2 games? I think lapierre should have gotten about 8 for his cheapshot and Ovie could have gotten 4 for his. Both dirty and dangerous plays.
3/15/2010 5:30:46 PM
well, guess we won't be seeing Ovie play on Thursday
3/15/2010 5:32:03 PM
i can actually see how caps fans would be annoyed considering this hit by craig adams on ovechkin (which i forgot) from a few weeks agovery similar in that they weren't big hits but both were a shove in the back towards the boards, adams' hit looks like it could have messed ovie up pretty bad, but he wasn't even given a boarding penaltyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkQKBGAQExQ
3/15/2010 5:33:35 PM
For anyone who didn't see Grapes talk about the Cooke/Savard incident, he went absolutely bonkers:Probably looks like I disagree here since I said it was clean by the book, but I agree that it's a cheap shot and things like this wouldn't happen nearly as often in the time of Semenko and Probert, or today if the instigator was gone and there were patrolmen on the bench. ]
3/15/2010 5:47:10 PM
This sums it up pretty well: http://dumpnchase.com/And Ovie gets suspended? lol[Edited on March 15, 2010 at 7:53 PM. Reason : ]
3/15/2010 7:50:58 PM
Ovie has a history of borderline dirty play. The Wild Man of Borneo does not. According to Colin Campbell (though we know what that's worth), the suspension in this case is based on the "repeat offender" model.Ovie is the only player in the league with two game misconducts this season, let alone three. ]
3/15/2010 7:56:24 PM
And.. the third one was straight-up bullshit, and he still gets suspended - even after he gets beat up by dirty plays.
3/15/2010 8:53:20 PM
dude, this last one might have been questionable, but please realize that Ovechkin throws some dirty hitshes going to ruin his own career soon enough if he keeps this shit up
3/15/2010 8:58:53 PM
i hate how terpball is
3/15/2010 9:19:54 PM
I'm not too upset about Ovechkin taking this suspension. It's not going to effect the Caps playoff picture, and if anything allows Ovie to take a couple days off. However, I really have no respect for the NHL's disciplinary actions now... The suspensions just don't fucking make sense.I really think that they just threw Ovechkin, Cooke, Downie and Lapierres name in a hat and picked out 2 random ones and issued suspensions.[Edited on March 15, 2010 at 11:48 PM. The NHL had no choice but to suspend Ovechkin, he is one of their biggest stars and the Game Misconduct was a big story on Sportscenter, CBS Sports, SI all the major outlets that don't focus primarily on hockey news. So this story was made bigger than others were. Plus with Ovechkin's penchant for questionable hits it was a no brainer. If he wasn't suspended the NHL runs the risk of somebody on another team taking a Bertuzzi like run at him and injure him for a long period of time.It won't keep Washington from getting the top seed in the East so nothing to really worry about.Colin Campbell needs to show some consistency though if a hit warrants a suspension the player should be suspended.
3/16/2010 12:00:31 AM
Ovechkin isn't going to make it halfway through his contract if he keeps up this style of play.
3/16/2010 12:14:08 AM
yeah, im not trying to hate on ovibut lets say he keeps throwing out his knee on hits like he does multiple times during the season....eventually that's going to fuck him up bad, and he's too talented to be so stupid. i understand its cool to be the renegade that doesn't give a fuck, but he needs to cut this shit out.
3/16/2010 12:18:40 AM
I say let Ovi take runs at Cooke on the 24th. Cooke either loses a knee or Ovi loses his head.
3/16/2010 12:39:46 AM
^ I would pay to see that.
3/16/2010 8:59:09 PM
Dallas has been killing giants lately.
3/16/2010 11:01:44 PM
Tonight was just regular late season Nabokov.
3/17/2010 4:22:21 AM
I see.
3/17/2010 12:29:41 PM
3/17/2010 9:32:27 PM
If there is any justice in this world, tonight Crosby gets his.
3/18/2010 3:22:37 PM
Seabrook got hit STUPID last night.
3/18/2010 3:26:09 PM
And in the same game, Brent Sopel does his best impression of a Hollywood style dive away from an exploding bomb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6MOy-VfsiI
3/18/2010 3:39:43 PM
there's not really a way for the pens-bruins to live up to the hype tonight unless someone gets savarded worse than savardmy guess is cooke spends the game running other players and being run until he gets tossed after a fight, and lucic picks a fight with a player who's at least 6" shorter than he isa fight off the opening faceoff would certainly be interesting though[Edited on March 18, 2010 at 3:57 PM. Good night for hockey.
3/18/2010 5:12:50 PM
Seabrook throws a blindside hit to the head of Perry, no suspensionWisniewski throws a hit from the front (admittedly a charge) in retaliation, eight gamesCOLIN CAMPBELL IS A GENIUS
3/18/2010 5:54:22 PM
he's actually attending the pens-bruins tonightnot sure why, i guess to entertain the crowd by picking numbers out of the suspension lottery hopper
3/18/2010 6:17:05 PM
Wisniewski clearly had one thing on his mind: injure Seabrook. Wisniewski ran from the blueline to below the goal line to hit a guy without the puck. He's lucky he got off with 8 games. Could easily been 10 to 15.
3/18/2010 6:20:52 PM
I don't disagree, but why wasn't Seabrook suspended? It's a clear board and a blindside headshot (not that those meaning anything to ol' Colie).
3/18/2010 6:30:56 PM
^i'm not sold on the Perry hit being a head shot (looked more like shoulder to shoulder/back). Watch this vid from the ice level angle specifically: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp7B81Kx66o
3/18/2010 6:44:58 PM
Hadn't seen that angle. It does look like it's in the back and not the head...but it's still a blatant uncalled board.
3/18/2010 6:47:19 PM
Thornton & Cooke on their first shift, Cooke took a few right in the nose.Round 1 to Boston.
3/18/2010 7:24:25 PM
bruins won two fights, scored zero goalsdoes not help them in the standings
3/18/2010 9:42:04 PM
I've always been a big Adam Deadmarsh fan so stumbling across this was awesome. http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=35&id=63104
3/20/2010 1:58:23 AM
Caps had a near own goal tonight.
3/20/2010 8:14:00 PM
Before you ask... I have no idea.
3/20/2010 9:44:46 PM
One of the top items on my bucket list is to ride Zamboni. I would also like to ride a member of the Storm Squad.
3/20/2010 9:46:01 PM
Richard Petty riding the Zamboni was about the only way to get people to come watch hockey in Greensboro.Driving a Zamboni is fun, but not so much when you slam into the boards sideways. A lesson that I learned from the experience? Stiff-arming the boards on a sliding Zamboni won't slow down the impact
3/20/2010 10:02:00 PM
Going from driving the rather aged Zam at the Cary Ice House to the newish Olympia (with an automatic transmission ) in Garner was quite a marvelous experience.
3/20/2010 11:04:06 PM
^Did you ever drive Cary's old black Zam that sat outside? We had to borrow it in Greensboro several times when ours broke. That thing sucked to drive and made the rink smell terrible, but damn if it didn't cut the ice like a champion.
3/20/2010 11:10:11 PM
The black zam is the only one they had back when I was there. (wow, I'm old) Ask Chuck sometime about the Olympia in Garner though. I am pretty sure he had a chance to drive it before he transitioned over to G-boro.
3/21/2010 2:38:23 PM
lol, Nabokov.
3/21/2010 8:50:57 PM
Phoenix Coyotes. Tied for 1st in the West.
3/22/2010 2:15:23 AM
Sharks are pulling a Flames.
3/22/2010 2:29:25 AM
Nabokov might be the least clutch of the quality goaltenders in the league, and that's saying a lot with Turco and Miller around.
3/22/2010 3:23:49 AM
big win tonight red wings

Clutch.
3/24/2010 9:54:25 PM
I don't know if Mike Knuble's goal should have been allowed, but I'm rationalizing it by calling it the ultimate Crosby goal.
