I don't get the idea that people have that all apps made after wp8 comes out won't work on current hardware. If wp7 apps work fine on wp8 wouldn't App devs just keep on making wp7 apps unless the actually need the new features?
6/21/2012 11:46:05 PM
^that's what I'm thinking. people just being paranoid I suppose.
6/22/2012 11:11:03 AM
It's because instead of developing a Windows Phone 7 app, people are going to develop Metro apps for Win8 and then just port them easily to Windows Phone 8.That leaves those of us on team WP7 a little out in the cold.I'd really like to see MS "do right" by those of us who actually got Lumia 900 and Titan 2s. I still love my phone, but having a big marketing push in April only to EOL the platform in June is kind of bullshit.
6/22/2012 10:26:36 PM
yup, the Lumia folks are getting shafted big time
6/22/2012 10:41:48 PM
wp7(8) needs a damn etrade app
6/23/2012 3:28:53 AM
^Amen to that ^^I just bought a Lumia 900 off craigslist yesterday for mega cheap. Switching from Sprint to StraightTalk with it. Just the service switch will pay for the cost of the phone by the time Win8 phones hit the market. For <$250, the Lumia 900 is a pretty cool phone. It's killing me looking for an iPhone 4 for the fiance and the stupid prices (people asking NEW prices for their 2 year old scratched up phones)
6/23/2012 8:02:50 PM
I honestly figure at some point XDA is going to find some way to get WP8 on a Lumia 900.[Edited on June 24, 2012 at 12:10 PM. Reason : Speaking of which, this reminds me I need to dev unlock my phone.]
6/24/2012 12:08:53 PM
I can tell you that is very unlikely. The reason for the compat break is hardware, not software.WP7 is a CE kernel, WP8 is the WinRT kernel. The hardware needed to run the latter well is a little higher, and the underlying hardware platform is different. A port to WP7 would require someone to write platform hardware drivers, which isn't impossible, but it hasn't ever been done to my knowledge in windows (mobile or otherwise) by a third party without access to development hardware.
6/24/2012 1:47:28 PM
seems weird to futureproof it up to 64 cores, but only 720p display

So when can I boot Xbox720 on my windows phone 8
9/5/2012 7:29:04 PM
I take a lot of pictures with my phone. I'm gonna wait and see about the improvements to the new iphone's camera, but if it doesn't come close to the Nokia 920, I'm gonna jump to Nokia / WP8.
9/5/2012 10:52:40 PM
maybe they'll call it the jPhone
9/6/2012 8:32:32 AM
have they said anything about the screen rez/quality?
9/6/2012 10:17:06 AM
9/6/2012 10:27:13 AM
how many other phones will WP8 be on? because i was under the impression that nokia is in a sad state of affairs and i'm not sure what WP8 offers that is any better than iphone/android devices...and as such, i see them as relatively irrelevant
9/6/2012 10:29:37 AM
samsung is making a galaxy s3 clone that runs WP8[Edited on September 6, 2012 at 10:47 AM. Reason : http://www.gsmarena.com/here_are_the_models_and_prices_of_samsungs_wp8_phones-news-4676.php]

Noen, so how did the switch to Straight Talk worked out for you? Kind of thinking about the same thing. It would save me like $1,200 per year, more than enough to cover a couple of new smartphones every two years if i feel the need to upgrade. The onyl downside I see so far is losing the picture MMS (i dont really want to JB)/thread highjack

Hey, are ANY of these Sprint? If, not I will completely abandon MS products completely, even right down to the next Xbox. I should NOT have to switch carriers to get the phone I want. These http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/cmpn/windowsphone-8-phones.aspx#NokiaLumia820 or the Samsung above?[Edited on September 6, 2012 at 1:54 PM. LTE and WCDMA are radio technologies that Sprint's network uses. whether Sprint decides to carry the phones is another issue.
9/6/2012 1:57:09 PM
OK. goddammit I am tirrd of this shit, and they don't even make the main stream apps for WM that I want, only Andriod an iOS get them. WTF is MS doing?
9/6/2012 1:59:13 PM
i don't think it's microsoft's fault...it's that developers don't want to waste their time developing apps for a platform that has so little market shareor so that was my understanding
9/6/2012 2:02:43 PM
It more of MS fault. The made a OS that was gonna be non-backwards compatible, ie., WM7 apps will not work with WM8, which is fucking retarded. Then they send out an email saying if you are a developer there is a potential to make 80% off of your apps, instead of the standard 70% like this will encourage developers to create apps.Basically, MS made a small market by doing this.[Edited on September 6, 2012 at 2:27 PM. Thanks! That's reassuring. I assume the coverage is exactly same as AT&T (since Straight Talk uses At&T network)? Data speed OK?
9/6/2012 9:45:56 PM
You all seem fairly up to date with all this, does anyone know if Evernote will be on WP8?I see they have a 7.5 app, have they confirmed for 8? We use it a lot, so that's kind of a deal breaker for me. I have to put in my purchase request this month for a new phone, but enough people were curious about Lumia pones so the told us we could request to defer till nov. Trying to decide what to do, anyone know?If not its iPhone5 for me, and it seems pretty boring
10/2/2012 7:43:01 PM
I'd be beyond shocked if there were no Evernote for WP8.
10/2/2012 7:52:08 PM
All wp7 apps will work on wp8I'm sure they will upgrade to wp8 eventually, but you won't miss out on any of your apps if it doesn't happen immediately. To be honest, Those new HTCs look nicer to me than the Nokia. The 920 is just a little too bulky for me.[Edited on October 2, 2012 at 7:56 PM. Reason : ]
