^^ terminator 2’s story was not that amazing. It was fairly mediocre.Terminator 2’s directing was what set it apart, not really its story.

^^ regardless, T2 showed that Cameron could make a movie that had everything. Avatar only demonstrated he could make a technically great movie.

Just saw it @ IMAX last night... Amazing!Screw the story. If I want a good story I'll go read a book. The graphics were off the hizzle fo' shizzle. Definately worth every penny.
1/6/2010 10:53:13 AM
to me there were three aspect, the graphics, the story, and the world of pandorahe did well with the graphics and creating a seemingly complete new world of that we spent a good amount of time exploring like it was a national geographic specialso i think that made up a lot for the lack of an original story
1/6/2010 11:14:19 AM
The story was weak, but the graphics were great. I give it a B+

The problem with the soundtrack was that I liked it better in Troy.
1/7/2010 11:33:40 AM
How did Sam Worthington make his legs so skinny? There were one or two shots where I thought HOLY SHIT - how did he atrophy that much?
1/7/2010 12:45:47 PM
^yeah i was wondering the same, i really hope he didnt actually do that to himself
1/7/2010 12:48:00 PM
saw it at IMAX... story was pretty weak, allegories to imperialism and environmentalism were way too heavy-handed, but the graphics and the way they utilized the 3D technology were pretty amazing so i had a good time
1/7/2010 12:51:38 PM
^^^CGI.
1/7/2010 1:02:26 PM
probably the same way that Lt. Dan didn't have any legs
1/8/2010 9:24:53 AM
rumor is that Lt. Dan got new legs
1/8/2010 5:03:56 PM
people keep saying the actual story is awful but i actually enjoyed it! & i can't wait to see it again! hopefully at the imax
1/8/2010 9:50:42 PM
^Because there was a love story with deep emotional connotations?
1/8/2010 11:03:21 PM
Wes Studi was the voice of the chief dude.Weird.

Saw it tonight. Finally I can click on this thread.Really amazing presentation - clearly a lot of work was put into this alien world. Story was nothing new or interesting, but it still drew me in. I wasn't bored at any point. Other than the "Fight terror with terror" line, this movie was almost completely devoid of any political references to the real world. There was a comment about an ambiguous conflict in Venezuela, and near the end there was a vague mention of Earth losing its "green". Its a stretch to say this movie is "preachy".The biggest flaw for me was the lack of motivation for the main bad guy and the pilot chick. There was no explanation for his obsession with winning, and the girl's sudden 180 was similarly unreasoned.[Edited on January 8, 2010 at 11:32 PM. Reason : .]

I thought about that. I think that every country on earth that they mentioned as a site of future war was also a country where Avatar would probably be banned by the government anyway, or at least it wouldn't make much money so they didn't care if people got pissed about it."They killed their mother" wasn't a tad preachy?[Edited on January 8, 2010 at 11:27 PM. I don't remember that line. Even so, those comments didn't have any significance to the actual story. Most films have at least this much preaching. If the story had an actual connection to the situation on Earth, for example if unobtainium had something to do with restoring earth's ecosystem; then I would have thought it was preachy.

I took her motivation as coming from someone that had worked with the Avatar group for a long period of time. Basically she was involved with that specific group that she grew to have sympathy first for her comrades and then, by extension, the Na'vi.

I saw public enemies last night. Badass general in avatar is the guy that caps Dillinger in the dome. That makes two movies now that I've been rooting for that guy in.
1/9/2010 10:20:58 AM
^Thanks for that you fucking prick. I havent seen PE yet.Fuck people, if you going to post a spoiler in a movie thread about another movie fucking label the shit as a spoiler.Jesus Christ.
1/9/2010 10:29:04 AM
Yes, Dillinger dies, the Titanic sinks, and Pearl Harbor is bombed.
1/9/2010 10:37:16 AM
Well I know he dies, but I wasnt sure by who or how.Its not a MAJOR spoilerBut I would at least like to have watched it not knowing that information.

soooo good!I loved when they showed Pandora at night
1/9/2010 3:44:52 PM
Well there is a difference in posting something about a movie that has been out for years, and one that just came out.
1/9/2010 3:49:55 PM
It has been out since last year.Either way I AM sorry if my post ruined part of that movie for you. I wouldn't worry though; it isn't a very good movie and when the shot does happen you're just thankful its over.
1/9/2010 4:23:58 PM
my thoughts were fairly in line with Mr. Joshua's first post on this page..additional thought was it was okay... maybe a 7/10 for me. graphics were awesome and the execution could have been worse, but the commentary and overall  that was a good bit of the dialogue just hurt a little bit.
1/11/2010 12:08:23 AM
I saw it, the only thing that disappointed me was that J.P. never got his robot legs. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0456554/

Avatar has reached $1,424 million worldwide gross, making it the 2nd highest-grossing film ever.If it can make another $400 mil, it will beat Titanic. MLK Day may tell.
1/15/2010 3:19:09 PM
In reference to the question about his legs - it was not CGI. They made the legs using molds from someone who really couldnt walk, his legs were tucked underneath him.
1/16/2010 1:55:41 PM
bullshit. it was cgi.
1/16/2010 2:11:37 PM
the legs were real crippled legs. the rest of him was CGI.
1/16/2010 2:23:26 PM
the movie is real, we however were cgi
1/16/2010 3:13:04 PM
I was going to get some lunch today and on my way noticed that the theater I saw Avatar at was no longer there.Apparently it was CGI too.Damnedest thing too, it looked SO real.
1/16/2010 3:27:56 PM
^^^^ Naw - I just read an article in EW about it yesterday. James Cameron said the legs were not CGI.
