Jade Garden ftw
4/6/2010 10:47:57 PM
Beansprout is way better than Shanghai Express or Jade Garden.
4/6/2010 10:48:30 PM
4/6/2010 10:48:59 PM
^^at least when talking about sweet & sour chicken, I disagree. Beansprout isn't that great either. Their fried rice isn't anything special, either.[Edited on April 6, 2010 at 10:50 PM. Reason : fried rice]
4/6/2010 10:49:44 PM
drive to china garden in garner, its more than worth it.
4/6/2010 10:50:13 PM
Driving to Garner is almost never worth it.
4/6/2010 11:02:53 PM
The first time I kissed my now-wife was right in front of the bar in Jackpot. I hope that place never closes. I have a feeling I'm gonna be pretty sad 3 weeks from now.On an unrelated note, the last time I went there I spent like $120. TAKE THAT, CREDIT CRUNCH!!
4/7/2010 12:30:28 AM
this combined with the rockford news is like the close of the when-i-lived-there chapter of raleigh
4/7/2010 12:53:47 AM
Seriously. Except I still live here.
4/7/2010 12:54:24 AM
If there was ever a night to be here, it would be tonight
4/7/2010 1:21:57 AM
why so?
4/7/2010 1:22:44 AM
fuck
4/7/2010 1:37:01 AM
^^Probably because of the Rockford closing, everyone was out to mourn.
4/7/2010 1:46:04 AM
so the last night already occurred?? I was going to make a special trip back just to go one more time.
4/7/2010 2:38:19 AM
4/7/2010 2:45:20 AM
^ i guess i don't see why not, but i don't know what space that could possibly beand if it's close to new kings it might be too similaranyway, the last night will be sometime in the next two weekswe're not exactly sure when
4/7/2010 3:46:48 AM
raleigh needs dives, and i'll be damned if i'm going to drive my ass all the way out to the goatif i hit it big one day, i'm gonna buy father & son, get rid of about 2/3 of the junk, and open a bar among the rest of the bygone flotsam[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 9:42 AM. Reason : and then end up the villain when it collapses on itself, crushing all raleigh's restaurant workers]
4/7/2010 9:39:26 AM
if i hit it big, imma rebuild a state-of the art version of Riddick Stadium and open a bar in thati'm also gonna install a mid 90s Hillsborough Street Rathskeller somewhere in there[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 9:45 AM. Reason : +]
4/7/2010 9:44:41 AM
I've spent 10x as much time at Jackpot than any other place in Raleigh. It really sucks to see it go. That place has character.
4/7/2010 9:48:55 AM
cant wait.
4/7/2010 10:35:24 AM
heard in another thread that this place is shutting down...sadly i have never been there
4/7/2010 10:36:24 AM
4/7/2010 10:46:59 AM
i forgot about slim's. berkeley is okay too depending on what's going on there on a given night.
4/7/2010 10:48:06 AM
from what i understand, JP has been floating RF for quite a whilethe sale of the building that JP is in went through some time ago, so it was just a matter of time, and as JP goes, so goes RFand yes, that whole jackpot/ihop block plus the old factory/warehouse on the next block are slated to become some sort of condo/mixed-use projecti hope it happens, too, because the only thing worse than seeing a cool place torn down for some cookie cutter housing is for a cool place to be closed under the pretense of replacing it and then it doesn't happen (kings, hillsborough st. music, etc.)
4/7/2010 2:05:03 PM
so ihop is going away, too?i care more about that.
4/7/2010 2:07:15 PM
yeah, i didn't know about ihop and sucks for tww members who work at JP, and even for the people who enjoy it. do the dj's in here dj anywhere else?
4/7/2010 2:08:31 PM
holy fuck, JP is closing for real???? nooooooooooooo no no no no no
4/7/2010 2:28:18 PM
So I just read the last 3 pages of this thread, and have read the Rockford thread. And nowhere does it say WHY these places are closing. Can anyone shed some light on that, or at the least a link?
4/7/2010 2:34:48 PM
obamacare did it
4/7/2010 2:35:35 PM
^see, I said shit like this would happen but nobody wanted to listen to ole TKE-Teg...
4/7/2010 2:40:54 PM
the fucked up thing is that my dad is a project manager for Crosland, the developer purportedly building on the sitethis feels like i'm in some adam sandler movie where i have to bring down my dad's big bad company in order to save everyone's favorite neighborhood bar
4/7/2010 2:45:09 PM
i don't think tschudi DJ's anywhere else, but he's got a real jobhopefully i'll have a gig at new kingsi am definitely DJing the green frame exhibit opening at the raleigh city museum on friday
4/7/2010 3:10:52 PM
^^ YOU CAN DO IT!!!
4/7/2010 3:12:30 PM
^^ I was just there yesterday and didn't notice any flyers for thatwhat's going on?[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 3:13 PM. Reason : ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^]
4/7/2010 3:13:04 PM
i am djing a wedding in a few weeks lolbeen told i'd probably have a spot at Kings but i guess we'll seei only started DJing a year ago though so i'm still learning. hopefully will pick up a few gigs before Kings opens.still sucks though. that's $400 dollars a month out of my pocket, and it's even more for Brian and the bartenders[Edited on April 7, 2010 at 3:20 PM. Reason : ,]
4/7/2010 3:19:55 PM
i've got a wedding next weekend, tooshould be interesting
4/7/2010 3:57:47 PM
4/7/2010 4:10:39 PM
^^Please to not play chxn dance
4/7/2010 4:27:12 PM
i won'ta guy in my band is getting marriedand asked me "specifically because you won't be lame"
4/7/2010 4:29:06 PM
kings, like kings barcade?
4/7/2010 4:29:16 PM
well good luck vinylbandit and tschudi. i know i rag on JP in this thread a lot, but it's all in good fun.
4/7/2010 4:29:33 PM
yesthe new kings barcade is going into the space formerly occupied by alibi/martin st. pizza/raleigh music hall
4/7/2010 4:30:01 PM
i went there a couple times my freshman year and loved it. hopefully it'll be awesome!
4/7/2010 4:34:13 PM
I think the real reason that they're shutting it down is that the building needed cigarette smoke to stay alive, and now that it has none it's wasting away.
4/7/2010 4:38:55 PM
^Quite possible^^^ Awesome, I'll be checking that out when it opens then
4/7/2010 4:43:09 PM
but what about IHOP, guys????that place surely did enough business in that location to support itself
4/7/2010 4:51:27 PM
4/7/2010 4:53:10 PM
^^ they're knocking it all down to build condosit has nothing to do with profitabilityjackpot is pretty damn profitable from what i understand
4/7/2010 4:55:57 PM
not profitable enough, apparently.at least not profitable enough to support two businesses.
4/7/2010 4:57:21 PM
as i said, nothing to do with profitabilitya developer from charlotte has finally acquired all of the property on that block and the jackpot lease is running outso he's terminating the lease to begin work on a mixed used project that will see the destruction of the blalock plant, the old bakery, the jackpot, and the ihop
